Twitch streaming coming to Xbox One March 11

Another update from MS on this:

UPDATE: More details from Microsoft:

Unlike the PS4 Twitch app, which was put together by Sony, the Xbox One app was created by Twitch.

To start streaming with Kinect, you’ll say “Xbox, broadcast. (You can also use button commands).

To stop streaming, you can say “Stop broadcast” or “Xbox, stop broadcast.

You can send ask to join a game that’s being broadcast if it’s coming from an Xbox One and you’re on an Xbox One.

You can view streams from any system. In a press release this morning, Microsoft mentioned the following examples as options: “Titanfall (Xbox One), Minecraft (Xbox 360), Star Craft II (PC), Uncharted (PS4) — watch all the games you want to watch on Xbox One.”

Arrives March 11th

Oh, you can join an xbox one game that's being broadcast? Missed that one.

What's so special about viewing streams from other systems, such as PS4, PC, Xbox 360 etc? Isn't that how it is on the PS4 app, or is it somehow restricted to only PS4 broadcasts, which I don't think makes sense.

Also, unlike the PS4 Twitch app, the Xbox One app will allow users to broadcast to and view from any device — including, the PS4.

Is this part here true?

Harmless PR fluff but I don't see any inaccuracies; the integration does seem more fleshed out. Kudos on delivering it much faster than any of resident leakers' claims.

What about this? This is pretty inaccurate, right? That is not unique in any way.

"This will open up the social aspect of Xbox One in a new way," he added. "The community of Twitch is huge, and this allows us to type into that, and frankly do something that's never been done before on consoles. You'll be able to broadcast to any device and consume anyone's broadcast from any device. It's a console experience unique to the Xbox One."

EDIT: Oh I get it, you can watch ANY Twitch stream on Xbox One, not just Xbox One streams. I read it as you could watch any Xbox One stream from any device, which works on the other system as well (excluding other consoles, which Xbox One does).

That was an epic day on GAF. I miss those times, hopefully E3 brings megatons.

Pretty cool how they're placing such a high priority on getting all this stuff ready in time for Titanfall's launch. Literally rolling out the red carpet.

Sounds like they really thought this thing out, too. Although, I'm a bit of a twitch streaming rookie, so I may highlight things that aren't much of a big deal at all.

- Follow whoever is broadcasting by viewing their gamer card.

- Setup notifications for when one of your favorite broadcaster's are on.

- your twitch activity is updated in the friends app and activity feed of your followers.

- broadcasters can invite friends into a private party from the chat stream, allowing them to voice chat outside of the broadcast. (good they thought of this, because sometimes you might want to have a private chat with a friend without everyone else hearing what you're saying.)

- Kinect also allows you to easily include your picture-in-picture video feed and audio commentary along with the game broadcast (good - don't always want to be broadcasting my face over an online video stream.)

- Twitch chat experience, offering 10 lines in the chat stream and allowing viewers to choose their name color and post emoticons.

I think that's everything. One of the things I've always liked most about this system is how the different parts are so nicely setup to work together, some really nice integration, especially with Kinect, and this just makes that whole thing even better.

I would like to think it doesn't impact performance of the game too much, if at all, or else that would be a bit disappointing. That said, don't games already run pretty solidly despite all the other things you can do in addition to gaming, such as with snap, or even having the game minimized on the home screen?
Agree. Really well done. Considering how much I use Twitch, I am well pleased indeed.

Is this part here true?

There is no PS4 Twitch app. That's apparently coming sometime in the Spring.

Other stuff not being true is not being able to join matches through broadcasts via PS4, and not being able to livestream in fullscreen.

I don't think MS quite knows what the PS4 streaming service can do. :p

Surprised they're going to let people watch PS4 streams from the app. Free advertising for Sony.

Just common sense. I mean, why would you prevent people from doing so? They already have an Xbox One, so who cares if they also see something so awesome on the PS4 that they decide they want a PS4 also? I think this is a good thing, to not limit what people are able to see and access, as if we couldn't find it via other means if we really wanted to. The omission would be seen as silly and bordering on insulting, at least imo.

Thanks for this. You confused me there for a sec, because I'm like "No, you're wrong, the PS4 already has twitch, and has had it since launch," but then I realized that you meant it's had twitch streaming since launch, but not a twitch viewer app.

From Microsoft's Xbox Wire release, it seems they were definitely wrong about the full screen livestream capability of the PS4, with this line here. Or are they lumping the on-screen viewer indicator in with the full screen view and saying that only the Xbox One's version of twitch does those two things together? If the PS4 doesn't have the on-screen viewer indicator to keep an eye on how popular your broadcast is, I guess I can see how they could get away with this line, but it's a no doubt tricky, and people would just assume that there's no full-screen view on the ps4 at all. So they're just being clever with the PR lol.

Unlike other Twitch console experiences, you can also broadcast a full-screen view of the game you're playing or use an on-screen viewer indicator to keep an eye on how popular your live broadcast is

However, I don't see where they suggested that only the Xbox One allows gamers to join a match through a broadcaster's stream. Maybe they said this to some of the news sites instead? This is all I get from their news release on xbox wire.

Only with Twitch on Xbox One can you broadcast and watch your favorite games live by simply saying “Xbox, Broadcast.” Once you’re done broadcasting, you can use Twitch to watch the games you love, chat with the players you follow, or even join a broadcaster’s game.

Here it seems like they were just referring to the phrase "Xbox, Broadcast," which would of course only ever be done on an xbox console. But the part about joining a broadcaster's game is something put in an entirely different sentence, and not suggested as something only xbox can do. Maybe the gaming sites interpreted this part incorrectly?

looks like they nailed twitch on xbox one, there has been so much games ive been dying to stream on the system - I hope microsoft cuts a deal with hitbox.tv one day too.

True. I guess to me it's weird XB1 owners can view PS4 games. I would think MS would want all the focus on their own products. But like you said, they have the XB1 already so it doesn't matter.

You have a link about this? I haven't seen anything about an app on PS4.

Not going to lie a bit jealous :/ ps4 app is pretty bare bones at the moment. I want to watch all of twitch streams and not just ps4 streams that are limited to people using the system streaming :/ Can anyone link me to the source if twitch is really making a ps4 app?

I raised an eyebrow on that one. I'm pretty sure you can do that on PS4. It was one of the first things they showed off when showing off their Live from Playstation stage demo.
I'm upset the PS4 chat doesn't have twitch faces though. I need my FrankerZ!

Chalk one up to competition.

Its early but a lot of momentum is going Sony's way this early in the next gen war. This was a step in the right direction for MS as for once so far they can claim to have one upped Sony. Granted their twitch app was late but it appears that competition has given consumers a better offering. Its also nice to read some positive press for once coming out of the MS camp.

I thought I read that somewhere, but I'm looking everywhere and I can't seem to find anything. o_o

Huh, that's weird. Could have sworn Twitch or Sony said an app was coming.

Error, Twitch in PS4 isn't an app, is a system feature.

Given how terrible the mobile Twitch apps were for so long, I wouldn't have advertised that, hah.

Anyone know if Twitch will let you archive streams done from Xbox One? My assumption is they won't since they don't with PS4, but it would be nice if I was wrong.

I thought Microsoft created all their apps, is this new that Twitch created theirs?

Microsoft works with them, I believe for the kinect integration and other system integrated features. For example, netflix also created the xbox one netflix app, project halo.

Ermm am I missing something here? Why has there been no mention of streaming video of yourself with Kinect (without a headset and with full head tracking) while broadcasting?

Surely that is the number one differentiating feature of an Xbox one stream as the PS camera is optional.

edit: ahh. Its in the vid. My bad.

Interesting, the tracking feature might be coded into skype, but it may not necessarily yet be coded into skype just yet, although that would be a good question to ask MS. Or maybe it's a system wide feature that doesn't need to be coded into specific apps.

Apparently you can on Xbox1. At launch you could archive on PS4 but Twitch disabled it a couple of days later. I wonder if MS had anything to do with that?

Nice update! Looking forward to it. Honest question though. Other than larger name streamers, who the hell is actually gonna get views? Majority of the people who decide to use it (myself included) are just regular jackasses that nobody cares to watch...so whats the point??

I don't get where the misinformation is coming from. You can broadcast to anyone on PS4, not just PS4 owners. You can view full screen, you can join anyone's game.

That was exactly my point, I read that like being able to stream The Xbox One and watch that stream on your smart phone, desktop or tablet was "unique." But the PS4 is already doing that.

It appears the difference is you can watch PC, 360 and PS4 streams on the Xbox One, which you cannot currently do on the PS4 Live with PlayStation App.

Yeah, the Live with PlayStation App's Twitch Integration has a "Play Game" button right there on the screen. You must obviously own the game though. And it sounds like you send a request to join the game on the Xbox One, and the streamer then decides to let you join? Is that how it works?

Yeah, I never really got it either. The people who are serious about streaming are still going to use capture cards and other equipment so they can customize their stream with overlays, donations, etc. I think some people might want to stream for real life friends though and I could see the built in twitch functionality being a draw for those people.
