Would you risk opening new production lines to take advantage of initial demand, or would the expect demand to slowly soften to match current production

It is also software that people can spend a lot of time with, making draughts less apparent to people who do not regularly purchase a ton of games every year.

Don't forget about the F2P, cross-buy ports and PS+ freebees. My PS4 library is big, and I've only bought 3 games on it. The idea that there is any sort of drought on the PS4 is nuts when you include all games, not just retail ones.

These posts make me laugh. I haven't stopped playing my Ps4 since launch which had never happened before in my long history of owning consoles.

At launch it was Knack, Res0gun, Assassins Creed, Need for Speed. Into December I got Killzone, Lego Marvel, then discovered Warframe. In January it was Rayman Legends, Don't Starve, Tomb Raider. In February I discovered War Thunder UK and my Warframe addiction got stronger. Couldn't stop playing it.

Then came last month with MGSV, Infamous, Dead Nation, Towerfall, Fez etc. With playtime going toward Final Fantasy beta and my War Thunder crack addiction.

This month will be final fantasy 14, trials fusion which sold me on the demo and child of light.

Next month is also huge with Transistors, Bound By Flame, MLB The Show and Watch Dogs all hitting.

I have never been so flooded in quality gaming within the first year if a console ever.

My point was many of these games can already be played on other systems. Also not many of them target me personally because I'm mainly a JRPG gamer.

Regardless, I am excited to get my PS4 this Friday and try Infamous SS :) I just hope we see many more game announcements at E3!

fantastic post

theres just soo much to play right now on ps4.

expected more but still very impressive. it wont reach the heights of ps2/wii but it will be this gens best seller. they prob lost npd question is by how much.

This is just amazing really, 7 million at the beginning of April, weren't they aiming for 5 million by the end of March?

And to everyone saying "How did they sell this many with no games", I just did a quick count up and I have 25 games in my Library (I also don't play CoD/ Battlefield/ Sports which I think makes it even more impressive), I've plenty to do.

There are also network effects. Ps4 has become Xbox 360. Your friends have it. Everything is reviewed on it. Developers show their games on it. That it continues to snowball is no surprise.

And this..

< Sony, cough, MS, cough, Nintendo, cough >

..is why you court the hardcore gamer from day -120 through the second year.

They don't care about your living room/accessory/synergy vision, your ideas to monetize all the features while blowing smoke up their ass, or your plan to bring in casuals. They want a strong gaming system and strong software to back it up. Hit the right notes and don't jerk them around, and they'll build a very strong foundation that then trickles over to less hardcore gamer, late adopters, and eventually casuals, low information gamers. You know, those millsions that don;t play games, they play the xbox, or the nintendo, or the playstation, or watch the dvd.

Flipping them off day one, then talking down to them instead of regrouping, isn't gonna fly. Never tell them your last gen system is for them when they bring up questions and concerns.

I'm other guy that never had so many games to play in a launch console... I never had a backlog after 4 months.

Crazy.

I'm in love with Warframe since last week.

EA predicted 10 million by the end of march between ps4 and xbox, they got close. Ps4 is more 7 million and xbox should be 4 around million.

When you looked the at best selling PS4 and Xbox One launch games, they were all the major franchises from last gen.

People want to play these games, so it makes sense that the majority will buy the best versions on the PS4.

well not really...yet

Yep, I've consistently had something to play on my PS4. Every month since launch, PS+ games, exclusives, superior multiplatform games...and now FF14 which is a lot of fun and runs amazing. Comparatively, my Bone is gathering dust, and Titanfall got boring within a week, only reason im getting Elder Scrolls Online on it is so I can actually use the damn machine.

I honestly can't remember a better launch / launch window / year 1 lineup. Has there been one (as subjective as these things go)?

If you're complaining about no games on either system, you're not really a gamer (which begs the question why buy into launch) or just a fanboy douchebag. There's a ton of good-great software out there right now.

Impressive. I don't understand why people say it doesn't have games. Between physical and digital I have around 20 ps4 games which is more than I've ever had with any console around launch.

Nice post. The last point I hadn't really thought about, but it's true. The PS4 launch is a pretty much a dream come true for Sony and gamers.

I never imagined that i would finally know how those glasses are named in a sales thread lol

Anything can happen on GAF. :)

How many sales can we expect from Sony by the time the PS4 turns one? Surely it can't continue going at such a high pace, right? They are doing great but its only normal to slow down at some point, isn't it?

We have the install base, now give us more next gen games!

Whether its XB1 or PS4 I like seeing next gen picked up, provides more incentive to make more next gen focused games.

Expected more? Won't sell as much as PS2/Wii? It's tracking faster than both of those. How fast do you think companies like Foxconn can crank out game systems? 1 million per month manufacturing is pretty damned good.

Imagine the numbers the ps4 will pull when gta5 hits.

A lot of us have been holding out for a PC port and never picked it up on PS3/360. If it does come to PS4, I would probably get it there (when I eventually get a PS4) because I'm sure it will run better than on my computer (i5, 8 gig, 670). I also never got around to picking up The Last of Us so that's quite enticing as well!

Thanks for the info btw! :)

Sony needs to put TLoU remastered, GTA5 and Minecraft PS4 versions on June and then just sit to watch the sales

No problem. :)

I agree. I'm looking forward to remasters on PS4. I missed some stuff last gen even though I own a PS3. Now that my budget can allow for more games, I want to grab the games I missed, preferably on PS4. Looking forward to TLoU and hopefully GTA5

why would it move systems if its multiplatform?

because people only buy their multiplats on one system?

to the real people in the real universe, a multiplat might as well be an exclusive. why? they're not going to buy nba 2k for xbone and ps4. they buy it for one. that one console will be the console of their multiplats for the next 8 years.
