Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 7: How Can My Smash Brother Be This Cut

There are demos on the show floor.

I assume as much, but is that confirmed anywhere? I wonder what the E3 Roster will be.

I doubt it's all of the announced characters. Maybe it's last year's reveal roster (since they've likely had the most work/polish)?

That changes the tournament entirely. 16 press members not knowing what they're doing is infinitely worse than 16 pro smash players showing off that the new smash bros is actually trying to be competitive (for glory!).

16 press members playing 'for fun' = Smash Bros Brawl
16 pro players playing 'for glory' = Smash Bros Melee

Whichever they choose will tell the fans what this game is trying to be closest to.

Your logic here is extremely flawed man

Holy shit... didn't expect to wake up to this, this afternoon. My roommate was blowing up my phone with texts, pissing me off. Totally worth it. We are renting a car and going to the Best Buy an hour away. Were the kiosks up for every day of e3 last year? If so, we can watch the e3 direct/invitational then go to best buy and play smash 4 the next day, right?!

Last year it was from Wednesday to Saturday, so four days of Smash being playable.

Edit: See below for correction.

Last year their "Nintendo Experience" was only two days and a very limited block of time.

The website for it's still up, actually.

This is kind of an overreaction. They want the press to play because the press reach more people than competitive players. It has nothing to do with gameplay mechanics.

Last year it was:

Tuesday: E3 Direct (12PM EST)
Wednesday: Best Buy Event (4-8PM)
Saturday: Best Buy Event (1-5PM)

one setup per store. I waited in like for 2 hour to play Wind Waker HD, and then another 2 hours to play 3D World. Smash Bros will probably garner 10x the interest of the crap they had last year, so unless they have more setups, it's going to be a mess.

The press can still play on showfloor, or whatever. The press can also attend the tournament. It sounds like they're opening up nokia theater to more than just the press.

Having pro players play, they will be able to show off that smash can be played at competitive levels, which then appeals to the pro scene, which can increase sales. The tournament will be covered by press anyway, just because it shows off smash gameplay and mechanics. Having people who have played smash once or twice (I'm sure a lot of members of the press haven't played smash since they had to review Brawl) will do nothing but show off casual gameplay and not the actual mechanics of the game. It demonstrates an entirely different side of the game. The casual, party-game side that brawl was slated toward.

After everything we've seen and heard, it sounds like nintendo actually wants this game to be competitive. They're balancing, tweaking, everything. They let melee be played at evo. They would probably MUCH rather have the newest smash played at evo (free advertising), but you can't do that if it's not balanced and played competitively.

I may have zoomed in the Brawl shot too much, but it is clear the Smash 4 one is longer.

As for Samus, it seems to be the same length as Brawl's (how did I not know this before). The change however is that it seems the chain/whip no longer curves when the characters start their swing towards the platform. So it will straight during the swing.
Because people who follow the game enough to read reports from competitive players will also check news websites, while not everyone who clicks on news websites follows competitive players.
And I don't see why that matters? There will be a playable demo of the game on the showfloor for the press to play most likely.

It doesn't matter who plays as long as the game is being played lol.

After seven games antagonizing Samus, he still hasn't managed to be the final boss.

What an underacheiver.
Zero Mission says hi. (Well, it was kind of Ridley...)

All skilled players from video games journalism. That would be terrible but hilarious at same time.

Ben Kuchera vs. Arthur Gies. The hype is real.
But then all fall to Jim Sterling, breaking his "I will never attend press events" stance to rightly trounce all other competitors.

Blue scarf Link would be a hype alt come to think of it.

Also I should have known that today was going to be an interesting Smash news day when I was in the middle of my 8AM Physics lab thinking "damn I want to watch Westballz sacred combo again" out of the blue. :lol

I honestly don't think it'll be journalists, based on the way they phrased it. At least not for the invitational. Maybe 1-2 that are actually good, but i'm hoping we actually see well known players play.

Super Smash Bros. Invitational
2014 will see the arrival of not one, but two new Super Smash Bros. games: Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. To commemorate this occasion, Nintendo is inviting 16 highly skilled Super Smash Bros. players to the NOKIA Theatre L.A. LIVE in Los Angeles to compete in a Super Smash Bros. for Wii U tournament. Thousands of fans in the audience and countless more watching a live stream online will see new Super Smash Bros. characters clash with existing favorites in action for the first time. More important than declaring a winner, however, this event is a celebration of all things Super Smash Bros., and a great way for new and veteran fans to take part in a tribute to this legendary franchise. More information about the 16 invited participants in the tournament, the identity of the announcers, and how fans of the franchise can view the tournament in person and via webcast, will be communicated shortly.

They'd be pretty silly if they did, since Smash is almost guaranteed to garner a larger crowd.

But they may be bottlenecked by something else.
The amount of Nintendo reps they can have. They had only 1 where I went. I left because it was a mess.

This post is a good example of why, if it were feasible, video game companies should just never interact with consumers.

Hope this doesn't mean that the invitational is 'press members' and not actual 'skilled smash bros players'

Going by your interpretation of this exchange, wouldn't that mean Rodrigo, a Nintendo employee, would have to be participating in the tournament?

Doesn't make any sense...

:p I am taking it a bit to the extreme (especially my melee vs brawl comparison) but it does sent a totally different message to the smash audience if say, stephen totilo was one of the 16 vs someone like mew2king.

The type of gameplay they will demonstrate will be vastly different. It won't answer any questions about whether smash 4 will actually try to be competitive or not if it's just random press memebers. What's the point of even having an invitational tournament if you're just going to have 16 below-average-skill players playing?

Hmm, what if Toon Link has a Grappling Hook instead of the Hookshot? And what if you can charge it to grab people from far away while on the ground? Just throwing an idea out there without much thought lol.

Even though i'm bad at wording things, and exaggerate a bit much, I hope you guys can at least get what I'm trying to say. :/

I AM NOT SAYING THIS IS CORRECT OR WHAT EVERYONE BELIEVES but there are people out there that can and will be influenced by whether or not smash is potentially competitive. Having 'Pro' players at the tournament tells a subset of fans 'Hey, smash is actually competitive, you should buy it so that you can be pro one day too!'

That's all I'm saying. You don't *LOSE* players by making your game competitive, or at least appear to be competitive. You can only gain consumers by doing so.

Edit:

Even if ridley isn't in smash bros, at least she's in star wars 7 - http://www.imdb.com/name/nm5397459/
