At the end of the day, it's just more entertaining to watch something be performed in front of a live audience instead of on a small computer screen. It's why the movie theatre experience has value to it vs watching at home on a laptop, or why it's more exciting to go to a baseball game at Yankee Stadium than by watching it at home. I know you get the same information at perhaps a greater pace and more... "directly," but there's a certain level of theatrical flair when you get to kind of join in on the excitement of what's being presented to you with dozens if not hundreds of other people. No, you're not there, but you can relate to the emotions and excitement of those you see witnessing the same product, game, or event when you see their reactions emulate yours.

It's just really cool to see something you love presented to large groups of people, and seeing their reaction to it. It's hard to explain for someone who doesn't "get it," but that's the jist of it.
It's not that I don't understand this way of thinking, but it strikes me as odd.

I get why people thinks this can be exciting, but I don't quite understand them being so bullish about this new format and labeling it as less public, not accessible and what not. I do agree that thing that attending a sports game or movie can be exciting, but I feel it's a little different compared to a live stream on the internet.

Maybe I've gown cynical, but the reaction from the public (positive or negative) doesn't influence me at all, because I'm inclined to belief the folks reacting to this all are employees or something like that.

Well, I didn't mean to imply it was any less public. All I'm saying is that it's more exciting and inviting to have an event shown to an audience than how they've been doing things.
Got the message ;)

Is it too early for a bingo sheet? I've got too much hype, and this is the only way to get it all out. These are the games i think will be at nintendo's e3 event

What if it's simultaneously 3D on TV and 2D on the gamepad and they incorporate puzzles that take this into account with the different advantages inherent in each viewpoint?

i suggested this about a year or so ago. i would love to see it. i don't think nintendo is going to actually like, use the gamepad conceptually though.

Curses, I thought I'd had a decent, original videogame idea for a moment there. Never mind, out by one year is still my best effort yet!

Live press conference is way better than a pre recorded video. It's just more hype that way. Crowd reactions are a big part of it.

But a pre-recorded video is far from bad.

I really think that if Nintendo are going to attract mass audiences, they're going to need to up the scope. What made LttP -> OoT, OoT -> WW/TP so exciting was seeing the franchise go in completely different directions when it came to the scope of the game. Personally I'd love to see Nintendo implement the Game Pad to make accessing the map, items, etc more convenient and less intrusive, then work on making the game more exciting and immersive simultaneously. I'd love to see new methods of travel, or perhaps integrating multiple ways to traverse Hyrule. Epona is cool, but what if at some point you could get Epona to grow wings, and now you can flight throughout the land making it easier and grander to travel? That would interest people, I feel.

know, you probably won't believe me but I want to share the informations I got with you.

I'm from Germany and I know a good friend who works at Nintendo in Großostheim. A part of the restructure progress of Nintendo is to have deep contract with all their HQ's to make sure everything is fully scheduled regardless of which country.

They are working pretty hard with Nintendo of America and Nintendo of Japan for the E3 and he got some great informations for me, because he knows I'm a big fan. So believe me or not, I really don't care. Of course he can't reveal all of it, but he allowed me to have a sneak peak at their plans for E3 2014.

- The Digital Event is completely different from a regular direct, it features a stage and a audience which are 80+ knownless fans invited from Nintendo to a special room. They will make it atmospheric as they can, Reggie, Iwata, Aonuma etc are on stage, furthermore it will have a changing background with fog machines etc. So you truly won't miss the old conferences :)

- Nintendo will announce Zelda U, he said it's going to be the game we are waiting for, very big world, fully filled with many secrets and life, it will feature a more stylized tech demo look, it has a more mature storyline and sidequests similar to Majoras Mask, complex dungeons and there's a very cool feature which will drive the Zelda series so much forward. That's the informations I could get out of him!

- he said "Nintendo will finally announce many comebacks from old IPs we are waiting for and they will blow your mind". (I guess FZero, Metroid, Starfox etc? )

- Nintendo will announce some new IP's, two casual IPs in the vein of Nintendogs and Wii Sports , the others are hardcore IPs in the Zelda, Metroid league and there is even one IP which will appeal to the CoD/BF audience with Nintendo gameplay. (NICE!! Nobody needs new casual IPs though, glad there are also some new hardcore IPs!)

- There is one cancelled project that was previously announced (? Don't really get what he means)

- Besides of that, they will also show many new 3DS games and a new hardware!

- He said QoL will be discussed on a seperate event at E3 time (maybe one treehouse livestream?) to appeal to the right audience.

- There are some remakes (Majoras Mask??!?)

- Iwata will talk a little about his mistakes

- It's planned to have a lot of charming jokes like you saw in the Reggie Fils A Mech video

- There will be a BIG surprise at the end that will completely blow ur mind!

That's all I got out from him, I will keep you updated so please stay tuned. I fully understand if you believe this is a joke, I for one would think that too if I would be a reader, but I just deliver the information to you, it's really not a joke.

Happy discussing! :)

I REALLY hope that is true! What do you guys think!

Michelangelo painted the Sistine Chapel. Yabuki turned off voice chat in Mario Kart races. True artists of their time.

Every time I see support for a Ruby/Sapphire remake, it melts my heart. If it comes true I'll be so happy.

There's not a ton in there that doesn't seem like a safe prediction except perhaps the talk about new IPs. 80 random fans getting invited by Nintendo? Umm, ok, I guess. The only thing I really agree with is that Zelda will be the game in this presentation that generates the most buzz. Outside of that, it's hard to comment on others when you have vague predictions like "a big surprise that will blow your mind."

Please don't post garbage like this. These "rumors/inside info" posts get made all the time by people desperate for attention.

I do find it funny that Nintendo is calling their presentation a "Nintendo Digital Event". I guess they want to make a clear distinction between this and a Nintendo Direct. There may well be a more "stagey" aspect to it.

Seriously the month or so before E3 is seriously fantastic. That's when you get all the rumors and info from uncles and cousins that work at Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft. It's fantastic, I know it clogs up threads sometimes but it's hilarious to read.

Thats something i can see happening especially with the way nintendo have said its not quite the same as last year and the fact as its not branded as a direct.

Usually these fake/rumor things are pretty funny but also annoying in some ways. If someone on gaf made a post like that they would be banned the moment they are proven false. But it's okay to repost something that is equally full of shit? I'm not suggesting anyone deserves to be banned but I don't like seeing Neogaf devolve into gamefaqs or the ign boards every E3 season. I feel like we are all capable of being more discerning than to repost everyone who has an uncle or aunt who "works for Nintendo", even if the totally fake rumors are sometimes fun to discuss.

Wait, Nintendo's probably going to distribute the Digital Event live stream through YouTube, right? They've already set that precedent both with the Directs and with the announcement video embed on their E3 site (Nintendo never does this for prerecorded content in America, until now preferring to use its own in-site video player).

I believe that bit about remakes

first being smash brawl HD with updated online coming out after Nintendos E3 digital event D:

Yeah, the quality of the Directs has gone through the roof lately.

Before, the content of the directs was great but the pace was really bad and iwata as a english narrator was just... Also, before, the directs were really simple and didnt give a great image. The standard that i had for a direct in those aspects was really low.

Now, it seems like they actually care about their image, like if they had a marketing team or something looking at them.

The direction that they took with the mario kart direct + not having iwata as the narrator was a needed change. On one hand i didnt like the mario kart direct that much (because it had some weak parts), but on the other hand i loved it because of the change. I am happy.

I have nothing to complain about the tomodachi direct because we will likely never see another one as great as that one. (well, it was like made for gaf. It didnt cater to some audiences)

This made me laugh for some reason

what if it's really fucking good though- like two times the size and length of albw

I don't doubt the quality of the game, but no scenery really bothers me. I think the whole sense of adventure in a Zelda installment is much less restrained when I'm not constantly staring at the ground.

Of course I'll get compared to "Celda naysayers", but I don't think that's quite fair. Artstyle preference is hardly the same as feeling limited by the perspective of the gameplay.

I wish they could meet it halfway. A live show at E3 from a studio would have the immediate feel of something like GameTrailers E3 coverage without blowing the bank on theatre hire and fancy lighting.

They actually did up the scope with Skyward Sword. The areas in SS are massive. They are several times bigger and more involved than their equivalent areas in previous Zeldas. For example:

This is Death Mountain in Twilight Princess:

It's just a straight climb up the mountain where you sumo some Gorons along the way. You do have to collect light tears and return to Ordon to get the iron boots and rescue the kids in a horseback battle but my god was that shit tedious; and people give SS shit.

This is Eldin Volcano in Skyward Sword:
cXYu9Wu.jpg

It's a huge area that twists around on itself. You run through it solving some puzzles, fighting some enemies, and collecting some keys.

Honestly, is there any doubt that it will, at some point, happen? It's been awhile since the last remaster with Gold and Silver, and we got a fancy new engine and everything. I'll be surprised if we don't see it at some point in the 3DS's lifespan.
