y'know, shenmue's QTEs are actually quite alright, all things considered. they give you ample time to respond with a very bright and central visual cue along with the signature "DAH-DEET-DEET-DEET-DEET-DEET-DEET-DEET" audio to alert the player. it helps that the QTEs correspond to the buttons used during the FREE battle sequences, it ingrains a link between what is happening on screen and what button you're pressing.

even then quite a lot of them (especially in shenmue 2) allow you to fail them entirely and still continue with the game.

Iwata announces renewed partnership with SEGA.

Drops Shenmue 3 for the Wii U on E3, is already 2 years in development, will release early 2015.

Imagine the tears on GAF.

That would get me to buy a Wii-U. Like, pretty much instantly.

has anybody checked for any trademark renewals in the united states at all?

or what exactly the japanese trademark covers?

just to rule out that this might be a second run at shenmue city yu suzuki had mentioned after the old version was discontinued in 2011

I was never a massive Shenmue guy. I own it on Dreamcast but haven't played it for more than 20 minutes. Got tired of hearing "I see" every 2 seconds.

But I know a guy who would shit bricks if Shenmue 3 happened. He has an Xbox One but would buy any other console it released on.

I hate to be "that guy" but the Shenmue trademark is just a renewal (by Japanese trademark law after 10 years you need to get a new serial number and the latest registration was in 2004). Basically, it means nothing.

This ?

WHen did the trademark get renewed, do we have an exact date.

I mean, the only suspicious things are that the website is down and that E3 is soon.

It doesn't mean anything I know, but an exact date would be nice.

it probably is just coincidental that the renewal is happening this year and this close to E3

but

there have been more rumblings about shenmue 3 happening this year than for several years prior, yu suzuki is sort of back in the limelight and making appearances, sony and microsoft have opened themselves up for taking suggestions from gamers only to be flooded by demands for shenmue, and the shenmue website went down around a week ago...

combined with this comment from eurogamer:

“It was a slightly odd sensation to learn, through Suzuki’s comments, that Shenmue 3 is more than just a dream. Suzuki said more than I’m able to fully disclose, unfortunately, but it became clear it’s as close to being announced as it has ever been over the past decade.”

i think... there's something coming

2003/08/20 nope
kind of contradicts that ten year renewal rule, which means they would have renewed last year... but if news is breaking of the renewal being recent that doesn't make any sense

either way, both the shenmue and shenmue online trademarks are dead at the US patent/trademark office, not that the US trademark really means anything at this stage of the game, especially if something is actually being developed in japan

shenmue's trademark in the US didn't get filed until feb 1999, for example

Guys.

According to Shenmue500k Discussion regarding this screenshot of the trademark from Shenmuedojo.net the trademark filing is NEW. Not a renewal of an old trademark. Meaning, SEGA had to have actively filed for a brand new trademark.

so what would stipulate a new trademark over a renewal?

somebody else financing the project? a co-publishing agreement? a re-release? a new instalment?

Ahh Shenmue .. it must be E3 again.

Don't want Shenmue HD cause it would sell like shit, just give us Shenmue 3 already.

You underestimate Shenmue fans, we'd all run out and buy WiUs.

Here's to hoping it's the long-rumored HD remakes and not another Shenmue City mobile type thing. Although I suspect it is nothing, I still maintain hope.

going to have a brief attempt at dismantling any notion that it might be a japanese only mobile spin-off

when shenmue gai came around the trademark listed the title in japanese as シェンムー街, which made sense seeing as it was a japan only title

however, if this new trademark is using the romanisation of the title, that indicates they have intent on using whatever the trademark was made for in western markets

there's also the fact that the trademark isn't suffixed with something that indicates a spin-off, and it'd be... pretty fucking dark if sega were to name some mobile game just shenmue as an act of erasure against the original

if this has been done for a game, it's going to probably be a mainline title
