Didn't like, every call of duty trailer since call of duty 4 have rap music in their trailers? ( I may be exaggerating here, but still )

Rap is a very underground genre that is underrepresented, nobody has heard of it dude. Have you seen a video game with rap music in it? I sure haven't.

Cool trailer...watching via YouTube on my tv though, a lot of the most 2D looking shots, I could see looking like the real game. Maybe 1080p direct feed on my computer monitor I'd say no way, but I think the actual game could look like most of what I just watched.

Remember this?

Can you believe this was once a sought after title? Wasn't it? I never bought it.

Rap is a respected genre of music don't get me wrong.

It was confirmed that the trailer was cg this morning by someone who worked on it. I'm gonna be realistic ignoring the lighting, dof and all those special offline rendering techniques and just focus on the character models. I don't think we will get anywhere close tbh regarding texture quality. UE4 looks very promising but i don't think this can be achieved.

Well, I'll admit, there isnt much rap in video games, but there are games with rap music. The first ones that jump to mind are Marc Ecko's Getting up and Def Jam: Fight for NY.

comparing to the infiltrator tech demo.

It's close

Infiltrator demo is real time and we will get it this year to test it. UE4 is very very very strong and gets updated each day, and even common people or even medical specialists can contribute to its progress. You have to go to the forums to see what is being cooked there. There are other companies who work together to improve the engine with techs I can't talk about.

I was being sarcastic. There are people in this thread pretending that hip hop is underrepresented in video games. Call of Duty, GTA, Madden, Street Fighter, etc. have all used hip hop in trailers and in game. If you think it isn't a mainstream genre you are lying to yourself.

Also Wiz Khalifa is like one step away from The Black Eyed Peas Y'all.

Definitely, it's the engine i'm most excited to see more of hopefully at e3.

edit: This is probably the samaritan ue 3.5 ported over to ue4. Infiltrator tech and this pic have a sort of cg look to it.

That smoke effect was already possible in the samaritan ue 3.5 demo

All of you are crazy. The music makes that trailer. Do you seriously want just another videogame trailer with an ambient orchestral track to back it. We've literally had hundreds of those in the past year, so how about a breathe of fresh air for a change? So trite...
I don't mind that, not to mention we had rap music in trailers for shooters as well(COD, Battlefield, etc.).

Rap as a genre, underground? Haha, not quite.

Anyway, it has been used in many games as far back as PS1 era. Granted, more often as simply part of the BGM, rather than an immersive cultural experience. Thrasher: Skate and Destroy had a great sound track, mostly hap / hip hop. Def Jam series, as mentioned Echo. I'm indeifferent when it comes to hip hop - I enjoy some of the old school J5 stuff - but, shit just needs to fit within context, that's all.

For everyone else, don't forget Reptile's theme (from back when he was cool and didn't look like an enemy you'd kill a horde of in dragon age.)

Reptile's new MK9 theme is great as well. Skrillex did a good job. It gets you hype

You, sir, are not a MK player

I am, but the reason for a button dedicated to block was to not be like street fighter, and that is a standard for fighting games now.

That said, i wouldn't mind a button for it as long as it is still fun

i dont think so the prese relase said orginal story with new character along with scorpion and subzero

I remember Ed Boon, before MK9 was announced, saying he wanted a wholly original cast for the next MK with the exception of a few fan favourites like Scorpion and Sub-Zero. I thought that idea had been scrapped since MK9's release, but maybe it hasn't? It would be very interesting if MK10 went in that direction.

Interesting trailer and concepts that hopefully get well implemented. Did not like the music one bit, but I highly doubt that music will be in the game. Seeing some of the replies in this thread, I feel that I need to issue a statement: Rap is not underground, it's not underrepresented in games, and it's use here was not "fresh."

I wonder if literally the majority of this thread has been about rap music and not the fucking trailer at all. GAF never disappoints

Anyways, has anyone asked about Shao Kahn's voice being in the trailer as the announcer? Was really expecting Shinnok :/

Haha, in fairness music often sets the emotional tone of a trailer. When there's an apparent clash of context / creative verve which doesn't match up, people will get noisy. The music / audio is just as much a part of the trailer as anything else, so you can't just discount it it. IMHO, however, the trailer really doesn't do anything but help to garner hype, as it's already been stated by a dev that it's CG. We can assume the art direction their giong, and some gameplay mechanics - interactables, x rays back, possible running / dashing etc. Other than that? "shrugs"

And all hail Kahn.

As an old school, MK1 arcade player, I wouldn't mind that all all. The franchise has ran pretty deep with its current lore. A large, and proper, shake up wouldn't be a bad idea.

It's real-time in the sense that you can scrub through the video and pause and swap the camera. But it also has no gameplay...

That trailer may not have been real time but who cares really ?

It was like many other pre-rendered proof of concept videos , designed to get people interested in the game as a product more so than simply to show off.

There are a few things that caught my eye in there- Scorpion and sub-zero seem fixed on a 2D plane but the forest is actually a large environment. This could mean that some of the stages may be "endless" like in say Tekken. Still a 2D fighting game though.

Secondly, Sub Zero freezes a branch and uses it as a weapon- I'm assuming this will end up as an expansion on some of the ideas Injustice introduced. You could interact with some objects in the background that made the fighting a bit more dynamic. This is witnessed again with the swinging dismount kick off the side of a much larger tree branch.

During this same fight we see many of each characters classic special moves- this breeds familiarity with fans.

Obviously it's impossible to know for sure but I'm thinking we're in for the next logical step up from Injustice setup. Hopefully that means a basic combat engine closer to Injustice than MK9.

I'm looking forward to seeing the actual game, hopefully next week there will be some in game stills and maybe even Ed Boon will share some more info.

Lol, it has no gameplay, because for now (the thing we know so far) there is not a game about it yet but everything can change later (or already changed and the game is being developed)., but not only you can scrub or fly through in it, you can chnge everything in it like developing a real game with the editor and even play what you did. It means, if you develop a game around that concept, you can get those same results and nothing is faked. I am sure Mortal Kombat X using UE4 will look insane, if the devs are in close contact with Epic and they provide them with latest tehcs and updates.

For this special occasion, I watched some videos of all the MK9 fatalities.
Man, that was some over the top and absurdly sick and gory shit.

I can't wait to see how they top it.

I know it's a CG trailer but i think they can get close as long as the last gen versions dont hold the game back ala watch dogs.

For the first time, Mortal Kombat X gives players the ability to choose from multiple variations of each character impacting both strategy and fighting style.

Hmm... Come to think of it. Mortal Kombat Trilogy PS1 kinda did this first.
