Mortal Kombat X - CG trailer (PC/360/XB1/PS3/PS4, 2015, E3 Debut, Box Art, Info, UE3)

Yep, that is my fear as well... They need to work on their fundamentals before padding things out with in stage gimmicks.
Yep, that's what made so many of the PS2 Mortal Kombat games terrible. They were more interested in adding bulllshit to the games rather than fixing the basics. They need to pay attention to movement, normals, and character speeds. Make each character feel unique. That shit shouldn't just be defined by their special moves.

... Why was that human SubZero? I thought that with Noob Saibot and Cyber-SubZero in the last game we were effectively left without a SubZero now? (Thus leaving the door open for Frost's return).

This has been brought up too many times. I guess people have forgotten the details of the plot. Quan Chi now controls the souls of all of the warriors who died during MK9. Don't you remember that part in story mode where you fought all of the undead characters in the neatherrealm? I assume they all will be fighting for Shinnok in MKX. And a dead cyber sub zero means he probably reverted back to human form.

It looked good(well it's not in-game lol), but there were two things that really felt off to me:

1)the music, what was that shit? I don't want that in a fantasy, dark, bloody fighting game like mortal kombat, original music or metal are the only options for me.

2)voices, this is just me, but those voices seemed too equal to the ones of the previous MKs, i mean i love them but it seemed like they copy-pasted the audio files of a previous mortal kombat, another thing is that the video was serious while for some reason i have always considered those voices(and MK in general) not serious, so they don't blend well together imo.

UE3 is disappointing though.

Metal would have been just as awkward, if not more in that trailer.

Again, the instrumental for the trailer was great. The music itself was fine, it seems to be Wiz's singing that doesn't really seem to fit it.

This is UE3 LOL? WAAAAAT!

Just how much better is this going to look than MK9 on PC?

And isn't Injustice running without many jaggies on PS4? I can't see how UE3 is going to push the fighter much. Hmph.

Well Arkham Knight is using a modified UE3.

Look at the difference with the two face model in Arkham City and Knight

Lol, they could have use UE4, made the game look better and RUN better. Try Cafeine UE3 demo then try the newest UE4 demo which not only runs better but looks better in every single way from lighing to even Global Illumination. Devs should really focus on quality instead of quantity, they should ditch the old consoles and ditch UE3 and concentrate on the new gen (engines and consoles).

When the series started to devolve and focus on dumb gimmicks is when we got stuff like Deadly Alliance, Deception and Armageddon. I enjoyed those games for what they were, but there is no question about it that their scaled back focus for MK9 resulted in one of the best MK games ever made.

The (first two I guess, the third sucked imo) 3D games were pretty good though and responsible for MK coming back after all of those terrible games prior. Deadly Alliance was a better fighter with a more interesting story than MK9 even if all of its combos were basically one string. But I digress on where our opinions differ, since we agree on the core point. ne of my friends (is not very good at video games) and loves to use MK9 as a bludgeon to mock ~hardcore fighting game fans~, and I always just tell him that the things people generally dislike about MK9 have almost nothing to do with how accessible it is (that is what they nailed).

I loved Deadly Alliance (and Deception) but, nope.

Eh diff'rent strokes, the premise of Deadly Alliance, and each characters story, was actually interesting, the single player story for MK9 was amazingly stupid. By the end of it I just could not care.

It does raise some questions for how they will do MKX though, considering that 99% of everyone died in the stupidest way possible.

Yep, I'm not seeing the issue. It's even say in the WB statement in the OP:

"The team has worked hard to make sure Mortal Kombat X delivers everything fans expect along with new characters, new game modes and an all new graphics engine."

It is not the same as MK9 but it also not UE4. While UE4 is more capable, the modified engine is clearly very capable. Why is no one complaining that Arkham Knight is "terrible" because of the same engine?

Just no, you can squeeze UE3 to an infinte extent...you will never get the things any vanilla UE4 game can do. With UE3, you will be always stuck with last-gen behaviour of the engine in every aspect and you can't bypass its limits.

Edit: Here maybe the real reasons for not ditching UE3: https://twitter.com/Kitatus_Studios/status/473845861685161984

Now that the confirmation of MKX has sunk in I have to say its a very typical trailer. They really just gave us a bottom of the barrel look into the game with background interaction that really isn't something I am excited about, also Subzero's face looked bad which hints that the women wont fare any better this time either.

Probably just need a proper in game look at E3.

I agree, but I also don't see it as a major problem for the game. The game releases in 2015 but has likely been in development since 2013. There are very few games in that space of time using UE4 other than Epic's own games (feel free to correct me though I could be wrong). Point is, the expectation of UE4 for this game is unrealistic and unnecessary for a cross-gen title. Of course a UE4 game would be great, who wouldn't want that. But this is also absolutely fine. Again, why are there no complaints for Arkham Knight and it's "last-gen tech" that is exclusive to the new consoles?

That is most likely the reason why.

There are many games using UE4 (most of them are indies though) and one game from a big company (Sony Bend). Big companies want to stick to UE3 and last-gen consoles to maximize profits because they have already big names and have nothing to prove, they can just rename the same game and people will still buy it while Indies HAVE TO prove themselves, that is why they always choose newer techs or engines to prove themselves and engrave their name and if one day they will become big enough, they will follow the same path (of laziness and easy money) of the big companies. Sadly, this is how this corrupt business works.

Ah. I see. I still think it's a bit of a double standard for such negativity for this versus Arkham Knight when they use the same engine. Particularly since Arkham Knight is released on newer consoles only, surely those inherent last-gen quirks of that engine should be an issue for those people.

And the fake leaks begin:

No names, no source, nothing.

I want those to be real. I have always wanted to see MK move towards that more creepy occult aesthetic, which the game seems to be moving to. Reminds me of work by Zdzislaw Beksinski

If real I wonder if everyone will be fucking dead and MKing to return to life, considering how everyone except like Johnny Cage and Sonya are dead in the new timeline.

*Sigh*

I'm slowly coming to the realization that the game, among others, will never be released on the Nintendo Wii U.

Never buy a Nintendo console for anything but Nintendo games, anything else that happens to come along is an exception.

I love my system, don't get me wrong. But it's incredibly frustrating that WHEN a 3rd-Party game is released & when you try to support it (such as Need for Speed: Most Wanted), it fails at retail, all because no one else bothers to purchase it.

I disagree, metal is a very vast universe, there are probably more metal subgenres than other music genres all together lol.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bTKj3Jz1f-8

And those subgenres can be very different from each other, just as an example this is (symphonic power)metal
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YqDbyvQJXwI

Very different from what people thinks of metal right? ;)
Lots of metal songs would be good in a soundtrack of a movie or a game.

I still have a very limited culture of the metal but i'm sure there are lots of song that would fit that trailer way better than that shit song.

Vita owner here, I know your pain. I routinely rant about how big companies are not even bothering to cross port their IOS efforts (not that they have appeared and failed, mind you, they have neever really appeared to begin with, even with core properties like Deus Ex, Mass Effect, Gameloft titles and so on, it makes no sense).

WB is under contract to use UE3 until the end of either this year or next.

This year.

Burbank, Calif. - March 17, 2011 - Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment today announced a long-term studio-wide license agreement with Epic Games to use the award-winning Unreal Engine 3.

The development software will be available for any team developing a Warner-published game across PC, console and mobile platforms and, through 2014, will be the exclusive game engine used on projects being developed by Rocksteady Studios who are currently working on Batman: Arkham City and developed the critically acclaimed hit Batman: Arkham Asylum for WBIE/DC Entertainment, and NetherRealm Studios, the team behind award-winning Mortal Kombat franchise for WBIE.

"Unreal Engine 3 is one of the leading development tools available for today's creative teams and it is a perfect fit for both NetherRealm and Rocksteady," said Samantha Ryan, Senior Vice President, Production and Development, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. "Mortal Kombat and Batman: Arkham City use the engine's state-of-the-art capabilities to provide the important foundation in bringing gamers the experience they are looking for."

Ed Boon @noobde · 10m

I wouldn't say it's a surprise if Scorpion or Subzero would be playable at E3 2014.

Even if it's not Unreal 4, a modified Unreal 3 engine for the graphics might be the surprise (as shown in the Batman examples above). Who's to say they won't be trying to target that CGI trailer? Is it possible? In my opinion maybe.

We're going to see Scorpion & Sub-Zero playable at E3 for sure. Probably the 2 new characters Boon mentioned. And I'm going to guess a least a couple of people from the MK4-6 era which haven't shown up yet (Fujin has to be one of them).

I seriously cannot stand that MK movie music soundtrack. I think its fantastically cheesy in the worse of ways and any use of that track should be barred from any version of the MK video game.

If you want something awesome, then the dev really should have listen and stuck to their own trumpet, the trumpet of skills used to make this badass soundtrack that was utilize for the MK9 promo:

Say what you want but I've watched this version of the trailer 10 times:http://www.youtubemultiplier.com/538c84dcd05f9-mortal-kombat-x-trailer-music-fixed.php

It fits the trailer so well! Even without modding it lines up perfectly in a number of key points.

Bummer about UE3

Bummer that you guys are still talking about the music.

It's better to know how we feel about the music now then mess it up in game.

hmm, didn't notice that.... i think you're onto something.

this with the "hard 2 explain" part, and the "x" => MK x Injustice?

Or probably just more Boon being boon?

Boon being boon. Probably referring to comic con and or Evo I would say. NRS commonly go to those two.

I wonder if "favoriates" was just an error or was made on purpose.
