Final Fantasy Type-0 (Fan) Translation Released

Square enix: "Whats a Vita? Is it iOS or android?" .....ugh, Square Enix hates money.

For some of their PSP games the issue is with licensing. Crisis Core had some licensed songs where the licenses expired. For Kindgom Hearts, there is something with Disney not licensing the games for digital distribution, no KH games have digital versions.

I don't think that its because of Disney. Disney has a massive amount of games available digitally. It's more likely to be a licensing problem with the Utada songs "Simple and Clean" and "Sanctuary"

I think the only way Square Enix would take notice of the Vita in the west is if an exclusive Vita game actually charted on the NPD which I don't believe has ever happened.

It's easy to do some Twitter campaign to request games, but ultimately companies look at sales numbers.

Blinded by the luminous glory that is David Bowie's physical manifestation.
Alot of multiplat games sell better on Vita, it has an insane attach rate.

To the five people that own the system. Versus... uh... millions of people with smart-phones.

Seems like a logical leap to say your preferred handheld sells better, yeah?
No, it doesn't

I'm testing out FF Type-0 before the patch drops to iron everything out, and I've come across certain parts in the tutorial where the game performance drops drastically. I've come to the conclusion that it's the Texture Scaling option - even at 2x it drops at these points significantly. With Texture Scaling off, it stays max speed. If you have Texture Scaling quality high enough, it can also crash.

Just a heads up.

How did FFXHD do on Vita?

Does porting a game to the Vita require that you cease smart phone production?

I seem to find no difference between non buffered and buffered rendering in this game?

Use non buffered then. Not every game requires buffered, but buffered is considered to be the de facto rendering mode in PPSSPP that most games are comfortable with. The choice between buffered and non buffered has always been about performance, with the former almost always being slower than the latter but more accurate and less glitchy in most cases.

Are you using the latest build of the emulator? As always, specs are needed to troubleshoot the issue.

I have the PPSSPP 0,9,8 :
mode : buffering rendering
post processing shader : natural color
rendering resolution : 4X
Xsync : on
texture scaling : off
anisotropic filtering 16X

The game isn't lagging anymore when I put the texture scaling off and I have a shitty computer : Intel core 2 Duo 2,8
4 go of Ram and a 9800 GT

Did you download it from www.ppsspp.org? You'll need a build from http://buildbot.orphis.net/ppsspp/ to have the shadow fix.

oh thanks, didn't know, I will check that out

Yeah, like Aeana and I've mentioned earlier on, you need to use the latest dev build in order to see the fixed shadows. The official 0.9.8 version does not have those fixes and is severely outdated.

Yeah, I came across this also. I also ended up with an odd glitch where after
turning off the crystal jammer, after an explosion
, everything but the UI elements went black but the game still played. Once I changed zones (Luckily, the game forced a zone change after I killed everyone) it went away. I didn't test it again to see if I could replicate it tbh so it's probably a one off/result of my settings.

I have build 1069-gc9261b7
i5 3570k @ 4.3
GTX 760

All of my shadows are normal in this build also.

I want a long-range fighter and I'm torn between King, Ace, and Trey. I've checked gameplay videos but it's hard to tell without commentary how they differentiate. Anyone know?

Also, how does EXP share work in this game?

Dayum, 9pm already.

Part of me is hoping it'll hit in a few hours cause hell, I really want to play it and part of me hopes not cause then I'd probably stay up all night and go to work with only a couple of hours of sleep

If Square Enix were to charge $30 on iOS for Type-0, I wouldn't be surprised if it would actually sell better on Vita. From what we've seen, Dragon Quest VIII would've likely sold better on anything other than the platforms it got ported to.

This is from memory (I honestly haven't played in a while) but

- Ace is the fastest, with quick, weak hits, and quick dodging and movement speed. IMO, the easiest to play out of the 3, and he's the one the game dumps on you first. His special moves involve getting a chance to do damage or heal yourself depending on how much you trust in the heart of the cards. From memory, he's got the best Magic stat out of the 3 too

- Trey hits harder than Ace, but isn't as fast. Trey can hit things from the furthest away, and is really easy to use Kill Sights with. One of his abilities basically puts him into like a first person shooter mode too, which is kinda funny XD

- King's the slowest of the 3, and needs to stop and reload after 18 shots. He's got more range than Ace, less than Trey, and the most HP of the 3. Like Trey, he's easier to Kill Sight with than Ace because his bullets move faster than Ace's cards He can also dodge while attacking too, which is something Trey and Ace can't do. King has the first person shooter mode as well, from memory.

As for EXp, only the people you use get it.

it's all good now! Thanks guys! the only thing that bug me is the letters :(

If you're talking about how jaggy they are, the 2x texture filtering helps a lot, but you'll get slowdowns.

Yeah, I waited all day yesterday for it to drop. I was hoping it would be up when I woke up this morning, but to luck there.

I'm antsy. Drop the bomb already!

Or you can just change the texture filtering mode from "Auto" to "Linear". That will also smoothen out the fonts if you're so inclined.

Hmm, I just tried that, it doesn't seem to change much?

EDIT: Interesting, when I have Linear turned on, Kill Sight makes the screen flash to a greyscale version of the logo

Double Edit: Derp. I just realised I'd been playing on my old build, not the new one ><

It's not working there.

Should be like this:

Yeah, I just loaded up the right version of PPSSPP and now it's working (I was using my months old version, not the one I downloaded last night ;;>_> <_<;;)

It's 4am, forgive me D:

Why are you passionately lecturing about a hypothesis you have absolutely no evidence for, and that is actually extremely unlikely to be true?
As I said, because the timing is super fishy. If they didn't decide to anticipate the release the day before E3 I would not have entertained the idea that they could have received a C&D or some kind of info and that they're just trying to get it out as soon as possible as a pre-emptive measure.
I highly doubt a fan translation patch would meaningfully impact Type-0's sales. It's a very niche project, and presumably the great majority of people applying the patch have already bought the game - possibly because of it.
Sorry but no, this is crazy talk. 99% of those downloads are going on pirated roms, the world isn't neogaf where people import games before patching them or double/triple tip.
Also, the translation of a FINAL FANTASY isn't niche at all, especially considering that the game would supposedly be released on Vita, so, yeah, tens of thousands download would matter a lot.
But let's assume, also, that the patch would hurt sales. So what? It's a perfectly legitimate project, and the fact that fans have the power to take it into their own hands to make a game accessible to more people is a great thing.
It might be "legitimate", sure, but since he said that honesty is one of their main morals, he'd be going against it since any translator's purpose is to raise awareness and to provide the translation of a game that has not been localized to western fans, but if they know it's going to be localized they most likely care more about the "prestige" of seeing their name on a translation than the actual game itself.
SE badly mismanaging the game's distribution is their own responsibility, not that of the passionate fans you seem weirdly eager to actively express indifference toward..
Read the post again. I just said that I don't care about them or SE "financials" because I wasn't expressing my concern towards those things but the game.
I'm grateful that people like them exist but if you know the game's coming, pack your shit up and translate something else or you're doing the game a disservice, just like the Danganronpa translators did as soon as the game was announced in the west.

But again, this doesn't really matter since they most likely don't know anything specific and I don't think the game is gonna be localized but I do believe they're still doing it before E3 as a safety measure.

Why can't Sony / Square Enix pay these guys for the translation, compile a package, and deliver this on PS Store?

If that's a serious question, it's because they have their own hired translators that they trust. This fan translation could contain anything, be completely wrong, etc. Square Enix would have to use their translators just to look over it and confirm the contents. Double the time spent, double the money.

Because it turns out that translation isn't the costly part of releasing a game!
The game was already translated, anyway. We have confirmation from Feep that the voice work was all completely recorded.

I doubt SE would tell a bunch of fantranslators their plans to release a game in the west before releasing a press release or unveiling at E3 or whatever and if the group got a C&D they would either say that they got one (which they didn't) orignore it (which they would do if they got one). Getting a C&D wouldn't push the release up anyway. What is more likely is that they got it done quicker than anticipated. Maybe some members of the team did a bit more work because they were so close or something?

Can we get a source of that statistic? Anyway, this is a niche title where you want to admit it or not. Yeah, it's got the FF brand name but it's also a Japan exlclusive. Yeah, people will pirate the game. People have already pirated the JP release. Yeah, some people might pirate it now it's got a release but they also wouldn't have bought it untranslated. And yeah, some will import the game now there is a fan translation, maybe not many but it's still a few more sales if they don't go the used game route.

That would mean they would know about an announcement and wouldn't you think they'd say something? If there is an announcement we will find out in a few days anyway.

I suspect they would if the game was announced as coming to the west. But you know, it isn't. Unless you know something you aren't telling us which is why you're so adamant that they do.

Or they are doing it because things were ahead of schedule.

Jesus, that's even worse ..

surely if they have enough money to publish crappy games like Drakengard 3, they can do it for an entry in its flagship franchise.

This will be the first time I've turned on my PSP in about three years. Excited to finally give this a go. Type-0 and 7th Dragon in the same year. Good times.
