We now have the exact same roster, aside from Dixie, I ditched the random to add her. After all it isn't there in the 3DS version, and that's the version they're finalizing. It could take another shape, or just not exist like in Melee and Smash 64. Also space is really a non-issue, if they're gonna add DLC characters they'll change around the roster quite a bit.
Oh, yay! XD I'd love Dixie, too, but I don't think they'd add two Donkey Kong newcomers, and I'd rather see King K. Rool over Dixie Kong, that's why Dixie Kong's not on my roster. But if one of my newcomers gets disconfirmed (King K. Rool, Ridley, or Isaac), then I may add her for the hell of it, lol.

Also, what do you mean the Random slot isn't in the 3DS version? It definitely is!

Quoted, just in case. ;)
That's fine, 'cause there's no way Medusa or Hades is in. Get real people!
In fact I'm so sure they won't, I'm ready to suck all the dicks available if Medusa or Hades ever makes it in Smash.
This joke doesn't work when I use it, because I wouldn't have a problem with that if I was wrong. :( XD

Also you need to have a slot for DLC button in case if DLC actually happened.
I considered it, but if the 47/48 character roster is to be believed, my roster is already made with DLC characters in mind. Also, I don't think there would be just a single slot of DLC. The character select screen would have to be able to adjust for each DLC character, or the DLC characters would have to be on a separate page or something.

Has anyone talked about the custom mii characters they're going to make?

First one for me will be Monkey D. Luffy:

Brawler mii with a straw hat

Planned specials (not much to go on):

I dunno since the time between 3DS and Wii U release date don't really give enough time to make few newcomers unless he's talking about Sakurai holding the characters back for Wii U.

Unless snake is added back in last-minute! :p Wouldn't be as much work as sonic but might not make 3DS release :p

It's just more of a hope that there's going to be more newcomers than the anaemic amount leaked by gematsu.

I mean, didn't sakurai say he wanted to do more retro reps this time around? And yet there's no Takamaru, no sukapon, no excite biker, no Ice hockey or just general nintendo sports rep, no famicom wars rep, no mach rider, no mike jones, none of that.

I was really hoping for at least one character like ice climbers, G&W or R.O.B that hasn't properly been represented before or has never either had a 3D game.

WFT is an alright "joke" pick but she's such a recent character that there's nothing particularly exciting about her inclusion.

Pacman and Little Mac are alright retro reps but it's nothing on the level of Ice Climbers or G&W.

I have a metric ton of Miis now thanks to Tomodachi Life so playing with them in Smash Bros is going to be a bonus!

Any themes you're going to do w/ them? Like, it's cool to just throw a random mii w/ a random moveset (aonuma gunner mii for example) but I'm more interested in what themes you guys are going to apply. A movset/outfit that fits your character thematically.

Yea that'll be something to think about, haha. Once I get to experiment with all the different move combos, we'll see...

That all depends on when the games go gold. If they're scrambling to finish both versions every second before they release then that's unlikely to happen, but it's pretty unlikely that development is so pressed that they wouldn't have some downtime from the point where the code gets pressed to release day to finish up content that didn't make the final cut.

For all we know, the games could both already feature complete and they're just in the process of QA testing and localization.

Yeah, pretty much. Whoever didn't make in the game is more likely to be DLC characters as well.

That's fine, 'cause there's no way Medusa or Hades is in. Get real people!

Alright, that would make sense.

Honestly, do anyone believe that Takamaru would sell very well toward to casual fan bases if they decided to make him DLC character. IF he didn't make on disc roster then he probably have no chance to be DLC character. I know it might sound silly.

I hope so but I doubt it.

I think Sakurai probably considered Mega Man, Pac Man and Little Mac as retro character.

Does anyone else really dislike the new aesthetic direction of Smash Bowser? He used to use his shell and claws for most of his attacks, but now he's...punching, like everyone else. I don't get it, because his aesthetic allows for a lot of unique attack methods, but they're being tossed aside in favor of more generic animations. It really makes me sad, since Bowser is one of three characters I love to play.

I love it everything looks really nice and I really like the new Bowser animations
He seems evil and powerful, his old animations always looked a little odd to me (my opinion)

I would like more gameplay videos though...

I know that they count as retro, it's just disappointing that in the past two games we've had a NES character that's never had a 3D design before as a playable character (IC & Pit), but there's none of that in this game so far.

No new villains either.

What will your controller set up be for smash? For me, gc controller with tap jump off, L for grab and R for shield. Rest of the buttons default.

It was pretty rough at Best Buy... i'm sure the final release will be fine, if never totally ideal

It's totally subjective, but I can definitely understand their complaints. It mostly comes down to things that, if you don't like about the 3DS (small screen size, controls), there's no configuration that will fix that. The 3DS version is inherently more limited because you can't hook it up to a bigger TV, you can't get Gamecube adapters or try a different controller, you're limited to the setup you have.

I'll probably have good fun with the 3DS version until the game is released on Wii U, and then it'll turn into my Smash Run cart... which is OK with me.

How was it rough?

wireless multiplayer lag; controls felt kinda unresponsive; frame rate not where it's supposed to be

I think Little Mac is this game's NES throwback character, even if he has had a newer game.

Yeah, that's the main issue I think. It's hard to figure out where Smash 3DS will exist in my life after Wii U comes out. It was one thing when it was theoretically six months apart, but we're probably looking at a month here.

I usually play my portable games at home because they're different, unique games. At some point, it doesn't make sense to do that when I have the Wii U version, too. Maybe a shocking number of my friends will keep playing the 3DS version online or Smash Run will really grab me, but to some extent, Smash 3DS kind of feels like Ground Zeroes.

Well, that's assuming that the DLC, if there is any, would be paid and not free. How exactly could they do paid character DLC in a decent way? Either the DLC characters wouldn't be able to be used online (or, in the 3DS version's case, via local multiplayer, too), which would be a huge letdown, or there would have to be a mandatory update to play online after the DLC characters are added, but I can't imagine Nintendo distributing the update that includes the data for the DLC characters for free yet charging for the ability to actually use that data separately. That's not something that Nintendo has ever done before with their DLC. Neither situation seems like a very good solution.

Anyway, regarding Takamaru, I still think he'd be the perfect unlockable retro character. And really, he's long overdue now. Pit got in Brawl, so it's time for Takamaru to join Smash Bros. this time around. He has so much move set potential, too. It's going to be really disappointing if he doesn't make the cut at all.

Yeah, I would love to see 3D Design of few retro characters from NES/SNES era. Yeah, I noticed that we didn't even get any villains this time too.

Man

They really didn't like the 3DS version

Just GC controller with tap jump off, I'll normally have Y to grab for L-cancelling and L to grab as well if I'm playing Ness for easier DJC aerials in P:M, but I doubt I'll need any of that seeing as L-cancelling as an input is thankfully gone and I doubt they'll let us DJC again considering they took it out of brawl.

Edit: The 3DS version was always going to be massively inferior.

For me, I just didn't like using the circlepad at all. I felt like it was an approximation of how you play Smash with an analog stick, not a 1:1 conversion.
That's a huge part of why I'm hesitant to get the game. The circle pad is mediocre as it is, and I'm not sure I could handle it in a fighter.

How bad was the lag? Is this at E3 or BB that you played it? The netcode for this game is my #1 concern.

Hades is clearly going to be a secret unlockable, no idea what you guys are talking about.
If we're lucky he'll be a DLC alt costume.

I have a lot of Ideas with the Miis, but I'm going to wait until I see all the customization stuff, first.

I expect I'll do the same I did for Brawl.

Pro Controller.

A + B = Jump
X = Attack
Y = Special
L = Shield
R = Grab

I may switch B to Grab, but we'll see.

Yeah, Smash U will be here for Christmas, don't worry guys.
Iwata said the first NFP (Amiibo) game will be out this year ;)

Nintendo has nothing else for the Wii U otherwise.
Captain Toad doesn't count.
If they delay it, their basically screwed for holiday sales.

If another KI:U character gets in I'm going to be pissed.

I'm already starting to dislike paletena (and rosalina but that's a different story) due to the lack of newcomers from other franchises, but hades being one of, if not the only, new villain would annoy me to no end.

He's the best Nintendo villain in years. Beats an obese crocodile any day!

Regarding the Gematsu leak and the supposed 47/48 character roster... If we are to assume that Chrom, Shulk, and Chorus Kids are the only other newcomers that we're getting, that would leave us with no unlockable newcomers at all, assuming Chrom, Shulk, and Chorus Kids are starters, which I believe they will be, and I'd imagine they'll be revealed in the coming months before release. They're all more recent characters or represent newer franchises, and they're main characters at that (not side characters, villains, or variant characters), and as such none of them really feel right being unlockable to me, especially not Shulk or Chorus Kids since they represent new franchises to Smash Bros.

So, in my opinion, either Chrom, Shulk, and Chorus Kids are the only other newcomers we're getting and there won't be any unlockable newcomers (perhaps there are no unlockable characters anymore?), or there are still some more newcomers that will be unlockable that haven't been leaked yet. I really hope the latter ends up being the case.

That's what I'm thinking. I understand why people want unlockable characters but I think it makes sense from a game director's standpoint not to include them almost exclusively because the game doesn't have a worldwide release and they will be spoiled anyways.

Best Buy. For me it was something I might consider tolerable online, but since I was playing with the guy standing beside me, it was pretty bad. Obviously this is just an E3 build which is bound to improve, so I'm not too concerned at this point.

If the roster had 50+ characters I'd be fine with it but KI:U taking up 20% of the newcomers, one of which has more effort put into it than other default characters (not just because she has 12 unique moves instead of 4 but because she's undoubtedly going to have a stage taunt as well), just because it's from sakurais latest game is too much.

And Hades design is just boring if you ask me, works better as a stage boss/stage taunt because the only interesting thing about him was the dialogue.

Eh. Netcode tends to get made and then it is done. It isn't like a texture, which might get touched up before release. So I would love to hear more.

If that really is the case, though, then why have they withheld revealing characters like Captain Falcon and Ness? Ahh, I don't know what to think about unlockable characters this time around.

Can anyone link me to the 3rd Gematsu leak? It got buried under all the E3 news that this is the first time I'm hearing of it.
