Yu Suzuki's gamelab presentation has a slide with a '3' on it. You know what to do.

Don't take it as an age thing. I was a NES kid, and even when I got a Dreamcast, I was too busy putting hours into PSO to even give Shenmu a second glance.

Suzuki made way, way, way more stuff than Shenmue. In fact, most of his best games came out when you were an "NES kid."

I grew up playing Space Harrier and Outrun and Hang-On and Galaxy Force and so forth.

he was sega's miyamoto with a harder edge.

miyamoto created titles inspired by his childhood, his pets, his gardening hobby, etc, suzuki made games inspired by his love of cars, airplanes, motorbikes, martial arts, and so on.

And his unwavering love for 3D.

Yep, it's pretty obvious that nothing will happens about Shenmue III. It's a dead dream, I mean come on, each year is Shenmue 3 year... since Shenmue 2 got released. It's not happening and it's not making sense business wise.
It wouldn't have to be so ridiculously expensive again.

The massive fan celebration and hype parade all the way to release would possibly create a fuss and make the game turn a decent profit.

That comment makes me feel so old. Yu Suzuki is, in my eyes, the greatest game developer of all time. Bar none. The guy defined my youth.

I feel the same. My youth was largely defined by his arcade games.

Anyway, Yu Suzuki will build a new

It's not happening guys. E3 is over, no reason to announce it now.

I thought the same, but maybe it would be a good game to announce at TGS. Given its heritage and the Japanese disinterest in home consoles at the moment, might be a good announcement to make and give the industry over there a shot in the arm.

Okay, I don't care AT ALL for Shenmue. Like, seriously. Never even played it once in my life. A dead rat is more interesting for me.

But somehow I'm still hyped as fuck.

I am a big fan of the series but seriously this is getting ridiculous. Either announce/release the game/games or stfu. What is the point in continuously disappointing the fans.

I for one don't really care any more. If it gets released, great, if not then just let it die, stop continuously dropping silly hints that turn out to be nothing.

A Gamescom announcement would make a lot more sense than a TGS one.

I was trying to say I grew up with a nintendo, instead of Sega systems and had not played anything he'd made, not "oh man, I've been playing games since the NES and I've never even heard of him!"

Spaghetti likening him to Sega's Miyamoto puts it in perspective.

I think one of the reasons it won't happen is because there would be a need to re-release all the previous games again before releasing III

How hard would it be to port the two Shenmue games in a single package and sell it for 20 or 30 bucks?

Hell, they could even be thrown in with Shenmue III itself.

But his stuff was mainly in the arcades, not necessarily on sega systems. More than likely, you've played lots of stuff by him, but you didn't realize he made it.

a lot of suzuki's early career-defining work was within the arcade space too, even if they eventually got home console ports, so it's not entirely unusual that some dedicated gamers never got to try his stuff.

Shenmue is a brand with die hard fans who I suspect would pay a premium and the potential for a new audience.

If you believe the rumours that Shenmue I and II HD are done and being sat on, Sony cofinancing Shenmue III in return also for exclusivity of I and II on PSN channels with maybe a cut and an ambition to not go nuts design wise with the scale of a third...

Theres money to be made for all if they budget it right.

Even better. Release those rumored HD remasters.

I would love a kickstarter just to see how crazy the fans are for this game. Hell, I know I would try to give over a $100 at least.

I mean, I'm normally extremely dismissive of Shenmue-esque news but... there's not much else you can interpret from this slide. Shenmue font. Slide only has a 3 on it. Presented by Shenmue creator.

Can't think of anything to suggest that this doesn't have anything to do with a third Shenmue, as fairy-tale as that sounds.

For browsers and mobile devices.
There we go, keeping my expectations in check.

Edit: Oh so it was all a "joke"? I'm not a Shenmue fan, but I'm already irritated that people think teasing the existence of an anticipated game could possibly be funny. I would probably be really salty right now, as an actual fan of the franchise.

When I opened this thread and saw the III logo up on the screen

But quickly followed with crippling sadness as it appears to be a some kind of sick joke. YOU'RE TEARING ME APART YU.

It's not just the joke-logo. We could interview him right before the session, this morning. Lovely man, and:

He's ready to do it, he can now improve gameplay via IA, 11 chapters no more (stop at Shenmue 4), he talked with Inafune regarding crowdfunding.

"Well, graphics and sound have progressed very much, but specially the capacity of the CPU treatment has made very much progress, so I think it's the main point now in advance; how can we introduce IA so that the playability of the game can get better."

Clearly this is the slide that begins the third section of his presentation.
Any good presenter knows that breaking it down is a good way to sort a presentation.

As for why he's using the Shenmue font, well, it looks cool.

NeoGAF. Believe.

Huh. I had no idea that even existed. Now I know why though!

Fun fact: This wasn't developed by Sega, nor was it developed for Sega systems. The Sega CD version is a port. It was made by CRI for the FM Towns. It's actually a home port of Strike Fighter, which itself could be considered a spiritual successor to G-Loc, itself a spiritual successor to Afterburner.

To be fair, 11 chapters doesn't mean 11 games. Shenmue II was several chapters long.

Translation:

"With the right enviroment, I would be delighted to make Shenmue III, this is a little joke I made last night"

Troll Level : III.

If that's not him practically begging for Nintendo to pull a Bayonetta with Shenmue, I don't know what is.

I remember "the tower" where you could wander through thousands of rooms and talk to everyone inside. Good ol Sega Saturn Magazine UK supplying that hype

It's like Half-Life 3 in that it could never possibly live up to expectations at this point but nevertheless deserves to be made. If for no other reason than to finish the story.
