I still find it weird/annoying that Fire Emblem is going to have more reps than DK and Metroid.

Especially when the designs can be a bit more varied than the FE ones.

We better. Just look at the breakdown of the series, potentially.

6 Pokémon characters.
5 Mario characters.
5 Zelda characters.
4 Fire Emblem characters.
3 Kirby characters.
3 Kid Icarus characters.
2 Metroid characters.
2 Donkey Kong characters.
2 Mother characters.
Donkey Kong really deserves better. Bigger franchise than all of the series above it save for the top three and unlike Metroid isn't really hurting for potential characters.

Kind of miffed we haven't really seen anything Donkey Kong related so far outside of DK and Diddy either.

Other than Ridley who else can they pick from the Metroid universe, the baby?

As for Donkey Kong, meh I can only see Cranky and Dixie making into the game.

Just you wait until Dixie, King K. Rool, Ridley, and Anthony are revealed.

Seriously, though, thanks to Awakening, FE is at least as popular and relevant today as Donkey Kong, and moreso than Metroid. It makes sense for them to capitalize on Awakening's success.

Also, FE is much bigger in Japan than the US, so coming from a Japanese perspective, it makes sense. But still, I'd like at least one more Metroid and DK rep.

Mario, Luigi, Peach, Bowser, Yoshi, and Rosalina. Also we aren't sure about Wario yet.

They are all Mario characters (doesn't matter if Rosalina, Yoshi, or Wario have different icons, they are Mario characters).

But you are right. It's also part of why I think the roster is going to be bigger than what a lot of people think.

Is he planning on playing Smash 4 competitively?

Most competitive players are going to give smash 4 a chance competitively, probably moreso than we gave Brawl considering it doesn't look like it's actively trying to make it worse.

One competitive player you can guarantee will play smash 4 competitively (As well as Melee, Project M and maybe a bit of Brawl if tournaments exist for that anymore) is Mew2King.

M2K especially is going to spend a fuck tonne of time in smash 4 so he can become the best first and for as long as possible to make as much money as possible.

But a year down the line we'll know whether most people are going to decide to move back to melee and project m or not.

Remember when people thought 10 new characters would be pushing it?

Oh and DK basically surpassed Zelda last gen as far as I'm concerned. It's got better sales and there doesn't seem to be some massive split between the fan base. DK deserves Dixie and K Rool.

I expected Mew2King, but I thought I had read Ken was already anti-Smash 4. I may have made that up.

If Nintendo continues to sponsor evo and/or push their own smash 4 tournaments like the e3 invitational people will play smash 4 competitively even if its worse then Brawl as there will be more money there.

Reducing Mario to "5 characters" seems silly because, series icons aside, Yoshi, Wario, Donkey Kong, and Diddy Kong are all essentially "Mario characters."

Pre dark samus assist trophy I would have said Dark Samus and Ridley, but now I'd go with either Sylux, Ridley or Space Pirate/Weavel in terms of who should be picked.

Hell, I'd take a GF Trooper or an Ing at this point haha.

Yep, I think most will give it a chance. It could be less than Brawl initially though, since many feel they've already been burned once. From there it will just depend on how good the game is.

Agreed. You could sort of make a case for DK and Diddy, but an emblem change doesn't make me think of Yoshi and Wario as completely their own separate series.

He's anti-smash 4 in the way that I'm anti smash 4: Not really at all, he just thinks it has a few problems.

All he's said as far as I'm aware is that he doesn't like current marth because you can't do stuff like 2 fairs in one jump.

You can't do the Ken combo in smash 4, maybe that's why he's salty about Marth, idk.

Ah, okay. Perhaps I'm mixing him up with someone.

Yep. Dixie Kong at least.

Metroid also deserves better, but all the good options are already taken.

EDIT: Wait, 3 Kid Icarus characters?
I'm just operating under the assumption Dark Pit is getting that quick and dirty Lucina treatment.

I'm just going by the game's categorization of the characters. But yes it's even crazier when you throw the others into the mix.

Thanks for all of your support gang. <3

Man you make Smash more than just a game for those of us watching at home. You make it into something incredible as folks play it out. The incredible stuff at the Invitational and all the great moments this season leading through to the climax at EVO. Just so much. Your hype was the fuel that lit the fire for many of us.

Wish you all the best man.

Yeah, I think it's more honest to think of Mario reps in terms of "Mario universe" rather than whether they have the M icon. Way I look at it, if the characters appear in a Mario spinoff like Kart, Tennis, Golf, etc, they're just as much a Mario character as they are anything else. So by that measure, Wario, Yoshi, etc, all add to the Mario brand's presence in Smash Bros.
