didn't IGN give the first one a really high score?

The score was ok but the review was incredibly questionable.

I think Sayter is right. Treehouse could be a form that need to be pushed and used for promoting Bayo 2 more. Of course, you cannot entirely exclude main reviewers, but you can 100% control and manage the streaming of information in effort to educate your audience, hence Treehouse and using people like Saur effectively.

Getting the press to review action games competently is never going to happen. To most reviewers, action games are a series of set pieces that you have to beat people up to get to until the next time the ground starts shaking or a giant boss picks you up and you mash a button to stab his fist until he lets you go.

The idea of getting mainstream reviewers to look at action games like they do fighting games (i.e. in terms of what works in the system and what doesn't) is incredibly unlikely to ever happen.

Completely disagree and from experience you can make a difference to educate these mainstream reviewers. You just got to put the effort in and my fear is that Nintendo's staff (and the PR company that they use) are not truthful to themselves: they are not knowledgeably nor good enough to explain the game fully. This is why I used the EDGE Magazine and Saur as an example. I understand that you definitely cannot do this for all reviewers, but it's imperative to do this correctly to the first and second batch of reviews, because whatever they say will create the domino effort or level that other reviewers will take note of when they are checking out the game. There is actually a specific word for this kind of effect; please help me out, someone. Also, it will help the non-knowledgeable who doesn't know about these types of games and rely on sites like IGN to make their purchase decisions.

EDGE (UK) Magazine, the review sat down with Saur before reviewing the game and his head exploded, hence why he wanted to give a game an 11 out of 10 if it was possible, and that showed in his review.

I want to add that Saur was very critical on EDGE's W101 review. In the site's review page Saur commented excessively explaining the game's system and why the review is full of bull.
Thing is the reviews at EDGE right now are nothing alike those of 2009 when Bayonetta was reviewed and i don't expect a deep system breakdown and a deserving review like the Bayo 1 one.

Why do we care about game journalist opinions?
They are paid to be, at best, apathetic towards this hobby.
Professional reviews have been useless for years.
Wait for GAF or friend feedback. That's all that matters if you're looking for valid opinions.

Reviews influence many people's buying decisions. Favorable reviews generate interest that can boost sales. Negative reviews can leave a niche title like Bayonetta 2 dead in the water. For better or worse (probably worse), devs and publishers take note of review scores. Sometimes employees get bonuses when their game's Metacritic score is high enough, which I think is a problematic practice because of the way Metacritic calculates its scores, and also the broader problem that game reviewers are busy people juggling deadlines, conditions that aren't exactly favorable for peeling back the layers of deep games. When you're under pressure to deliver a coherent overview as quickly as possible, there's no way you're going to have enough time to understand and appreciate a fraction of the complexity and nuanced design that Platinum pack their games with, unless you already know what to look for.

The OT has to say something about Bayonetta's new haircut, not port begging related please :(

Something like | OT | New game. New hair, or maybe New Game. New System. Less hair.

The OT won't be clean of platform bullshit. That's why I think that subtitle is good. And it is also fitting, as Bayo 2 has become the culmination of port-begging and complaining about exclusivity. At list in recent times. There were a lot of Bayo 2 threads since the announcement that were fully routed into a port-begging fest. You just can't separate the two. So why not to acknowledge the fate and put it in the subtitle. It should be pretty clear for anyone trying to port-beg or complain and maybe they won't. Maybe.

But that quote is not even in Bayonetta 2, that i know.

Bayonetta is Platinums best reviewed game though. The 360 version has a 90 average. and the PS3 version has an 87

It's not an unpopular game in the gaming media. The only character action game that managed to score higher than Bayonetta during the last gen was God of War 3. It is the second most like game in its genre to have high review average this generation, the first being a GoW4 due to the popularity of the numbered series.

Without Kamiya's Space Harrier fetish getting in the way, we might be okay! This is why MGR is my favourite Platinum game. I guess you could count the Dwarf Gekko segment as its only extended mini-game, but that felt like a call back to MGS and it played well. All the extra stuff in Bayo 1 and W101 is just crap keeping me from playing the actual good game bits. W101 takes it to insane extremes.

Oh I really hope so... W101 was so frustrating, so many segment I just wanted to end so I could get to the sweet sweet action.

I have to agree. Just wanted to get them over with and they all felt broken to me.The tank stuff never seemed to work right and I don't remember doing much but I passed them so I was happy to get on with it.

Just gets better and better. I think I will have to take a day off of work when I get my hands on this. My most anticipated game this year.

Hey Cole! You won't regret getting one. Get The Wonderful 101!

I bought a Wii U for Bayo 2, but after playing W101 it might as well have been for that game instead. So fucking good, and I'm just getting into a 2nd play through on Hard.

Goddamn I love Platinum.

What's the deal? I'm LTTP.

Wii U Deluxe with New Super Mario Bros U and New Super Luigi U. $260 and free shipping. Came out to $282 from the tax for me. I think it's a fantastic deal, combined with the $40 Nintendoland and Luigi Wii Remote Plus bundle and the $48 Mario Kart 8 on Amazon. If you have Prime shipping, all of that will ring you $348+tax and you'll have your console with 5 games to start you off.

(At least that's what I did. I may have spent too much)

My feeling as well. Although, I wouldn't call the Dwarf Gekko segment an "extended" minigame. You can easily finish it in <15 seconds once you know where to go. Which is why I like the game so much. There's so little bullshit getting in the way (the only part I'd qualify as that is the last encounter before Monsoon. And even then, once you know where to go it's easy enough... It still remains a bit annoying though).

Oh my gosh. lol! It's true though... this guy is spot on about how hot Bayonetta is. The finest "madam" video game character ever created: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QooMP7PKGzQ
