In retrospect, Macklemore is the only rapper with something to say

Are you saying he didn't have a total meltdown and act a fool? A lot of people can't see the forest for the trees in this thread.
This. Who gives a fuck if he actually was or wasn't working for MS, that entire op reads like a childish fanboy post, basically telling everyone to "deal with it" and just stop any and all dialect about the events of last year, TR exclusivity, and Microsoft's actions as a publisher. That goes completely against everything that NeoGAF does best, provide a place for actual discourse on happenings in the industry. He deserves a ban at the very least for that post.

Lol. Didn't Thornton get fined for that?

Welcome to NeoGAF
NeoGAF is a nexus of hardcore gamers, enthusiast press, and video game industry developers and publishers. This is a neutral ground where facts and evidence, presented within the confines of civil, inclusive discourse, prevail through careful moderation.

That's the welcome mat you find when you come to NeoGaf. It's anything but though, and OP had the balls to say it. A lot of members are saying "he's right, I feel the same but I wouldn't have been the one to say so" for fear of banning. Myself included.

I love my Xbox but I don't get into heavy discussion about it though because of what it turns into, and because I like Xbox I'd never win. I'd be a fanboy, despite owning all consoles except PS4 which I'm open to buying given a good reason.

This forum has become too tense and high strung.

Seems to me OP was banned for the content of his post.
Upon placing the ban the e-mail looked suspicious and conclusions were drawn (whether or not they were right or wrong).

Or do we think the mods spend all day checking out e-mail addresses, then checking a users post history, then waiting for a "suitable" post made by the user in order to ban them?

The garbage is too hot to parse. They're both utterly terrible.

I'm telling you guys, I don't know where you're coming up with all this! There was Alien, Aliens, and Alien 3 starring Ripley and Hicks and Bishop and Newt. After that, the trilogy was over! You can't have an Alien 4! I mean, Weyland-Yutani was destroyed by xenomorphs! Unless you just wanted to explore the aliens roaming around the stars or something, you know, some other way.

I don't believe that the only reason for his banning was being related to PR. Has bish stated as such? I can see why he would have gotten banned or juniored based on the behavior.
Well, somebody's been paying attention.

Again, if you want to talk about moderation, shoot me a PM. I won`t bite. Kade, I haven`t seen anything from you yet.

I guess the enthusiast forums and FB pages have become too tense and high strung because GAF is no different than the prevailing opinions out there. The market tells us that as well.

So call persecution, but it's not any different than when SONY or Nintendo or Capcom or anyone else loses favor. And it sure isn't changing overnight.

Initially the thread was only locked. It was reopened and the OP was banned when the PR stuff came out.

It depends, if you say TF is a solid game or Snap is useful for you. No one would argue. If you say the XB1 is unfairly maligned that's a bit more inflammatory. The company did a lot wrong in launching it and the machine compares poorly to it's competitor. A Fair assessment is not the same as a positive one.

Yes, he is clearly saying that everyone in PR has Microsoft as a client. It's so obvious.
Rhetorical question.

I don't believe that the only reason for his banning was being related to PR. Has bish stated as such? I can see why he would have gotten banned or juniored based on the behavior.
On the first page, it was noted his email account is tied to a company domain. Excerpts were then posted describing that company and what it offers. The insinuation is that the person works in PR, and since they defended Xbone and pointed out perceived positives, it must mean they're also been paid by Microsoft. Which I think might be a leap too far.

I'm someone who posts very enthusiastically about the things I like -- so much so that people have accused me of working in PR before. I've been accused of PR for Sony, and for Nintendo, all because I've loved their products in the past. So it concerns me, because I think, "Man, what if I worked for PR? Would people then jump to the conclusion that I'm paid by the people who make the products I like, just because I like them? And would I then be banned, when all I offered was a genuine opinion?"

Hell, it's probably possible to work for Microsoft in PR and hate their product, and post anonymously on message boards in favor of the competition's product.

Nothing can be assumed just because a person works in PR -- especially when PR covers a great many, many, many companies and industries outside the realm of gaming.

I wouldn't ban someone for that. That's an opinion. "A stupid-ass opinion," perhaps, but one nonetheless.

But if he's super aggressive and he might be a PR guy and he was banned up until today, where he was unbanned and unceremoniously acted like this... well... it all adds up, I can see that, yeah.

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.
Really makes you wonder how much of the fanboy bullshit from the PS3/360 era was legit fanboys and not just astroturfing.

Yep, PR software devs probably outnumber PR firm employees by 10:1.

I didn't read anything in this thread but Pavel Datsyuk says he feels better than he has in a long time so I have a good feeling about the Wings this year.

On a side note, what's that GIF from with the soccer player shooting the other soccer player in the head? Looks uncomfortably real.

So you want mods to enforce neutrality and manners amongst the users?

Look, neutral ground means everyone has a shot at expressing themselves, if they do it tastefully and with a tiny bit of diplomacy. You can almost believe or look up to anything and explain why, as long as you aren't inflammatory and venomous. Someone could make a thread about how religion ties into console choice, or if Metroid Prime is the Mona Lisa of videogames. You can post really weird observations or thoughts as long as normal discussion can happen.

You're complaining about a dude getting banned for a really goofy and non diplomatic post. Posting something inflammatory without really having anything to discuss, leads to a ban? SHOCKING.

Nuetral ground doesn't mean sanctuary, if you want to talk where there are more likeminded folks, I get you.

I think you can say what you like here without fear of banning, but you shouldn't expect agreement.

So really, what is going on in this thread?

Did a moderator ban someone by accident and now they're making funny titles to distract from that or what?

because really I don't see what macklemore has to do with gaming, lock the thread or let it die

I agree except on one point. If I were to say, IMO Ryse is the most beautiful console game I've ever seen. I'd get 20 people telling me how KZ looks better, or how SS looks better and is open world, and then the resolution gets brought up and it spirals down from there.

edit: just for clarity, when I say it all spirals down from there I mean, consoles get brought into it, then sales, then the console companies, then personal attacks etc etc.

Oh god, we're back to June 2013.
Microsoft-- Look. I know this all looks bad in the public arena, but this kind of coverage isn't anything like the backlash from the XB1 reveal and E3 2013. If you're going to go astroturfing on forums at least have it try to cover up an actual incident and not a 1-day PR FUDding. It reeks of desperation and people can tell. The situation isn't THAT bad there, surely? Even the biggest GAF pessimist couldn't say things are anywhere near as dire now than back then.
