Just noticed that I had an email with 4 codes for the demo, been in the inbox for the whole weekend. Fail.
Congrats!

I'm still upset with Nintendo not sending me a code because of the email notifications setting. Surely they understand that an actual promotion is not the same thing as the junk mail I opted out of ;__;
I'm sure they also understand that I've now volunteered to receive advertisements from them via email for the rest of my life. :\

If you don't have one, I'll send one your way via PM.

I ended up buying one. I was kinda looking out for one for some friends and family... but with a public version coming Friday anyway, I have to say I'd feel kinda bad if I took you up on the generosity. The rest of Smash Gaf would no doubt appreciate it more. Thank you though!

First off, have we seen this before?

Orange variation of the balloon fight stage.

That's gorgeous! Is it random?

Also, I am now pro with Lv9's in the demo.

Mario's back air off-stage is brutal.

Can't wait to get my hands on ZSS, WFT, Dark Pit, Palutena, Ganondorf, Greninja, and Little Mac.

It's gonna be a fun October.

So I disconnected because I had a quick errand, and Nintendo banned me for a few hours. Guess they're not kidding about people who leave lol.

Kinda glad. Really want them to crack down on people who disconnect a lot.

Wow, so Nintendo really banning because of disconnects and bullying?

Not bad. They are taking Smash seriously.

What is the threshold for bullying and disconnects?

Disconnects, sure.

But bullying? How do you even determine that? I think it was implied that it was targeting one player. Banning the most basic of strategies...

I've never disconnected once ever in any online game. I take my loses like real man or true woman would!

Speaking of this, I just noticed that I haven't received any e-mail from Nintendo since May or so (prior to May 10th I've received Nintendo e-mails regularly for years) and I have no idea why. I have the box checked to receive updates at Club Nintendo, my e-mail is correct and was never changed...anyone know what's up?

And yes, I checked all the folders including the spam one.

Maybe you can use leaf shield as an edgeguard...?

Put leaf shield on --> grab the ledge.

Could most chars still recover from this?
Vertical recovery is absolutely insane in SSB4, so probably. I've tried gimping people with Link's arrows and it never works when they're closer than half-way to the edge.

Bullying seems like it would be really hard for any sort of automated system to detect versus strategic play. I can only see it working in FFAs, and even then if you have a particularly good player in the group it makes sense that player would be the one that tends to be targeted. Which could possibly lead to bullying-related bans.

Yeah, I'm just trying really really hard to make Megaman's leaf shield useful.

So far the best I've got is against chars with weak projectiles it gives you a safe move, but Megaman's buster cancels out most projectiles anyway, so it's not too big a deal.

After playing and watching streams so much the last few days, my online play has improved immensely with lucina. Now I'm going to try and get decent with another character.

It's probably only for FFAs in For Fun mode.

I wonder if there's a way for users to report other players? I imagine if so, that it starts from that, and then the replay gets uploaded for verification. If not, I guess it just checks to see if one player got killed repeatedly by everyone else? But then I have no idea how it would tell that from the player just being bad at the game.

Speaking of replays, is there still a time limit on those?

Ugh, its hard to control what moves you want to do with 3DS' control scheme. I roll with villager, then try to do the boxing punch move by tapping A, but there was still a micro second left of me pressing over to roll, so it registers as a smash move and I use the bowling ball in the direction I was rolling (facing away from the opponent) which resulted in giving the computer enough time to smash me off the stage.

I've a few methods that make the leaf shield useful...
1. You can still use items with the Leaf Shield up. This includes a Metal Blade you have picked up.
2. Activate the Leaf Shield, then grab your opponent, pummel them a couple times, and then throw. This does decent damage.

But yeah, Leaf Shield isn't Mega Man's strongest move.

I hope they don't take a YouTube approach to reports, by banning a player with a report or two. I can imagine a vastly superior player being reported by younger players who are getting pissed off.

I think someone said replays capped at 17 minutes. 18 minutes wouldn't save.

That is fantastic. I was worried they'd cap at 3 minutes like in Brawl.

Yeah, I've been doing these.

I've also found that leaf shield cancels metal blade. It'd probably be a good idea to put it up if they have a metal blade.

It also absolutely tears through weaker projectile spam like pikachu's thundershock and mario's fireballs. It's like the projectile to eat all other projectiles unless they're really strong, honestly. (Samus's charge shot for example.)

The horribly slow startup time hurts the move's potential quite a bit. If it was faster it would be much better.

Sorry, what? Thread moves too fast; can't find what this is in reference to.

Well, just right in the first post of this thread reveals that there is still 16 more characters to unlock into the game. I just know that one of these charcacters are Falco Lombardi and Ness.

God, I cannot wrap my head around pressing a button to jump in a game like this. Like, I know that it's the better option between the two, and I've really tried to get used to it, but while it's a lot easier to shorthop and perform tilts without it, short-hopping feels a lot more intuitive when it comes to jumping off the stage and everything else. It's a disease. @_@

You've gotta give me this, at the very least.

yeah I know, that's why you should just admit that the Lucina color is supposed to be Cordelia :p

Oh lol.... the word "still" made it sound like "in addition to the ones already unlocked."

I saw on a banned site that the Wii U version releases on November 21, which sounds believable. Any other sources to this?
There was a Gaf thread about this rumor too (Probably the same thing? The source on that was a retailer preorder card).

I don't think that source was really anything to jump around over, but I think most people are guessing that date. If they can manage, that's the date they want. And with the 3DS game out already, I don't think the Wii U version is pressed for time. But who knows, could just as possibly be crunch time right now.

So...those with the full game, who's the most used character right now? Obviously, it'll change in the coming weeks with the metagame and all that, but I'm curious who people think is the shit right now.

Also, who seems to have the most potential but is currently underutilized. Y'know like the whole IC situation from Brawl. Kind of brushed under the rug until some guy figured out how to use them effectively. I'm getting the idea that Mac and Rosie are those kinds of characters, but I dunno, haven't watched lots of streams to keep myself fresh for the full game.

Next up, let's go over DK's custom moves!
Donkey Kong's back, and his custom moves are...honestly, compared to Fox and Ganondorf, really underwhelming. He's got some unique options though. I couldn't see too many of these being moves you'd integrate into a normal moveset, but I could see someone perhaps making a custom moveset with one or two of the moves to swap to if they were having some issues defeating an opponent with the normal one.

*snipped custom moves*

Honestly, these are just really underwhelming. I kinda think maybe Sakurai thought DK was OP and didn't give him that great of a variety of custom moves? I donno. But these just aren't very overpowered like some of the other customs seem to be.

Yay for doing this, I figured I'd be waiting longer for someone to get around to DK's custom moves.
Boo for them being as bland as I feared, I'd have taken the ever lambasted DKCR blowing for an alternative Down B over random fire and lightning slaps.
