Joe any chance you could tell me where I'm going wrong surviving? You seem to never die, but I just go flying off the stage all day every day.

Ok, it might be a bit late for this but does anyone have a Smash demo code lying around? I just bought a 3DS today so I want some Smash goodness~

Are you "Vectoring" properly? Keep in mind that when playing online there's some latency so you might need to be "vectoring" well before you actually get hit.

oh if you don't know what vectoring is, just hold the stick in the exact opposite direction you are flying...that should help for starters (going up, hold down, etc.)

Are you VI'ing properly?

mind if I add you 2 to play some time? My FC is 2208-6951-5843
in case you two are interested

Pancakes

hot, steaming, as melted butter slips into the cracks, drizzled with sticky sweet syrup OH GOD
Do we have a friend code sharing thread or are we waiting for release day? I want to play against GAFers but I'm already a month behind on practice.

It's been about two weeks, so here are your updated totals for how many times each character has appeared in Pics of the Day, i.e. how much Sakurai loves or hates your favorite character!

Just as before, some things to keep in mind:

- Characters with (+X) next to their total indicates the number of additional appearances since the last time I did one of these posts

- One pic that is divided into multiple sections (like Pac-Man's taunt or Little Mac's combos) are only counted as one appearance of that character.

- When the same character appears more than once in the same picture, each appearance is counted separately. (So the recent PotDs with all eight of Samus's alt colors counts as eight appearances for Samus!)

- I decided to combine and count all three variations of the Mii Fighters together, since it is quite hard to tell on several occasions which version a Mii Fighter is by just looking at them. Mii Gunner definitely appears the most of the three, though.

- If the same pic appears more than once and was used for different purposes (for example, the Nightmare Wizard pic appears as both a PotD and on the Assist Trophies page), both appearances are counted.

- Even if only an element of a character's moveset is visible in a pic (and not the character itself), that counts as an appearance of that character. (For example, seeing only Pikmin counts as an appearance for Olimar, and seeing only Rush counts as an appearance for Mega Man.)

- Obviously these results are heavily skewed by when characters were revealed (characters revealed later generally rank lower), but there are still some interesting discrepancies... the relative lack of Marth's, Lucario's, and Greninja's appearances, for example!

- I don't guarantee that these results are 100% accurate, but they're pretty darn close!

Here we go:

Mario: 146 (+2)
Link: 89 (+1)
Samus: 86 (+1)
Kirby: 74
Mega Man: 74 (+1)
Villager: 68
Donkey Kong: 60
Pikachu: 58
Bowser: 55 (+1)
Wii Fit Trainer: 55 (+1)
Fox: 54 (+1)
Mii Fighters: 50 (+1)
Luigi: 46 (+1)
Pit: 43
Marth: 37 (+2)
Olimar/Alph & Pikmin: 37 (+4)
Toon Link: 37
Peach: 36
Sonic: 34
King Dedede: 31 (+1)
Yoshi: 31 (+2)
Little Mac: 30 (+1)
Rosalina & Luma: 29
Zelda: 28 (+2)
Diddy Kong: 27 (+2)
Ike: 25 (+3)
Zero Suit Samus: 23
Robin: 21 (+2)
Lucario: 20 (+1)
Charizard: 19 (+1)
Pac-Man: 18

Dammit, I would lose on the last one, wouldn't I?

I-i was just sandbagging! I s-swear!

This is going to sound weird but I am so glad I've finally beaten you, a 2 stock as well since I was losing hope that I'd ever do it. You were like this wall I just couldn't break through.

I don't think I'm ever going to Lucina vs Ness mains again though, the tipper seems too important vs him.

It's not, because you can't reliably land the tipper due to the actions of the opponent. It's also worth considering that the tipper range has been lessened from Brawl.

If you want to K.O him more often, you'll want to switch to Lucina. Her Upsmash will K.O when used against grounded up opponents, which is a huge advantage over Marth's air-Up smash, which only KOs when the opponent is in the air, and only when you land the tipper.

Try Charizard against Master Core maybe? Rock Smash is a boss killer in Brawl, and it probably still is.

I've already done it w/ charizard. I'm just on metaknight now, on my journey to beat classic w/ everyone. You get 5 mins to beat him, I beat him w/ 5 seconds left. Unless metaknight has some magic damage move i'm not aware of, that was rough. Started @ 9.0 and kept dying, finally beat him at 7.0 (it decrements .5 difficulty every time you lose).

I meant it seemed hard with Mac. Saw some streams having issues with Mac since his air game sucks and Master Hand etc. obviously floats.

Just up smash/tilt a lot. I didn't have an issue.

See normally I'd agree with you, but after playing about 50 games with Joe as Lucina and about 10 as Marth I can say from experience that I've found it much better playing as Marth vs him than Lucina. He's a very good player at keepaway and comboing out of PK fires and one of the only reliable ways I found of getting into him was fairs. The fact the tipper of Marth's fair isn't too hard to space in that situation means I was hitting with it nearly every time I was doing it.

Maybe it was a fluke and maybe Joe was tired, but the one game I finally won (not counting out first laggy 2 with makai) I won with Marth :p

Random question: Can you team up with someone over wifi and battle another team that way?
You can only do that in the "Friends" option. One person would have to have everyone added to let them join the room.

Someone with the game would be able to give you a better explanation.

Oh boy, Smashboards finally posted a front page article on vector influence, and the comments section is acting exactly as I imagined...

...and by that I mean it's a complete shitshow! :p

There is a "teams" option under For Glory with anyone, but I'm not sure if you can actually teamup with a friend on it. I don't think you can, but it's possible they can join you through your friends list. If you can't it seems like a massive oversight for the mode. Then again I'm not so sure 2v2 would work so well on nothing but FD.

I've been really enjoying playing with friends today and finally getting to play all the other stages that should be in tournaments. Some of them are questionable (like Brinstar and Mute City, but honestly I don't see what's so bad about them for tournaments), but more stages makes the game a hell of a lot more interesting.

I never tried, but can you bet gold on watching matches between 2 friends?

I don't think you can use spectator mode for anything but random matches. I don't have the game but I don't think they changed spectator mode that much from Brawl. :/

(Someone with the game should figure it out lol)

All the stages in For Glory are Omega Stage - flat without platforms or basically Final Destination - so the 2v2 works fine. I've been doing a lot of 2v2 matches as I don't know anyone else with the game yet. If anyone on GAF wants to play against me, PM me your FC & I'll reply back with mine.
