Is there a list of ever challenge / reward on the Challenges board anywhere?

Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but you unlock the second challenge board by completing the first, right? What happens if I complete a challenge in the second board before I unlock the second board?

Finally, what happens if I use Mario first in Classic mode? I know that playing Classic with Mario unlocks Dr. Mario, but apparently Falco unlocks by beating Classic once. Who takes priority, Doc or Falco?

If it works like board 2 of kid icarus, all challenges you've already done when board 2 unlocks will be marked as completed then and there.

Yeah, it's timed 2 minutes like For Fun modes. Literally terrible.
:/ Why

I don't know how anyone could see this in their "for glory" mode and think it's OK. I'm still mad about there being only flat FD stages in ranked and now I hear this about 2v2

For Fun is two minutes? D:

Should have been at least three.

1v1 FG is an option, right? Being five minutes with stocks is great.

Every online mode in the entire online except 1v1 in For Glory is 2 minutes. For Glory 1v1 is 5 minutes and 2 stocks.

I don't understand why 2 minutes is the "default" rule set for random matches. It's especially baffling for any of the other For Glory modes to be 2 minutes only and no stocks when For Glory was billed as the "competitive" and "ranked" mode of the game. I can understand FFA in For Glory being timed and no stocks, I guess, but teams is really baffling. It almost seems pointless to play teams in comparison, especially because you probably can't join up with a friend for that mode. :/

Teams is practically the same as FFA when it's timed like that...

Too short of a time. The demo is too short and this as a final time kinda blows.

I'll likely spend most time in 1v1 FG anyways.

So 2min no stock is a problem, but 5min 2-stock is acceptable? The 2min matches online have felt like a good amount of time to me, thus far.

Meh, at least we have 1v1 FG and private matches with friends to enjoy.

In my case, I only enjoy timed no stock mode if it was longer, at least 5 minutes. My biggest problem with the demo isn't the lack of stocks, but the fact that I'm unable to adjust the time for a match.

If it was 5 minutes, then sure, no problem for the most part. 2 minutes is so short though.

I imagine the reasoning is that it's not fun if someone loses their stocks and has to sit out whilst the other people play, so the infinite respawns keep them playing. Or some dumb reason like that.

2v2 in for glory is complete shit as a time mode and not stocks, I have no idea why they thought that as in any way a good idea.

I have to say, I'm loving Smash 3DS to death, but I'm really concerned about the online play. Every single match I've played has ranged from having a lot of input lag to a ton of input lag. It can get pretty severe and I'm not exaggerating when I say it often reminds me of Brawl. Obviously crappy online play won't ruin the game (Brawl's online play was the worst and the rest of the game was still amazing), but it would be pretty disappointing in 2014, even from Nintendo (Mario Kart 7, Mario Kart 8, and Kid Icarus: Uprising have mostly fine online play).

I would say I think it's due to me being in SoCal and playing people in Japan, but Smash 3DS doesn't have an option to play domestic or worldwide opponents like so many other online Nintendo games, so even if domestic connections prove to be better, the only way you can choose to play them is to play with domestic friends.

Either way, I'm going to test some domestic online matches with friends tonight... hopefully they go a little better than my international matches have gone.

PM me, Ash. I'm US-based & looking for people to play with.

I have only had slight input lag with folks in Japan. In truth, I have been winning the majority of my matches without my concern.

2 stock 5 minutes is fine because you're likely to be playing for longer than 2 minutes because of the back and forth you have with your opponent. FFA with 2 minutes is comparatively much shorter because there's no intimate interaction going on between the players, it's just chaos and most of the time it'll be over before you can even probably get a fourth KO. It's over before you even realize it and I imagine people would be much happier with something like 3 minutes, at least.

2 stocks 5 minutes is only acceptable because we didn't even think we'd get stocks whatsoever for random matchmaking. I would definitely push for more stocks, personally, because it's random matchmaking. But 2 stocks 5 minutes compared to 2 minutes? It's way better. You're guaranteed a longer match most of the time if both players are of equal or similar skill. From my time watching twitch streamers play in For Glory, average match length exceeds 2 minutes.

It's just not an attractive match length for people who want to play online for a long time. I imagine after the first month, most people are going to be done with For Fun because of how short the matches are and they will either move over to 1v1 For Glory or friends matches. Being limited to 2 minutes is not good. It's better to have more options and it's completely baffling there aren't anymore options for the rule set besides 1v1 For Glory.

so like, I just got the demo and the controls took a little bit to get used to but the game looks pretty phenomenal, the assist trophies at 30 frames per second were pretty noticeable but it didn't bother me at all, I couldn't successfully use Megaman or the Villager since they're new characters they have very different gameplay styles compared to the old crew but I totally wrecked bitches with Pikachu! can't wait for the full game! day one for sure!

I have played roughly 4-5 hours in Japan, against mostly Japanese opponents. I'd say 4/5 of the matches I play have minor to substantial lag. In my experience so far, games without ANY lag are uncommon.

No problems with my internet connection I think. I play other online games (whether on Wii U, PC, Vita, 3DS) without any problems...

It really depends. I have played against suicidal Bowser players who grab, launch off the edge, and get the kill while destroying themselves when the other player drops to 1-stock. I'm guessing the times may be extended on the Wii U game (maybe?) or we'll see a patch that introduces new options for each game mode.

Any chance of it being due to the connection you're playing on?

2 stocks is fine.

I honestly think it's too short to make changes in your play mid game.

2 stocks might be ok for random matches as a DC leads to a ban, but 2 stocks leads to you being on your last stock 50% of the time leading to less possiblle risky play. I lose far too many games purely for taking a gambit and trying to get someone off stage and it completely screws me over as you can then never even risk leaving the stage again or you lose if you mess it up somehow.

3 stocks should certainly be the tournament format. All this talk of 2 stocks is somewhat annoying me. It's just simply not long enough for a Smash game.

God fucking damn it lol

That Air Balloon is so embarrassing in hindsight. So is my play in general in that match.

I figured you thought I was either going to use Earthquake or switch out aerodactyl for azumarill since tyranitar and garchomp threaten aerodactyl with rock attacks. Instead I took a big chance on causing flinch while setting up burn. Luckily you tried to set up your first turn and popped your air balloon, giving me a free hit on the 2nd turn.

Oh yeah, I know the reasoning behind timed matches. I just meant specifically for teams, why would you do that? You're removing what separates teams from FFA by making it timed. You're losing out on sharing stocks and 2v1 situations! I mean, neither of those happen in FFAs (well the latter can happen but it's not the same as teams obviously). :/

Some 3DS matches going on on this stream.

http://www.twitch.tv/clashtournaments

I think they've been showing tournament matches for Melee and Project M most of the day but they're playing Smash Bros. for 3DS right now for some reason.

They probably finished the Melee/PM tournaments for the day.

Wii U will have GAF custom games/lobbies right

I mean...its 2014...

...right?

Noooooope. I don't think they'll be implementing Mario Kart's community feature, unfortunately. It is baffling, to say the least, because you'd think this game would be perfect for it (and it is) yet once again Smash is going to have inferior online options to Mario Kart.

I was watching someone a day or two ago in a tournament, and they still lost a match in the grand finals due to suiciding...ironically going straight down, ironically while using 3-stock match format, ironically on their last stock. The 3-stock format didn't save them from the self-destruct at all, or make them play safer, apparently.

They angrily pointed at their 3DS/3DS XL afterwards so I don't know if a button malfunctioned or what.

Yoooo Luma just KO'd bowser while he was doing a fully charged forward smash on a knocked out Rosalina. Luma OP confirmed.

I made a huge post on smashboards about why I don't like 2 stocks and why 3 stocks is better, it's probably best if I don't get into it again because my feelings are quite set in stone with this.

that was actually the first time I played with 3 stocks, and I actually thought it was fine

My biggest disappointment for smash 3ds is that there is no community thing. Not sure how it works in mario kart (never joined a community), but i'd love it if everyone from neogaf joined the community and if i could hit 'join random community match' or something :/

See normally I'd agree with you, but after playing about 50 games with Joe as Lucina and about 10 as Marth I can say from experience that I've found it much better playing as Marth vs him than Lucina. He's a very good player at keepaway and comboing out of PK fires and one of the only reliable ways I found of getting into him was fairs. The fact the tipper of Marth's fair isn't too hard to space in that situation means I was hitting with it nearly every time I was doing it.

Maybe it was a fluke and maybe Joe was tired, but the one game I finally won (not counting out first laggy 2 with makai) I won with Marth :p

Maybe that's just a result of confirmation bias?

Look at this way:

Marth vs Ness said:

Lucina vs Ness said:

The various N's represent the potential locations Ness could be in. Ness is a fairly mobile character, so it's not unreasonable to assume that he'll dart around the map throughout a given match. Now here's the crux of my argument: Landing a grounded tipper Fmash or Upsmash is fairly difficult in smash IV, because it's range has been shortened and you can't control where your opponent will be. A superior Fair, i'll give you, because Marth is mobile during Fair's, but he stays grounded during Fsmash & Upsmash. You said that Joe was hard to kill, right? This is the reason. Marth's smash moves have very poor knockback without them. Lucina's smashes have knockbackthat is uniform throughout the blade. If you get a mid range, close range hit, tipper, whatever. She'll have access to a reasonably powerful Fsmash regardless of the opponents actions. It's the consistency of her blade that makes her a better pick.

There's a reason why Lucina was chosen over Marth during that locator tournament. She's unarguably better at killing than Marth, and killing is everything in smash IV. Racking up damage is nice, but if you can't score the kills then it's all for naught.

You can only do that in the "Friends" option. One person would have to have everyone added to let them join the room.

Someone with the game would be able to give you a better explanation.

Ah, thanks! Shame you can't battle random teams, hopefully you can at least join a friend online like in MK8.
