Has anyone else tried local, 4 player matches yet? Some co-workers and I got codes and tried to have a play session but the lag was unbearable. All our consoles were updated, and we were sitting within a few feet of each other. We even rotated hosts to no avail.

Has anyone been covering this? We were all planning on picking this up day1, but now we're pretty hesitant. That type of multiplayer functionality isn't something that should change from the demo to final release, and as it stands it's unplayable.

Played 4-player local with the demo at my friend's apartment, and we had a few matches with a ton of lag. I'm guessing a lot of wireless interference because it's an apartment complex. It's still hella lame, though. I kinda wish link cables were still a thing.

That's really weird. I have, and it was flawless. Pretty much like every other local 4P multiplayer game on the 3DS, like MK7.

Sonic with equipment granting him +169 speed and a Smash Run item that ups his Smash Run speed stat to 1000 for a short period of time.
I went fast.
I went damn fast.

That reminds me of pit with 4+ speed brawler claws and light weight in uprising lol. So hilariously fast in free for all online.

We usually gather to play Mario Kart in the same place every day, so we know it wasn't any type of interference. We also went back to MK right after, which played fine.

It was only smash that kept lagging, and it was every match to varying degrees. Sometimes it would hitch for a second every now and then. Other times it would start hitching consistently every 2-3 seconds. The lag also seemed to scale with the number of people in the match. 3 was bad, 4 was horrible.

We were all super hyped to play, but we had to stop because it was so bad. If the final release is like this it's getting traded in very quickly.

has anyone posted that evidently you can't control the rate of items spawning on 3DS other than turning them On/Off?

Did we know this already? I just found out on Reddit. Kind of lame. My friends and I like to play with items on Low from time to time. :/

See this is the kind of stuff that's going to be really stupid if not fixed in the Wii U version. I'm ok with it being out of the 3DS, but if the Wii U version just ends up being an HD port of the 3DS version, which it's looking like, and not addressing this kind of stuff, it's going to be really dissapointing.

Nah just a mutual love since w----s are silly.

No seriously I mean character variety in general. Kinda sick of seeing Shiek, and ZSS winning.

I apologize for repeating myself here, but:
Are you beginning to doubt the frequency switch is there, when it was there at E3 in the Wii U version? Why would they remove that after publicly demonstrating it in a tournament? :p

Why would they remove something that's already there? Are people thinking they will take out E3 Wii U features because of the Ice Climbers thing?

Not particularly varied. For those curious, here's an outfit list:

Brawler:
Martial Artist's Uniform (Ryu/Ken sort of deal)
Kenpo Gi (Kinda Game of Death-esque)
Default Outfit
Powered Suit (Robotic exoskeleton, metal claws)
Protector Suit (Lots of padding, kinda like a football uniform)
Demon's Clothes (Fancy coat with lil wings on the back)
Rider Suit (Jacket, jeans, gloves with spike knuckles)

Swordfighter:
Pirate's Clothes (Piratey coat, cutlass)
Cyber Suit (Kinda Dead Space-ish armor, blue lasery sword)
Ninja's Clothes (Complete with scarf and ninjato)
Default Outfit
Neon Suit (Tron-esque, shiny laser sword)
Warrior's Armor (Samurai armor, katana)
Royal Armor (European-style armor, broadsword)

Gunner:
Western Clothes (Cowboy-ish, weird elongated six-shooter type thing)
Cocktail Suit (Suit, Other M-like arm cannon)
Steampunk Clothes (uh fuck how do i even describe steampunk stuff)
Dragon Armor (Really gaudy dragon-scale armor, dragon head arm cannon)
Default Outfit
Heavy Armor (Thick metallic padding, sorta Mega Buster like cannon)
Sorcerer's Clothes (Hooded robe, magic-y wooden arm cannon)

It's really not all that many, and a lot of more standard outfit types are missing.

seven outfits per character is only one underneath the other mains, I fail to see how that's not many. One thing I was curious about; It seems that DLC is an anticipated thing now (I think, Last I heard Samurai was still mostly against it.). How would people feel about not just character alt dlc, but possibly more sets of custom moves? Would make matchmaking for customs kinda nightmarish unless you force compatability, and then you'd run into the dangerous ground of potentially 'paying' for better moves...

Nah just a mutual love since w----s are silly. Ok here's fire Peach instead then...

No seriously I mean character variety in general. Kinda sick of seeing Shiek, and ZSS winning.

Where did all of these come from exactly?

So it was definitely there in the Wii U version? Awesome. That gives me hope that it will really be better in some ways besides looks.

I can understand ethernet but link cables were objectively shitty

Riiiiight, based on what exactly? The different stages? Smash Run being 3DS exclusive? There's NO indication that it's simply the 3DS version in HD. None AT ALL

Some kid at karaoke had a copy and was playing it through the songs he didn't know. That's about as close as I'm going to get to the real thing for another month I reckon

What kind of 3DS technical limitations would prevent Sakurai from having spawning rates for items? I'm beginning to fear the spawning rates won't be in the Wii U version.

Was that done by in game menu or by debug menu though? Do we know? It was a demo of an unstable and buggy build, it could be that the frequency switch wasn't in game yet. Besides I could see it being a design choice of some kind because, again, I don't see how the 3DS power makes it impossible to have one in that version as well.

Imagine high frequency pokeballs. The 3DS frame rate would start chugging. Wii U will more than likely re-enable this features.

Maybe I'm imagining things, but wasn't the 3DS version forced to one on screen pokéball at a time only? If that's true then pokéballs are a non-issue from that POV.

I don't like Zero's stream to be honest.

Doesn't interact much, barely speaks, just go on doing his thing and too much useless bloat on the screen for my taste. And when he plays, he plays with his head down so the webcam is 100 % useless as well.

Like he's not even trying. It's literally a "Hehe I have Smash early and I'm good so give me money, pce".

I'm a fellow Gaffer, I've been covering Smash too! It's just I work 9 to 5 and usually get to it during the evening, but it would be awesome to get some opinions and feedback from fellow GAF members.

I'm positive the item thing is a technical issue with the very high setting. Look at the party ball, you're lucky to get 3 pieces of food from it, when traditionally it dropped piles of food. I think the items are already at the absolute max the game can allow, so having any additional settings would be negligible in difference of spawn times

485 hours, husband and wife duo
They streamed for a few days afterwards just because they probably felt obligated to do so and then they "went on vacation" and nobody has heard from them since.

It was 8 subscribers to add an hour. They started at 100 hours, so about 7,700 dollars worth of subscribers, and this is ignoring the constant stream of off-Twitch donations they were getting.

They very well could be set for the rest of the year just for playing Mario Kart for 25 days straight (not really, they alternated)

Probably a technical issue (for the higher end of the option). I'm going to assume the Wii U version will have the same settings we know and love.
You don't know what happened to ShowVideoGames?? I'll tell you in a few words:
Cheating, Orgy and Betrayals.

honestly, this is one of the biggest things to bum me out about smash so far. i'm pretty nonchalant when it comes to roster and such, I just like playing the game in whatever formation Sakurai and co. go with.

but not being able to set item frequency really sucks. the spawn rate in the demo (which i assume is the only spawn rate available) is insanely high and makes playing with items intolerable. but, i love playing with items, and have them set on low all of the time.

because i can't do that now, i'll most likely be playing with items off altogether, and that's really disappointing :/
