Forza Horizon 2 · Review Thread

Differentiate?

This is absolute nonsense:

Who would have thought an off-road race wouldn't have a clearly defined route and obstructions to slow you down.

I think Arthur needs to go play Ridge Racer (bumper cars) to get some satisfaction.

I think what Arthur is trying to say is that Forza Horizon 2 does not properly simulate what a racing track painted through forests and winery vineyards is like in real life.

Arthur's review reads like he yearns for Forza Motorsport 3, and the Horizon series just isn't that. It's like reviewing Need for Speed and wondering why it isn't Gran Turismo.

You're a member I'm not :p

I didnt realise I was a member!! I thought I was a junior...

Anyhoo... But yeah amazing deal really. Take off the cost of the game and that's £300 for the console, anyone would be mad to buy the console at £329 w/o a game!

I love this. You trash the review but at least you explain why and don't just come in and say "lolygon" or "lol polygon" like so many unintelligent, immature people in that destiny troubled launch thread.

I completely agree with you, the review is nonsense. I don't follow or read polygon, but I think everyone is entitled to an opinion, I just don't agree with this one at all.

bu bu bu its only 30 fps

should be 2/10 at BEST, 30 fps is UNPLAYABLE

Good reviews. Im not really into racing games but the first Horizon was p cool. If I get an xbone by christmas i'll most definitely be picking this up

Polygon...I feel like they just want to be different all the time. Like they're just looking for clicks. The Last of Us got below an 8 and Forza Horizon got a 6.

So hard to take their review scores seriously when they are so off from my opinion.

There are checkpoints that construct some kind of route, and the rest is up to God. God in this scenario is fickle. Strategies that seem expedient can be sabotaged by terrain that slows you down inadvertently or sends you flying, and the only way to figure it out is to fail

I've never jumped on Gies, and even this makes me..

That doesn't even makes sense. Every open world game I've ever played, no matter the genre, tends to be a learn by mistake/over time sort of game. Every moment can be tense. That's what makes them so intriguing. In the case of FH2, blasting through trees at night for example, it's a heart pounding situation where you know you could fail at any moment.

When you do pull it off...it feels awesome.

But plenty of people from this very forum tell me that they are in Microsoft's pocket and therefore should have given the game a perfect score. Right? Right? :p

Nah. As a guy that was very, very close to getting an XBO off eBay 2 days ago just for this game, Polygon's review had legitimate complaints. It's not all rosy. And I think it's understandable to argue that the game mechanics and it's replayability do not outlast its content. This has always been the Achilles' heel of open-world games: everything is fun the first 5 hours, after that, there is still a lot of content left, but it's a lot of the same.

Still, I think it's the best racer out right now. We shall see how DriveClub fares, as its scope is narrower...

I thought people disliked Polygon for a Microsoft bias but I guess it's just going against the grain on the scores and not rewarding a game what everyone else did.

Can't wait for this game. My only question is did the full game add the auto camera view during post race replays? I noticed the demo had this missing.

It's idiots like him that are why games are so fecking eay these days!! I remember when you overcame a challenge and you got something out of it. Winning all the time feels no different they when you cheat with God mode switched on!

Polygon really are provocateurs when it comes to reviews of highly anticipated games.

Yeah, I think what they wanted is exactly what's going on in this thread. People talking about them. If they would've wrote a good review, they would've gotten lost in the pack. It's fucked up.

i'm not sure how you look at horizon 1 (or 2, based on the demo) and score it a 6 (or 7 in fh2's case) compared to other like games in its genre. thats just insane to me.

So in the same review Polygon says it is too easy but also says that it being open world makes it too hard based on whether you're lucky enough to get through a group of trees when you take a risk?

Which is it?

Would love to know the assists they were using, if the video review comes out and they are clearly using ABS, TCS and STM then you know they are full of crap on the difficulty argument.

Getting through trees shouldn´t be the challenging part in a racing game.

They talking about enemy AI and you know it.

Come on son..

According to Gies in his review it's partly gods fault too.

Also after playing the demo with Pro AI I find it hard to believe it was too easy.

Turn of all the assists, HUD, simulation damage, manual w/ clutch, Unbeatable AI and nor racing line should make this game damn near impossible for most.

Not a review buyt Inside Sim Racing have the first two hours up on their Youtube channel.

If anyone could link them for me I would greatly appreciate it, I'm on my cell at work.

This is really sad if you are being serious. So you only play 90+ games?

i only play 90+ games. but they are games i deem 90+, not some name attached to a website that likely has vastly different tastes in games then i do.

Excellent reviews overall. Very much looking forward to diving in on Tuesday. There will always be one or two people with deviating opinions, as frustrating as it may be. Until I have played the game I can't really weigh in, but I am pretty certain I will end up aligning with the vast majority in really enjoying the game.

Regarding Gies' comments on difficulty.

Difficulty in a Forza game can be adjusted simply by not maxing out your upgrades for your current class. If I'm finding the AI not challenging enough, I'll use a car that isn't so beastly or that I haven't spent hours tuning to perfection . Regardless of any racing game you play, you're only as fast as your vehicle. With Horizon now fully supporting tuning like Forza Motorsport, it should be even easier to tailor.

I personally didn't see there being any problem with the AI being too easy during the demo and I always race with unbeatable AI and no assists, even in Forza 5.

Did it say in the review what difficulty settings they actually used or if they tweaked them at all?

That's the ironic thing about calling the responses to there review embarrassing... Anything article from polygon posted on Neogaf gets the same level of "LOLs" and ridicule. If you want to see something truly embarrassing check out the infamous:SF review thread where everyone calls Sessler a MS Shill...

Anyways great review scores overall... I really enjoyed the demo but I'm truly on the fence about this game so I might just wait till the dust settles a bit as I have no shortage of games to play right now.

Excellent reviews so far. That "saving content" review or whatever the site is called is laughable, though, and I don't just mean the blatant grammar mistakes. It's almost embarrassing reading it, like the kind of stuff HipHop Gamer spews out that makes you wonder why the hype levels have to be cranked to a million for everything.

@Rippenharra I turn off most assists (I drive automatic though) and set drivatars to normal, which is above default, I think.

So I imagine no ABS/TCS/STM, driving line corners only (OFF seems to be impossible for a games reviewer), normal drivatars (how many drivatar difficulties are in this game and where does normal rank? 3rd easiest?)

And back to topic:

Have you all got your tickets for the HYPE TRAIIIIIIIIIIIN?!
