PES 2015 : 1080P 60 FPS on PS4 - 720P 60 FPS on X1

it is quite simply really (though I know we all love a drama)

Don't buy it, I own a X1 and I will protest with my wallet, if nobody buys it then that sends the right message

You buy a weaker console and protest when a game doesn't meet your visual expectations? Surely you did the same when the xbox specs were announced.

Exactly. Apparently not well optimized either.

We have lots of evidence suggesting the days of 720p on XB1 are over. Then this game shows up. I'm inclined to say it's just shoddy work from the dev/engine.

You don't even know how work Fox engine I imagine. What is it the bolded part? A new slogan of MS? Not has sense at all what you said.

Also saying the gap is closing is laughable if you think this shit is bad now just wait until certain games drop. The games that dump the 360 and PS3 are going to be really telling.... Batman AK/Evolve and Unity will give us a good baseline but I think the Witcher III,GTAV and Phantom Pain releases are going to be brutal for the XB1 brand. If half the shit we have heard about the next Mass Effects visuals is true MS better whip out the wallet to avoid that fiasco ..... yea this gen wont last long at all. 3-4 years tops before MS jumps ship, book it.

Wait, whats wrong with GTAV on xbox one? I thought both versions both ran 60fps 1080p?

720p on the XB1 at this point is embarrassing for the developer. At launch it was understandable, but now it's not.

lol at the people celebrating this news.

Agreed not only is the XB1 is an embarrassment to the developers, it's an embarrassment to everyone.

Reads like it's more about the engine design not suiting the XB1 architecture due to ESRAM although I haven't seen a post link specifics yet.

Guess it's like Skyrim engine situation in reverse: IIRC that engine realty didn't run well on PS3 vs 360.

The assets and effects will be much greater on the XB1 than the PS3.

Xbox One is a generational leap over the PS3, even if the PS4 is more powerful. Resolution is typically bottlenecked by bandwidth and textures are limited by the amount of ram and the GPUs texturing ability, both of which are surmountably more abundant over PS3. Its perfectly possible to increase texture quality while also increasing resolution over a last gen console, otherwise you'rer doing it wrong. Just my 2 cents.

Dude, what are you trying to accomplish here? Yes, there is a gap, but 720 on XB1 is not the end all be all. I don't agree with your quite a few titles comment.

The poster I replied to had issues with the game being 720p, and decides to vote
with his wallet by not purchasing the games at such resolution.

I simply pointed out that he will probably end up missing a number of games as the
gen goes on since they will tax the systems more.

Resolution (or rather fillrate as it's resolution combined with framerate) is limited by the framebuffer footprint.

I don't know what to do here, educate myself on the engine and it's compatibility with the XB1 hardware, or stamp my feet at the devs to do better.

not at all, I have a strong PC so I went with what I felt was the better eco system on the consoles (just my opinion)

but 720p is not trying really is it? I have no problem with 900p, I have no problem with the ps4 being the stronger console..

I have a problem when I feel the developers have not put the effort in, I am sure there are plenty of people who will offer reasons why it is like that

But it smacks of not trying, and if I feel that then I wont purchase it

Does 720p upscale better to 1080p than 900p or some other random resolution?

Maybe devs should just stick to 720p and get the best performance. No point beating around the bush, Microsoft under delivered.

Side note, I just played the FIFA 15 and PES demos..

Right now id say PES looks and feels better.

But idk if there were improvements in FIFA's final build

This may be a case of the engine being highly unoptimized or incompatible with the game on XB1.

I fear for the next Bethesda game really.

You know they work 2+ years on these games if they wouldnt be trying you wouldnt be able to play it.
If it doesnt run well on one console while it works on another i dont think the devs are at fault.

You're right, It's both MS and Konami's fault. All I'm saying is that xbox owners should see stuff like this coming because of the hardware.
We already have. But when we see games like destiny and Diablo doing 1080 both of which look far more impressive what should we think? Is say Konami is more at fault here.

looks pretty impressive to me.

FIFA-vs-PES-look-alike.jpg

That's the difference I remember. I was confused at all the FIFA > PES posts in the thread.

Getting full realtime lighting from the Bone at 60FPS is always going to be a tall order I think, because of the large framebuffer that's required.

You should probably get a job at GameStop to make sure people know what's up. "Sir, do you realize the PS4 is more powerful? Sir!"

I don't know what to do here, educate myself on the engine and it's compatibility with the XB1 hardware, or stamp my feet at the devs to do better.

Or we could stop trying to find excuses for the developer and their engine. Let's just see how long it takes for another high profile XB1 game to come in at 720p. It would make sense to excuse the developer/engine if lots of games were having this problem. They're not.

You are pulling this out of thin air. The ESRAM and lower specs across the board on XBO mean that any engines reliant on deferred rendering or other heavy processing techniques such as lighting model and particle shading systems will max out at 720p or 900p (as seen in Ryse) due to limited frame-buffer size.

Resolution is not everything. Both systems can handle 1080p fill-rate but once you apply lighting passes, material shaders, physics, etc. the XBO will lose performance well before the PS4 does under standard circumstances, so dropping resolution to alleviate resources and maintain frame-rate and the same visual effects on both is the only real solution.

If they both run exact same resolution and same exact effects, then you are getting something that is running under "parity", which literally means that regardless of which system is more powerful the publisher or console companies are asking for you to show an "even playing field". So, this comes at the expense of under-utilizing the more powerful system.
