Shadow of Mordor DF Face-Off

GPU in PS4 is running lower clock than normal cards and Jaguar dual cpu combo doesnt require more than 20W.

But even high end PCs on Maxwell and i7 Haswell rarely go over 300W under max load.
I really need to upgrade to an Intel my amd is a fucking furnace.

DF have downplayed differences between consoles and PC many times in the past. Not surprising to see them trying to brush 60fps under the carpet since the PC is the only platform which can enable this.
I'll take that over AA. Motion blur will most likely be fixed since it's in the option menu.

If it was 59 fps it would be worth writing an entire article about.

I'm pretty impressed with DFs analysis this time around.

This is now one of the few games where we know pretty exactly for each console the equivalent PC settings used:
Code:
	     | PS4 | XB1
Resolution | 1080 | 900
Vegetation | medium | low
Textures | high | high
LOD distance | medium | medium
Shadows | high | medium
AO | high | high
With the highest PC option being ultra for most of those. It would be interesting to do benchmarks at PS4 and XB1 equivalent settings.

Oh wow, it's nice to actually finally know equivalent settings in a game. Where is the code from though?

it's funny that such an ugly looking game cant run easier.

many ps3 games look better than this.

I really want to see those games. And mentioning a few is not enough when you literally say "many".

is the ps4 really that much more advanced than xbone or is this partialy a case of developers making ps4 the lead platform?

When most other third party games have shown similar differences? Yeah, it really is that much more advanced.

The GPU, RAM, and architecture are clearly better, based solely on specs. We've known this since before launch. The first wave of games demonstrates this difference in real performance.

Still, PS4 is somewhere around current mid-range PCs, and does not come anywhere close to high end PC GPUs and CPUs. The gap will become staggering in the next few years, as current high end GPUs become midrange and high end is replaced by such redonculous cards as the 380x.

Well this proves that I am mostly blind to 30fps/60fps.

It's the judder that I notice, like in Second Son.

im okay with 900 vs 1080.

900p in BF4 on PS4 looks pretty awful on my display though. Never again.

These are hilariously bad for next-gen consoles. Especially when you consider that a $100 GPU can out do them in terms of visual quality and resolution:

My big takeaway is the consoles are already using some PC Medium settings. I was optimistically hoping they'd at least be able to stay equal to PC HIgh for a little longer, but oh well.

Those screens you quoted look hilariously bad for PC too. The game looks like absolute shit on all three platforms.

Sure, but how many games do you really think are going to be built around those specs? Unless your only goal is going to be 120fps and 4K resolutions it doesn't seem likely many PC games are going to do much with all that power.

I don't think they look terrible. Partly the landscape is supposed to be dark and ugly. However I don't think it looks as good as some are making it out to be.

Someone said it was proof that next-gen was finally here, a beautiful game. I can't agree. Visually it's ok looking but not more impressive than some other open world games in the last few years.

It plays well though. Fun game.

That's why we have highly scalable engines that can run on anything from the weakest system to the strongest, demonstrating vast visual differences across the entire range, with switchable settings such as tessellation (on/off).

There's no reason to hammer it over the head when it's an obvious differentiator. Of course, on the PC, whether you can hit 60 fps or not is going to vary per machine. Achieving a rock solid 60 fps with this game does take some hardware muscle.

I know what you mean but, when talking about a sandbox game, it's still a huge improvement over last generation. Right out of the gate last gen open world games were running at sub-30 fps with loads of tearing on consoles. The fact that the sandbox games released thus far across the new consoles have delivered rock solid frame-rates makes a HUGE difference.
.

EXACTLY

go check out the original Saints Row on 360. It's disgusting from a performance perspective

I don't mind having extra power to play every game downsampled. Even if they don't use the power, I'll gladly upgrade my PC.

It's always amusing when people take a single game and attempt to make grand statements from it. You have no idea how well optimized this engine is on these consoles.

The real test of these consoles is the exclusives, and we've already seen some pretty crazy things out of both, and next year looks like it's going to provide even better results.

I don't think anyone expects devs to completely tailor their tech around such niche of the market, but the power in those GPUs will be put to good use in terms of IQ. You might say it's scant reward for so much horsepower but that's 100% fine by me, resolution is extremely important in my view and considering the bickering among console only gamers they seem to value that as well.
And of course some games already include some very high-end features, sometimes exclusive to PC, sometimes prettier versions of PS4/XBO effects.

Wow I didn't know a gpu was all you needed to play games on pc. Can you link me to this magical Gpu?

This:

was the sentence you quoted, so i don't see what it has to do with a Titan.

You showed me that a $100 GPU can run outperform a PS4 on a $600 CPU with 16GB of RAM on a MoBo that costs as much as a PS4. Then you showed me that a $50 CPU can do the same using a $550 GPU.

Consoles are hardware compromises. PC gaming will outperform consoles always, but right now the consoles do an adequate job considering their price.

Absolute shit? It's not a stunner, but I think that's some hyperbole right there. The game can look pretty nice at times. They do the "bleak wasteland" thing really well.

Is this example of a 750 ti + OC'd quad-core AMD CPU alright?

Mostly stays above 40 FPS at 1080 high settings (slightly above PS4), while taking a few FPS hit from recording.

As a PS3 only owner for first 3 years since 2007, I felt the pain of owning inferior ports. Xbone owners shouldn't have to go through that.
PS3 was because of its complex architecture and limited main RAM, X1 has neither issues.

Of course it could get a lot nicer in the environments later on. I already quit because it's yet another Ubisoft bar filling game with A for awesome button combat. And yes I know Ubisoft didn't make it. Coulda fooled me.
