Media Create Sales: Week 41, 2014 (Oct 06 - Oct 12)

Funny you say this, but I fucking hope that NCL aren't daft enough to ignore WiiU games for their next platform. Having them available for both handheld(s) and console must happen, in some form or another.

Smash U will be the test.

That could make some sense.

Yeah, but for nearly every other product demand falls through the floor when a new model is introduced...
Here they dipped a bit before going back up...

Haha, this may be the most likely reason :D

one week before
Fat DS: 47,462

launch week:
Fat DS: 49,118
DS Lite: 68,438

I think it's an appropriate comparison: The fat DS sales increased when the system was being replaced by a more expensive model that was supply constrained on its launch.

Ok, that doesn't tell me anything. And it says "2" on the box, not "2.5", so what is 2.5? A revisions? A "G" version?

It's like pokemon, you have 2 versions (eg. diamond pearl) then you get a spinoff one (platinum) except in youkai watch games they are not just carbon copies of each other but with different monsters, the story & the quests you do change between versions.

The the youkai watch 2 games are ganso & honke the one i listed in the pic is shinuchi the 3rd version.

Out of curiosity, what caused the 3DS to be so high last year?

The N3DS results are great, but I'm just surprised that last year was pretty close.

Wait. A new YW2, Smash n3DSXL bundle, Pokemon and final fantasy still to come out by year's end?

3ds is wrecking shit.

Someone needs to tell Nintendo we are already halfway through October... Those are quite a few heavy hitters they have yet to drop.

Pokemon and MH4 aftermath, iirc.

Sony should at least have managed to make games like MH and YW multiplats, by not doing that they pretty much gave up. 3DS having those franchises as exclusives in addition to all their own franchises like Pokemon is just too much,

Damn. That Monster Hunter. Wow.

So we've got three million sellers in Japan this year? Yo-Kai Watch 2, Smash Bros., and Monster Hunter 4G.
The original Youkai Watch game came out last year has sold 970k this year and should reach 1 mil. Pokemon OR/AS and Youkai Watch 2 Shinuchi will also reach a mil.

So 6 games this year :)

I think that's highly unlikely given the launch schedule of the New 3DS.

I do think there will be a new handheld from Nintendo in 2016 however.

2015 will be interesting. n3DS can't possibly do much to stop 3DS' decline in the west, but a new console would be a bad idea in Japan.

Nice numbers all around (vita...), but 75 % drop for kingdom heart probably means that it will end up at around 150k. Have the series always been so front-loaded?

Will be interesting to see whether the white edition PS4 has shifted PS4 sales to a new equilibrium or whether it is just a short term shift from the 6-8k trend we have been seeing.

The 3DS sales breakdown is downright bizarre. The old 3DS managed to sell the same amount it did the previous week, while the New 3DS sales exploded at the same time. >20k isn't an insignificant number either, so... why would anyone not buy a New 3DS considering the pricing? Very odd.

Great number for the n-3DS and not at all surprising.

I think wondering what Sony can do with the Vita is a moot point. What they needed was MH and they lost that awhile ago. It still has a ton of great software releases in it's future because it's still #2 in Japan and can move 400k boxes if the game is right.

PS4 tho. *worried face*

Holy crap at those Monster Hunter sales!

Capcom could probably create colored versions like Pokemon featuring different monsters, and rake in even more money.

Great numbers for Nintendo
apart for the WiiU :(
White PS4 effect. Sick Vita. Definitely dead X1.

Pokemon was released just a month after MH4. The system was on high momentum during this period. It didn't carry over quite as well into the holidays though.

Interesting. Must be why DS Lite launch sales were so poor.

I'd love to know how much of the reason is the target audience.

Pokemon X/Y launch.

Pokemon and MH4 aftermath, iirc.

Well, Smash hit in September, MH4 and N3ds in October, Pokemon in November, alongside Smash bundle, FFexplorer and YW2.5 in December. I think they are planning the release in a good way.

Pokemon release

good catch.

mmmmm...
I don't think that Smash Bros 3DS will reach 3 millions that easily, especially in 2014. could continue selling for months, even outside the charts, but I can't see it beating that milestone within year's end.
YW could reach that, if it's able to keep selling after the announcement of the "2.5" edition. MH4 too should sell like hotcakes from now on to double its debut within the end of the year.
What about Pokemon ORAS?

Some parents (or kids) don't really care much about 3DS to be newer model or so.
Also, I was so wrong about ratio between normal and LL model (I was expecting it to be reverse).

I still think DSiLL / 3DSLL / n3DSLL is kinda bulky to handle, but it looks like obviously I'm the minority, at least in Japan :p

2015 will be PS4's year but im not Exactly sure what Japan will do with big AAA games on PS4 like Bloodborne, FF etc...

Nintendo cant even breach the market with their big console titles

Im not sure what to expect other than looking at the people still rocking PS3 and may be waiting for that one big game to jump on board with.

Bloodborne might be the first one of those games and its coming up quick

Yup. It'd be like Sony (or MS) having FIFA, GTA, AssCreed and CoD as exclusives in the west. Everyone else might as well pack up and go home.

My guess is that there were retailer discounts on the old 3DS's, from retailers trying to clear out old stock.

I frequent all the Japanese blogs and sites daily and haven't noticed anything.

KH 2.5HD on the other hand seemed to have a pretty big price drop some places.

Expected higher for 3ds to be honest.

Sales of LL indicate that a home/portable hybrid would do very well even at a large size.

It's worth noting that LL model never supports faceplate swapping function, and still outdid normal model by quite a large margin.

There is no competition. Its so lopsided

Its actually quite amazing that Vita has carved a nice little space for itself to sell 100k + units of software in this environment

You would think Mobile and 3ds are the only boxers in the ring

Thanks. Seems it did about as good as 4 then. Kinda thought it would surpass it.

Those numbers for Kingdom Hearts are bad, right?

Yes. compared to 1.5 second week it's 50k behind. And once again concidering the platform of choice was quite likely to get Japanese sales. Western sales will probably see even more drastic drop. You don't release a PS3 game in the second holiday season of new gen.

edit: 1.5 second week:

09./02. [PS3] Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX <RPG> (Square Enix) {2013.03.14} (¥6.980) - 29.401 / 157.815 (-77%)
