This is the kind of statement that makes it impossible for me to associate with either side in this ongoing clusterfuck. Vavra might well be an ass (I don't know), but I'm very sure he does not represent an "existential threat" to you. My advice: if you would stop laying on the melodrama so thick that it overshadows any reasonable point you want to make, more people might start listening to you.
He turned into an ass the the precoess of this gamergate stuff :/
But yes, he is not actvely threatening people or anything. He just has a conservatice opinion.
When the "movement" is actively sending out death and bomb threats to people and forcing good folks out of the industry entirely, yes, I do consider that a real, legitimate threat and consider anyone supporting that crap to be, if not complicit, then at least
negligent on the matter and in need of serious reeducation.
Edit: And while we're at it, seriously, Durante, I expect better of you. Referring to this whole thing as "melodrama" is beyond insulting to the women who have
actually been pushed out of their homes because of this shit, not to mention the people
leaving the industry entirely just to avoid it. At that point it ceases to be "melodrama" and becomes
drama, with actual people undergoing very real consequences from the actions of reactionary people doing very horrible things.
As someone who's firmly anti-GG, there's a lot more people behind a game then just one dude. While I feel it's a totally legit opinion to want to avoid a game due to the director's politics and opinions, I personally find it hard to rationalize that to myself when it's a group of different people and not just one person by themselves to boycott a game specifically over my distaste for a dev.
Same thing with Amikrog and the whole Doug TenNapel situation awhile back, though I feel that one was way more unfair since it was over several year-old homophobic comments and attitude he'd repeatedly acknowledged and apologized for in a Jim Sterling-like manner.
I should note that I'm not even one of the people boycotting the game; I am just defending their reasoning for doing so.
The whole thing is so damn ugly it boggles my mind how people can see "sides" in something this obvious. If one "side" consists of people simply
defending themselves and the other "side" is actively trying to curtail progress and throwing out death threats left and right it becomes less an issue of politics and more an issue of "where the hell did your senses go!?"
