Splatoon singleplayer campaign announced

The trailer put all my worries about the single player to rest. Now the game looks like unadulterated fun. I am so glad Nintendo still embraces the wacky.

Yeh the multiplayer had me pretty impressed but I dont play multi on my Wii U much and was thinking singleplayer probably wouldnt be very exciting but that did look really really good. Has a real Jet Grind Radio vibe in terms of weirdness and audio, the actual gameplay looks really cool too. It is a surprising take on shooter genre in terms of mechanics. For some reason I still find it hard to picture as a Nintendo game, it looks like something I would expect from Sega during the Dreamcast era.

Not disappointed though, looks great.

I think Im now actually more excited for this game than ZeldaU. The gameplay mechanic of splatting a course up the side of a structure and stealthily sneaking up on baddies in a pool of paint looks like it could have so many possibilities.

I haven´t watched the whole trailer, but what I´ve seen gave me vibes of Portal 2 mixed with Super Mario Sunshine. It also looks like the coolest possible evolution on the wall merge mechanic from A Link Between Worlds.

I´m sold on the game already :)))

It actually might be even better. You have the pointing with the gyro, and adjust it with the analog. You might have a disadvantage by going Wiimotes only.

When I tried the game at Gamescom using the right analog for quick moves or turns and the gyro for aiming worked perfectly for me. From this trailer I get the impression that the gyro aiming might be very helpful in the SP too.

I said it already, but I feel the impulse of saying it again, this being a combination of shooter and 3D puzzle platformer looks so perfect, like taking the best from all these worlds. I like the effort put into constructing the story around the campaign with the enemies and propaganda and all.

It seems like Inklings will be highly customizable, somehow similar with the Miis including clothes.

And as someone said earlier, this is really like a child's fantasy play, like some kids playing in real world by their own imagined rules with their own imagined characters.

Now we're talking. I wasn't interested at all in a pure MP game on a Nintendo device, but if its SP content is good, which that trailer makes it look, sign me up.

This is easily my most anticipated game of 2015. I am in love with this game's art style, it's so colorful and full of life.

Everything I have seen from this game so far hasn't left me disappointed or second guessing myself. I need this squid ink injected into my veins.

this trailer was awesome. the best thing they showed yesterday. every doubt I had was blown away.
It seems to have platforming elements, environment puzzles and boss battles.
the artstyle is growing on me, especially because of the "filters" and the "background" I saw.
great

Hope they take difficulty into consideration for us older gamers (non 10 years) or they advertise it properly as such.

Official account just tweeted this:

イカ研究所からの調査報告だ。 これは「ヒーロースーツ」。ヒーローモードで主人公が身につけるものだ。いつもの服とは雰囲気が違う。一説によれば、ホタルイカをイメージしてデザインされているらしい。そこかしこに散りばめられた青白い光が美しい。

Investigation Report from the Squid Research Lab. This is the 'Hero Suit'. It is worn by the protagonist in 'Hero Mode'. It has a different feel to the regular clothes. According to our theory, it is designed to resemble a fire fly squid. The glowing translucent lights covering it are beautiful.

Does the music for the trailer confirm that the woman who composed JSR who wanted to work on this game is working on it, or is that just my imagination? It sounds so JSR.

Going off the maps in the propaganda, it seems like single player levels take place in huge orbs, covered with screens on the interior.

Dope.

Looks awesome. I wasn't going to comment, but then I watched the trailer at 60fps. It makes such a difference! So gorgeous.

With the SP confirmed it's now grabbed my attention.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
It seems I can't display 60fps videos on YT, don't know why, though :( Is there a link to download the 60fps trailer?

Gorgeous, but yes.

Game wishes it had the image quality and clarity of this.

Got to play the game for the first time at PAX AU, if ever so briefly, and had a great time.

Looking closely it's very low on polygons for the environment, I honestly don't see a reason why that wouldn't work on the Wii U.

I believe you can only do it in Chrome. (And it's apparently only the link in the OP which was posted by the Japanese Nintendo site, not the videos posted by the other regions.)

In the drop down menu where you can select the resolution, it'll actually say 720p60 HD (instead of the normal 720p HD).

This game looks so FRESH!
unbelievably lovable but cool design and artwork plus gameplay extravaganza plus hillarious music.
If it turns out to be as great as it look now, I wish this to have all the success possible.

SO question.... is it not possible visuals have been updated since you last played? Have we seen the best of Wii U 2 years in? Is it not possible with this artstyle that they are able to pull off those shots. I mean Nintendo is not usually a bullshot type of company. Not suggesting anything these are serious questions.

While I agree Nintendo don't normally do bullshots, the E3 press kit screenshots were in 4k. Something the final game very clearly isn't going to be. They have done bullshots for this game before.

EDIT: Apparently it was 1440p. Point still stands though.

Holy shit, I might not even need a new Mario Galaxy after that :D

Anyone found the game overall looking a lot darker that in the multiplayer vids ? Is it just me ?

The anti-aliasing is just too good. The number of polygons is just one aspects of the graphics. I'd be extremely surprised if it looked like this on the console.

I know, but whenever I choose 720p 60fps, the video lags terribly, it must be my PC being so weak it can't support 60fps videos on YouTube, don't know.

I don't know much about AA since I usually play with it off but I do see a Moiré effect in the distance (to the right of the right totem pole).

I wonder if they do super high res bullshots for the magazines that want a screenshot as the page background.

Finally my computer is accepting the 60fps video

The one thing i dont like about Splatoon is that it looks almost too good

Looking closely it's very low on polygons for the environment, I honestly don't see a reason why that wouldn't work on the Wii U.

Basically, the lack of almost any aliasing, and filtering on some of the textures is beyond what we've seen any other 720p60fps game on Wii U do so far. I do think the assets are true to what will be in the game, but I think the shots have effects on them beyond what the game actually looks like.

However, it does appear that there's been a decent upgrade on it since E3 (E3 left, today right):

The newer image has Twitter compression, but you can see it's improved - particularly the surrounding city.

Even if the shots are bullshots (and they almost certainly are in my opinion), stages like this are still going to look cool.

Is there any place I can download the trailer? I mean the source video.

I want to take some screenshots and the quality on Youtube is not the best :\

This looks really fantastic! I think I have to get a Wii U.... Smash, Mario Kart, new Zelda, Bayonetta and now this? Very tempting.

Yeah, I was eventually going to buy a Wii-U anyway, but seeing Splatoon and reading the reviews for Bayonetta make me want to drive to Walmart right now and pick one up.

The first track from the reveal trailer I could've believed was from Naganuma (it's not, though), but honestly the new one doesn't sound like his work at all imo. It's much less structured and more frantic than anything I've heard from him, not to say he's not capable of making something like that, I just see no indication that it could've been his. I don't think he'll be working on the game, and though it would've been nice, I think that's fine because I've really enjoyed the music I've heard thus far.

I assume there's no detailed info about how exactly we progress in the single player campaign, am I right?

is it mission based or more adventure-like? (like Luigi's Mansion 2)
is there a story to it?
are levels specific or are they randomly generated?
is there some sort of collecthaton or anything enticing playthroughs?

regardless, SO glad they didn't attach the Mario brand to this like they once thought.

I'm digging the weapon designs.

The weapons are fairly generic rifts on the classic weapons.

The only one that is remotely very different is the melee weapon since it's a huge ass roller and thus has a much bigger hit box than your typical melee weapons. What makes the weapon balance more interesting (even if the weapons are pedestrian for FPS's) is the fact that each weapon has a certain impact in gaining more territory.

Sniper rifles usually are rage inducing but from the E3 video their biggest drawback is that you can't paint territory practically with it. Meanwhile that melee weapon I mentioned earlier has no cool down and is easily the most efficient territory taker...

...as long as you aren't retaking territory that is being contested and don't mind that you can't hit vertical walls.
