At least he's going out in a ball of fire instead of being hog mild, putting up stances that intentionally allow for backpeddling and repeating "facts" long enough that they somehow become correct in his mind. Like those Halo 4 sales that he constantly overstates by 100k.

I'd argue Microsoft's aggressive pricing could take away some of the PS4's selling momentum. But we'll have to see if that actually turns out to be the case.

Hey I'm all for it. MS being second place have them pulling all the stops to get some traction. The thing is, how long can they maintain this? $349 with a game looks good for the consumers, but what about their investors? I think MS needs to do something more (first party games - loved Sunset Overdrive btw.) Don't think Sony is going to rest on their laurels as well, their 2015 line up is looking stacked as it is. Then we come to Wii U, with Nintendo saying they have higher preorder numbers on Smash than MK8 is saying something. Overall, this holiday is gonna be sooooooooo expensive.

Well I guess that's that. Jesus man, it's like he lives in a different world where everything he hears (er... reads?) gets completely distorted into something it wasn't.

anyway, so... while we're here.

Where DOES GAF think the Xbox One will settle at the end of the year sold-through to consumers? What number are we looking for on December 31?

I think without Aqua and Cream we're going to be struggling to find out anything, more's the pity.

NPD threads will become a battleground. Blood will be shed. Neither side will give any ground. Larry Hyrb's bathroom mirror messages will be as poignant as "In Flanders Field" and Bish will have a statue erected in his honour.

This thread seems rather hostile. Insults being thrown around all over the place.

Hopefully all three companies do well this holiday. I imagine the bundles will sell well and make November and December exciting in regards to sales.

It did for the bundles that you could preorder because they didn't ship till after the pricedrop. Like the COD Bundles..

Oh thanks. I vaguely remembered it happening but didn't pay too much attention.

Can't wait for November NPD.

Xbox One was the number 1 platform in the US
for holding up pallets of PS4s

What are they at now? Last we knew it was like 7.3 shipped in September.

I'm gonna say 8,5m sold too customers by that time

Would be nice to know actual sales right now to customers but we haven't heard a number like that in awhile

I'll guess 18m sold for Ps4 with 20m shipped or so

RIP.

Man tomorrow is gonna be fun. November NPD is going to be a bloodbath for sure. The anticipation is making some users commit account suicide already.

Aw man. According to my unnamed sources Hindle is no longer with us.

Assuming trends as shared by our Bestbuy region source are correct, maybe the two upcoming NPD months are going to be very unfortunate timings for the Xbone again. (In the context of winning a month.)

Because the very early rush on the $50 price drop was still within the October NPD period, while it allegedly didn't hold that momentum throughout the full two week period as their PR implies.

The big rush was split in two periods, something that if you're concerned about quarters doesn't matter, but something that if you're concerned about individual month PR victories does.

I would've thought with 10 years of doing NPD's on GAF, someone with a statistics degree or lotsa time to burn, would've come up with a model predicting sales within 80-90% confidence intervals and tested said model now. Is there nobody on GAF that knows basic statitical analysis, seriously??

Honestly I think the Xbox One will do quite well this holiday season in the US between the strength of its bundles and price.

If you have a weaker system that costs more or the same, it's a hard sell. If it costs $70 less on Black Friday and even has an addition $30 to $50 gift card at Walmart and Target, that's a lot more competitive.

I'm still completely shocked that Sony has all but given up their competitive advantage.

Never would have expected that.

I don't think MS can ever go back from the $350 after this holiday. They say it's only a temporary price cut but that's hard to believe, personally. Their deals, especially the Black Friday ones, are pretty legit though. I hadn't seriously considering picking up an XBone until now. Stupid Insomniac.

I feel like Nintendo is gonna struggle hard though. Smash is coming out and that's nice but the XBone is nearly the same fucking price as the WiiU. That's not even remotely reasonable considering the future prospects of these two consoles. Maybe I'm underestimating Smash but the other current gen deals seem so much more compelling.

Doesn't seem like they did that yet though. What you can fault them for is not reinforcing it.

And to be fair, Microsoft is shattering a lot of preconceived notion what it means to be competitive. Even for "Microsoft buys their way to victory"-people. :p

Yeah.. There's a weird timing on their price cut/bundle deals.. I would think that the limited SO Bundles are what pushed the system, but the current CoD: AW and Unity Bundles are just sitting there waiting for Black Friday to be actually picked up by consumers..

You have to recognize that Microsoft has effectively tanked the price of their console and bundled so much shit with every Xbox One they sell that its actually insane. And its still not demolishing the PS4.

Doesn't surprise me. PS4 has been trouncing XBO, so Sony probably expects they throw in two games with PS4, and the preference people have toward the platform will make up most of the difference. And in doing that, they can churn out a higher profit, which Sony desperately needs.

I'm pretty sure their calculation is going to cost them at least November though, maybe December too.

I agree. I sales are as strong throughout the holidays as I think they are, no way they go back up to $399.99.

Dropping your prices just to maintain pricing leadership is very risky move.

Besides, the reality is that if you ignore the power difference, XB1 has been a better value console ever since they had a Forza 5 bundle at 399, yet that did nothing to quell the fact that a PS4 at 399 with no games sold better.

The "Terrible Value" Destiny bundle sold extremely well at 450, even when MS had a two game bundle for 399 for that launch week.
