Microsoft: Xbox One leading sales in US since price cut, nearly 10 million sold-in

Why would Sony drop there system by $100 when they selling at good speed.
Now is not the right time to play price drop card when they out selling them 2 to 1 WW.
Along with having a million lead in the US.

I'm not saying they had any reason too.

I wanted them to for purely selfish reasons.

ME WANT!

I do like the Sony bundle with GTA V and the TLOU.

Kind of sad though that a new system is basically being bundled with remastered last gen games. Many games this year have been a bit lackluster.

anyway, so... while we're here.

Where DOES GAF think the Xbox One will settle at the end of the year sold-through to consumers? What number are we looking for on December 31?

Worldwide I'm assuming?

If what MS says is true, and they have just now reached 10 mil to retailers, I'm assuming they got to 10 mil by channel stuffing, getting ready for Black Friday....

10.2 million for Dec 31st sold through.

De-valued? If anything it increased the value proposition to me. Do you speak for all informed consumers?

He does. Microsoft actions have devalued the value of the console, which is probably why Sony isn't going balls in right now with the free game bundling and price drops.

All informed consumers will not buy a Xbox One unless it is at the current price or cheaper. Microsoft has set a precedent for what their console is worth and now cannot backpeddle.

Microsoft has to win this Holiday with all the awesome deals. Glad to see them being extremely aggressive.

Damn at the Major Nelson Twitter quote

Lose this holiday in the US or Workdwide?
Why lower the price of your product when the demand is so high? Sony will make more (lose less) at $400 than at $350 by reacting to Microsoft. Sony will probably still out sell the xbox 1 worldwide this holiday season.

Just meant US. I'm fairly certain Sony had the rest of the world wrapped up.

Especially when NA matter so much less to Sony than it does to MS. I might be off, but MS could outsell the PS4 2 to 1 in NA for the rest of this gen and they'd still never catch up. People need to understand this.
People don't care about world wide sales if they can brag about US sales

The insanity ensues,

A guy on youtube, I wont mention any names, willingly said he knew about the price drop to $350 but wanted to pay the extra $100 cause he didnt care.

His exact words, that he didnt care, how does that make sense.

These console fanbases are getting insane.

and M$ is going with the good ol buzz word of "Shipped" again but didnt actually state that in the article...then their fanbase is going to say OH THE GAP IS CLOSING GUYS ITS CLOSING...FASTEST SELLING CONSOLE EVER

For november PS4 is competing with their bundles and black friday deals (PS+ promos). Multiplats still go in their favor but i'm curious to see how sales of cod and dragon age are split. Far Cry 4 is probably gonna lean towards PS4 as well. So i guess we'll find out really how big price difference matters in terms of value proposition.

I think in December momentum swings their way again with the PS event.

It very well should have.

But I guess others are right that demolishing MS in their hometown was a happy accident to Sony, more than the firm gameplan.

I knew MS would have to drop One's price by June, which they did, but I figured Sony would not let price parity happen for more than a few months. When price parity and then undercutting said price wasn't having the effect MS wanted I started to waiver on that assertion, but still hoped.

Sony isn't concerned as you are about winning.

Lol. Why did Hindle go on a complete meltdown?

I'm not saying they had any reason too.

I wanted them to for purely selfish reasons.

Your selfish reason doesn't make any rational business sense though.

Price drops are the elixir, the megaton, the sharpest tip of the spear to add momentum to your sales.

Sony isn't really facing difficulties selling right now. The longer they can hold the value of 399, the bigger the impact will be when the drop happens for real.

There's a reason why the 349 move by MS is risky in the long run. Because it devalues future price drops. Value perception is a real thing, which is why Sony can afford to not bundle a game at 399 and still outsell 399 Xb1 with Forza or Madden.

what exactly are you correcting?

what the fuck is so misleading about this? They have clearly said SOLD to RETAIL. Also clearly stated Two weeks. So please explain yourself.

edit

just saw Major's tweet. lol carry on guys. That is indeed bullshit.

Ah you didn't see that. My apologies too.

I though the holidays were also September and October......
actually I didn't but I was getting the impression those months counted as the holidays given certain PR and general comments on Gaf - which is a ridiculous notion to me anyway.

Selling the PS4 with the 2 best games possible included is giving up your competitive advantage?

The Ps4 is bundled with freakin GTAV. That is going to sell like hotcskes for as long as it runs. And then it has The Last of Us for good measure . That's a damn fine deal.

This. They just need to make sure they have enough of them available.

Bish.

What's ironic is how on a neutral gaming forum, (as stated on the main page) that we have you as a mod who is openly bias.

Now that's hilarious.

I'm still completely shocked that Sony has all but given up their competitive advantage.

Never would have expected that.

It's too early to claim that. Lets see how things play out. It would be stupid for Sony to quickly react to MS without knowing just how much sales are going to be affected. Which according to Abdiel, it's not

Typical price drop sales boost then things slow down. If they start outselling PS4 every month then Sony should do something. But we all know that's not going to happen. They might win Nov but does anybody really think it's going to be by 200K?

I'd wager 8.5 million units is the highest they can expect. Realistically I expect around 7.8-8 million units.
Ha! I think some of yall are seriously underestimating the X1.

I think there was an estimated 7.5 or so shipped at the end of September, most of that is probabally sold by now, and X1 should easily hit 2M WW for Nov+Dec sales leaving it at around 9.5M maybe a bit more if they are aggressive in territories outside the US.

I bet 10M by end of the year is a big goal for them...

a fool and his money etc.

Most likely the extra went to the retailer anyway.

I really don't think winning the holiday means much unless they do it by a good amount.
After all they did winning by something like 100k just don't seem that good .
Since the system loss so much value in eyes of consumers and Sony not done anything yet.

A retailer would not order 2m units if they did not think they were going to sell.

This may be hard for you to understand, but MS, Sony, Nintendo are always in discussions with the major retailers, especially for the critical holiday period.

Not like it matters now that the banhammer has hit, but yes it does matter since I've seen this opinion toted repeatedly.
There is a big difference if your 2m units sit on shelves for 2 months stale like they did all spring.
Vs your competition could sell 5 million over the same period. It matters alot
Next thing you know retailers are telling you they can't sell them unless they are 100 dollars cheaper. Profits circle drain

IIRC best estimates put the Xbone at 6-6.5 sold with those 7.5m shipped to the end of september. There aint no way in all shit they sold 1m+ in October WW. I be surprised if they sold 500k.

They're playing it smart IMO. It shows that they are confident that they have the better console on the market (not arrogant, because they're still doing free games, but confident).

I still think Microsoft may be recouping the $50 price loss through accessories. I guess from a business standpoint, having a $25 charge kit and $25 headphone adapters, gives them some breathing room. That's $50 bucks right there

In addition to all the other scorn this post is getting, let me add that a person cannot be bias. They can be unbiased, like Bish, or biased, like you.

Another way to think about it - you are not ban. You are banned.

Last time people did math X1 was around 5.5 million sold WW.
Lets say they sell 500k WW for OCT and that is being really nice to them .
They would need to sell 4 million consoles in 2 months and that is not happening with how there WW sales are.

Not when there is third party headphones and charging station.
Does anyone know how much it cost to manufacture and ship an xbox one?

Their job is to make a compelling product that sells, not mislead people like MajorNelson is trying to do. No one needs your permission to decry something like that tweet.

Actually Major Nelsons job is to mislead people in legally safe ways. MS and Sony's job is to turn X money into X+1 money any mostly legal way they can.

Microsoft made folks scoff, and Hindle flew off the handle.

I don't have (that much of a) problem with Hindle's optimistic views of MS, but he does say some pretty terrible things at times.

Implying other people's incompetence without attempting to actually talk things out with people.
Disregard some people's opinions by placing a negative label/association on said people. (tbf, we kinda do this to him as well, though he tends to be more extreme)
Cheerleading for Square to fuck up their games so that Eidos can be bought over by MS.
Talking about 'predictions, sales stats, etc' without doing due diligence. And when prodded on his opinion, he says lol predictions despite constantly reiterating that position without strong basis.
