Some Playstation Experience games and developers announced

Well, in the last couple of years Japan Studios have developed Puppeteer, Gravity Rush (and Knack), as well as co-developed a bunch of games like Rain, Freedom Wars, Soul Sacrifice, Tokyo Jungle and soon Bloodborne. I'd say that's a shit load more reliable and consistent than anything Square have output in the best part of a decade.

Haha, that's why they're teaming up with From to make Bloodborne, right?

It's not about reliability and consistency. It's about what matters.

FFVII matters more than anything that Japan Studio has ever made.

You'd bet if they were given an opportunity to jump on that ship they would.

I'd rather Kitase concentrate on FFXVI. Get back in the director's chair, pull Ito in as battle designer/co-director to take some of the pressure off, work with Nojima & Naora again (hell, get Naora to do character designs as Nomura is so busy), and limit Toriyama to event director or something with a tight leash.

Wasting all of that time, money, & talent on a remake does not sit well with me. Would I be excited? Sure- I love FFVII, but I'd much rather see something new & despite the XIII mess I'm still convinced Kitase can headline another legendary FF.

Waste of time? Sure, they would not be developing something new.

But waste of money? Are you serious? They'll have to go reaally overboard with their budget to actually lose money in a project like this. This is probably the remake that is guaranteed to sell the most millions.

That being said, it's not happening people, c'mon. The remake will come one day, but most definitely not now.

Purely from an internal development perspective, Japan Studio isn't all that great. A creative bunch, no doubt, but aside from Team Ico(Ueda) and Team Gravity(Toyama), the rest of Japan Studio internal doesn't seem to have the 'extra umpph' that captures the imaginations of fans.

But their external development are promising. And frankly, as long as they're working with the right external partners to develop content for the PS4, it doesn't really matter if it's not built in-house.

Because without Sony's financing of said games, those devs... would be making 3DS or mobile games instead.

I really wish Media.Vision & tri-Ace are given an opportunity to flex their muscles in developing console titles.

They gotta get back with Pyramid and make more Patapon quality stuff.

So FFVII being produced seventeen years ago and being one of the greatest games ever is totally representative of the SE of today, right? Great logic. Got it.

We need to wait a bit to see if the restructuring under the lead of ex-Santa Monica leadership will bring better game output.

It's not about how good the game will be. I literally said it's not about reliability or consistency. Read, man.

Even if it stinks it'll sell loads. That's what matters at the end of the day.

When did he say this?

This is what he said the most recently
It's not going to happen. Stahp it already guys.

im not talking about this interview.

It was from an french interview in 2008. Most of the Links are broken tough/dont work anymore (Kotaku)

But this is what he said

During an interview for French TV program, "Next Gen", on French TV channel MCM, Yoshinori Kitase, producer of the Final Fantasy series, said that he is hoping to do a Final Fantasy VII remake after XIII and Versus XIII.

He said "Every day I wake up and the project is moving slowly, although it is still at the stage of reflection."

There was even a neogaf thread in 2008 about this

My feelings are that if a remake were to work well then all the core members of the original team must be reassembled, all the artists and designers.

The problem is that, although all of us have an idea of what a remake should be and how to do it, organising such a thing right now is logistically very difficult. All the different members are now involved in very new, very large projects like Final Fantasy XIII and those projects are going to take a while.

Maybe, when all those games are finished then we can look at doing something like that.

Of course, that said we came up with the idea for Crisis Core in just two days. It was a case of 'this is what we want to do, so let's do it'. So, you can definitely expect the probability of something spontaneous happening at some point, but it's hard to predict.

What he said back then is irrelevant. His view and Square Enix management have changed since then. That's why I brought up his latest opinion about FFVII remake.

This FFVII conversation shouldn't happen anymore. It's more like a fan's daydream at this point and it starts to derail this thread quite a bit.

If you think Final Fantasy VII Remake is little else, then you're right.

;)

Right?

Please people, the dream is dead.

SE is working on Kingdom Hearts III, Final Fantasy XV, ARR, and who knows what the situation is with DQXI and if it's outsourced or not?

They won't work on FFVII, a project as large as Final Fantasy XV if not larger, and just announce it here before their next mainline game hits in 2016.

Please.

Well, they announced FF XIII, Agito and Versus XIII. It wouldn't be unprecedented.
I'm not expecting it to be there, but not for the reasons you mentioned.

Agito was mobile.

And the other two was just plain stupid on their end.

Now, imagine that x3 if they have FFVII remake announced.

His opininion is irrelevant because he obviously cant talk about the game (if they are working on a Remake)

Do you expect him to say ? Yeah we are working on a Remake right now.

His answers make sense. A FF7 Remake would be his lifetime project and take a lot of him.

I believe in Verednus Words, who saw it with his own eyes!

Oh, I agree it would be stupid, but I wouldn't put it past Square.
I want them to announce FF VIIR when the game is a year away form launching anyways, so unless they have been secretly working on the game for years, I don't want to see it either.

I honestly can't even imagine the amount of money it would take to transfer a game of FFVII's size/scope to a modern/AAA project. It's absolutely mind-boggling to me & I just can't imagine them making it back, especially with JRPGs being in a down-trend WW in the past 10 years or so.

I guess we'll find out with FFXV, but I'll be surprised if that game's scope is anywhere near comparable to FFVII.

Japan Studio helped with Demons Souls last gen, thats more then enough. Not enough credit is given to Takeshi Kajii I think for his work with Miyazaki on the title. Truly groundbreaking stuff I think and they seemed to get along well together according to interviews they did.

Japan Studio also made Siren Blood Curse, the best survival horror game of the gen.

Still curious as to what the heck SNK is doing there. They usually announce new fighting games at Japanese arcade shows so surely it can't be KOFXIV.

Metal Slug for Ps4 and Vita. New announcement for a fighter would be great tho.

A port of a 14 year old game seems like hardly a good reason to invite them but oh well.

It seems like they're trying to make a very high quality version of it

With that in mind, SNK PLAYMORE is very pleased to announce together with SCEA 3rd Party Productions today that Metal Slug 3 will be coming to PS4, PS3, and PS Vita this Winter.

In aiming for some of the highest-level quality NEOGEO emulation seen on PSN yet, coupled with a set of online features for PlayStation gamers, we look forward to releasing the most highly revered title in the Metal Slug series together with PlayStation in the coming months.

Well, we know what Sony are like when it comes to funding IPs they don't own - it doesn't happen. Of course if the stars aligned and it did happen I'm sure Sony would gladly pay for this as it would be a strong exclusive, but I also think the way the company is at the moment they'd rather focus that money inwards, and as I said before, I don't believe in SE's capabilities as a developer to do the original game justice with a remake.

It's a very good version of Metal Slug 3

But I'd want another KoF anyway. They did say they're making one so it definitely is coming. I don't think it'll be at the Playstation Event though

On November 26th, Sony Japan will host a livestream on Nico Nico focusing on White Knight Chronicles II, which is now available in Japan as part of the PlayStation Plus offering.
The livestream will be hosted by Producer Kentaro Motomura and Promoter Yasuhiro Kitao, and will come with an exceptional guest: Level-5 President Akihiro Hino.
According to the description, he’ll share development stories on the game and there will be plenty time to chat.
It’s definitely interesting for a high-profile executive like Hino-san to be present on what seems to be a routine broadcast. There have been rumors floating around that Level-5 is working on something for PS4. Could this be a signal of brewing news?
Of course it could be simply a courtesy call to talk about the old times, but some hint might be dropped, or we could at least hear more about Wonder Flick.

Source dualshocker.

No one's talking about Morpheus. Anyone expecting anything? Or even excited about it?

Yeah I am. Even though I think it may be an "indie darling" as I think that the device is going to see it's most innovative uses in indie games. Because they're more likely to take risks and also because their games are more likely to run on Morpheus well.

As we get closer I think the hype will get unbearable as we could see some amazing things or maybe not much at all.

I'm willing to bet that this event will be pretty good as I think Sony would want to wrestle some momentum back their way. At the moment it seems that MS has most of the PR mindshare. The timing just before Christmas is perfect.
