did ni no kuni even sell well?
really hoping for dark cloud 3 instead...

i'd rather get a new ip than ni no kuni 2

Eh, I hope it just comes out before 2015 ends. Need momentum on that front bad.

PS2 Classics in general seem to be a thing which never really took off. It's pretty weird. The selection is really limited and missing a ton of obvious classics from every publisher, including first party titles!

Hopefully VC's big sales open some eyes that oldschool JRPG backlogs can bring in money.

I really hope it isn't Yokai Watch related. Those games look like trash on 3DS from what I've seen. I'd prefer a new IP personally... or a reboot of Rogue Galaxy that's basically an animu take on Mass Effect.

Get that fucking E3 hype machine running Hino.

Give me Dark Cloud 3, Rogue Galaxy 2 or Yokai Watch (i cry everytim I think about what it could've been) for the PS4 or give me nothing.
A new IP is also cool

Adam Boyes I know you're watching this topic, if you want the PS4 to be sort of relevant in Japan I'd secure games like YW on your console. DQ is a very good start though. (I know you're from SCEA but pass this message to your colleague in Japan :lol)

It would have to be something with much wider appeal than YW to be at E3.

About fucking time. Sony's finally taking Japan seriously with PS4.

More like Japanese third parties are.
We already have SE / Konami / Bamco / Sega / KT / Capcom on board. Not to mention about mid-sized publishers. Among big pubs we sere missing L5 but not anymore.

That depends if they announce Dragon's Dogma 2 as a PS4 exclusive..,well actually DD is not that huge of an i.p but the first sold well in Japan.

Yeah it did very well in Japan, from the wiki:

The game sold 331,064 copies during its first week on sale in Japan, including 302,040 for the PlayStation 3 and 29,024 for the Xbox 360,[25] making it the fastest-selling new IP of the previous console generation; as of June 4, 2012, sales for the PlayStation 3 version increased to 418,210 units sold in Japan.

So in 7 Months we learn what we won't we be able to play for 5 years?

Just because a game is being announced doesn't imply it's hasn't been development for quite some time.

Besides there is very little indicative of Level 5's works to claim they make an announcement for a game that doesn't come out years later, so I really don't see what sort point you were trying to make with this.

This pretty much confirms a new Dark Cloud / Dark Chronicle game.

Sony registered the Dark Chronicle trademark back in March. Didn't Akihiro Hino also hint at a new Dark Cloud game a couple of months back?

Will drop pants for Dark Cloud. They could take all the town building features to the next level

from what they could do on PS2.

The only bad thing i can think that is coming out from these news is that L5 are probably not working on DQXI with SE. I would have liked to see another collaboration with them especially since everything is hinting that DQXI will be on consoles.

To be honest, unless they keep Hino well away from the writing and game design, I am going to be skeptical. While I liked White Knight Chronicles, it is a deeply, deeply flawed pair of games. What cool setting and gameplay concepts they had were ruined by horrible execution and mismanagement. And Gundam AGE's absolutely terrible writing does little to encourage any faith in Hino.

I think Level-5 can do excellent work, but their strengths definitely lie in visual design, setting concepts, and gameplay concepts. If they can partner with someone who can help them with writing and game design work, they can probably make something incredible.

So I will be cautiously optimistic, at least until we know more details about the project.

A sequel to the best PS2 game (DC2) would make me buy a PS4 in a second, hell thinking about it thats probably the only first party game that would sell me the system.

Level 5 doesn't have any other game with wider appeal than YW. It would be a huge get for Sony, the franchise is already bigger than FF in Japan and looks like it could challenge DQ and MH even.
