Star Wars The Force Awakens Trailer

I love the shot of the Falcon because it's filmed just like you'd shoot the Falcon in space (by following it's orientation and not the environment's) except it's in the atmosphere so it's dizzying and disorienting and thrilling.

Storm Troopers after 30+ years? What? I do not understand this....why would they do this still using something that should have been disbanded long ago because the Emperor died. Give me something new JJ or i hope you have a good story reason to do this.

Am i the only person who feels disheartened by this clip

do not like the camera work, It doesn't feel like star wars to me and its making me worried we're in for another CGI festival

That's exactly what makes it great. None of that static Lucas camera work.

They built life size Falcon and X-Wing props. Have you seen the couple behind the scenes vids they released? All of that was practical props, no CGI(iirc). And Abrams already came out and said he was gonna limit the CGI use.

im totally able to block out the prequels, dunno bout you

they dont even come to mind anymore when I watch this

well, episode III was not that bad..But before that there are no other movies.

It is the mediocre EP III and then just all the way up until EP VI. for me at least.

I love the trailer. except for the first moment..that head popping up was so comedy..

Hmm... I always throught The Empire was some kind of space racist thing

I thought it was a deliberate decision that every (or almost every) Imperial seen in the OT was an old white human man. Maybe this was intended as a subconscious thing for the audience's benefit rather than there actually being no non-white or alien Imperials, though.

Then again, it's 30 years later and they might not be able to be as selective with their recruitment these days.

What? Are you seriously trying to make the case that greater than 1% of people that have seen Star Wars have read the books?!

Are you insane?!

You said 1% "of star wars fans" "even know the books exist"

Now you've changed that to 1% "of people that have seen Star Wars movies" "Have read the books"

Talk about goalpost moving.

Maybe it's not a crossguard, maybe it's a vent to make his swings hit harder by shooting out flames.

I guess that would only be practical against people that block lol.

to everyone going all "herp derp lol i'd just cut off your cross guard with my lightsaber"

what if it's not 2 additional little mini blades but the blade is emitted from a single crystal, splitting into the hilt parts on demand. ... if you cut into the hilt then, you might not be able to cut through the guard, but possibly just break it's ability to deactivate the crossguard

sorry for the badly iPad-drawn illustration

Or what if the saber its "overclocked" if you see the trailer carefully it looks like the saber its unstable.

LucasArts and JJ Abrams just shot themselves in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about Jedi culture (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in conventional culture where you can become successful by being an asshole. If you screw someone over in the Jedi world, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is Star Wars fans, after hearing about the light sabre hilt in the new trailer, are not going to want to purchase movie tickets for The Force Awakens, nor will they purchase any tickets for future Star Wars movies. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but LucasArts and JJ Abrams have alienated an entire market with this move.

LucasArts and JJ Abrams, publicly apologize and cancel The Force Awakens or you can kiss your business goodbye.

Dig'd:

Ships

Didn't dig as much:

Lamesaber
Ball droid
cockpit

Not hyped, but will watch nonetheless. Can't be worse than pre-quels (right?!?!)

I'm not sure what you mean? How would it feel like Star Wars? If it looked like a movie filmed in the late 70s?

I don't associate that type of camera work with star wars. Its come straight of a computer. I find it disheartening as there was a lot of talk of being faithful and using models as much as possible
