Star Wars The Force Awakens Trailer

Eh. Seems my concerns about JJ are maybe coming true. That being his focus on original trilogy designs and world. I know this like 30 years after Return but I want a completely different world not x-wings, stromtroopers and the Millennium Falcon. I have seen that for years, so this is the time to make a statement of your star wars.
With that said this is still a teaser so any number of things I complained about are a small part of the film.

Also i love that people are upset people are complaining about the "unpractical" lightsaber when there are 3 hours videos dissecting the prequels.

I think the new lightsaber is interesting, but the implementation of this idea seems strange. Why isn't the handguard just light? Or can this material deflect a lightsaber attack?

Because then you'd still cut your damn hand if you'd let the thing slide down your hands too far.

The hilt guard isn't just the guard oncoming attacks. It also is a stopping point for your own hands.

Initially, but I've read here and there from official sources that the thinking is: as the Empire continued to grind along, they needed people so badly they just kinda let anyone who was game in.

Alternately: he's a spy of some sort who infultrated the Empire on behalf of the good guys for some purpose.

The shot of those X-wings flying over the lake is the most insane thing ever. Someone hold me...

Also, did anyone else laugh when Boyega's head popped up? Was that supposed to be funny?
I liked the goofiness of that. That may be the most telling thing about the trailer. As soon as that happened, it just felt like OG Star Wars.

Best thing about this trailer is that they don't show the old dudes and the only old reference is the Falcon.

If they have a major role on the film I'm going to be disappointed.

I want new stories and people, not a ton of nostalgic callbacks.

I don't understand this, having main characters in sequels = nostalgia? I understand they are not the main characters of this trilogy but if they were it would work like any sequel, new stories with characters we love.

I want good new stories and if it involves my favorite movie characters of all time the better.

Has there ever been a non-white Imperial throughout any of the movies? The Rebels were the multi-ethnic group. The Empire was the stereotypical British white bad guys.

EDIT: Looks like people are already talking about this, haha.

If that spoiler is real, that's dumb. Shows that they didn't realize what was really wrong with the prequels between that and the lightsaber.

as someone who has studied the history and culture of lightsabers for many years, the only problematic aspect of the 'light claymore' is the z-angle of the hilts. the crystalline matrix of the focusing crystals, as described in the novel Inferno (pp 215), would require a more acute angle of plasma ejection.

now i realize some may argue that this is no longer canon, however we are talking about matters of science and physics, not plot or narrative, and it shouldn't be handwaved away.

hilt guy is driver fo sho

the thing that really blows my mind about these films beyond the actual fiction is Driver being an unknown a couple years ago and suddenly going from Girls to being disguised as a fucking sith with a lightsaber walking on a forest all badass

fucking shit man, i'd be skipping to work losing my mind

30 years really doesn't seem like that long in the SW universe.

Look at how long some battle ships and fighter planes serve for. All the X-Wings and Tie Fighters are just going to magically disappear?

I thought the trailer was fairly awesome. I love the CG aesthetics in this compared to the prequels (and they're still early too). I think the Lightmore looks better in the shot than it did when I was imagining it (and I like that the light itself isn't very clean).

That said, I'm not sure which part of this is more entertaining, the trailer itself or laughing at the hyperbolic right-wing racists driven to distraction by the first shot.

I'm so hyped for this.

Not much to go on fro now, but

1) Dat new X-Wing shot. So good.

2) Ball droid looks cool, but I highly doubt it's the 'new R2' like some say; I'm guessing we'll see him in that shot and nothing more.

3) If the impracticality of the hilt bothers you... get a blaster.

I just watched the final Light Saber battle from Episode 3... jesus christ on a stick I forgot how shitty Hayden Christensen was in the first three films.....

Some of the worst dialogue delivery I've ever heard.

Something about poetry and shit.

Weren't all the troopers clones of Fett, who himself was not white?

Combined, so 5 million a book.

Less than 1% confirmed.

Your original argument (well, your second argument I guess because you changed it when you realized what you were arguing was dumb) was that less than 1% of people who have seen the Star Wars movies (a number you have set at one billion) have read the Star Wars books. Your argument was not that a single Star Wars book has been read by 1% of the people than have seen the entire Star Wars trilogy. That's ridiculous. Please stop changing your argument.

I found it pretty cool that they chose some not very common actors like Daisy and Boyega. But why exactly them of all people? Just wondering. According to IMDB Daisy has only done some episodes in some TV shows and is in a movie that is in post-production.

I'm intrigued after watching that, though not really hyped. Still feeling cautiously optimistic, but leaning more towards caution.

Seems like a good mix of old and new to me.

A big complaint about the prequels was they didn't look enough like the original trilogy.

They had the best auditions?

The script was shit, so of course the dialogue was going to be shit too.

Hell, I busted out laughing when Ewan McGregor said that Anakin killed "younglings".

The whole experience was shit. Thank god we can look forward to the new trilogy.

Is there a reason those concept art pictures are considered spoilers?

To me a picture would be a spoiler if it showed someone (whose face was easily identifiable) killing someone else (whose face was also easily identifiable).

The concept art I saw is just a bunch of cool hand-drawn set pieces, vehicles, and characters.

Cause they're cheap and inexperienced enough to sign multi picture deals for a pittance.
