Hmm.. Aside from the incredible stupid "rule of cool" lightsaber, I just don't think the teaser was all that exciting. Everything about it felt very last minute, like a hodgepodge of random giffable scenes sewn together. Nothing escalated or made sense in sequence.

Bizarre teaser.
You've just described every Star Wars teaser ever.

Go look at the Episodes I, II and III teasers. That's what they are.

This shot was so hype.

Also Ridley's bike design design was rad

That really does make me kind of sad to be honest.

As someone who's only really gotten into the "core" things plus the Jedi Knight games I'm not overly sad to see it all go in favor of a blank canvas for more movies. That being said, I totally get peoples' love for the expanded stuff and can see why just tossing it all out would be hard on them.

Regular crossguard? No. A laser crossguard? If you sneeze you are going to cut your thumb/fingers off. It'd be like replacing a cross guard with two steak knives.

This same logic can apply to almost every other lightsaber variant. DM's double-sided lightsaber especially.

If anything, you can interpret the added danger as a way for the user to attain a high level of discipline.

Again

If you're going to slice your own hand off with your own lightsaber, you probably shouldn't be a Jedi.

Darth Maul's double ended lightsaber was considerably more "hope I don't cut my own head off" and he did fine.

The question is who do you guys think the bad guy is about to fight?
Spoilers for That already...

Cant ne said enough : If You aggregate the rumors freely available you get 80% of the movie s plot.
Every shot in the trailer validates the rumors. Even the absence of rumors about certain characters is validated.

Evidently using props and filming outdoor broke the mystery box.
Disney put some serious money on security which is the sole reason we don t have a full plot already.
To be clearer. The only things we don t know is what requires intensive CG. Even stuff filmed behind closed doors has leaked somewhat.

They may borrow from existing expanded universe stuff but only Clone Wars, Rebels and the six films are officially cannon now.

"To put it succinctly, as of April 25, 2014, the six Star Wars films and Star Wars: The Clone Wars are now the core canon, and new additions created from here on out will all be canonical, managed by the Star Wars story group. Previous EU stories are Legends."

Shadow of Revan is to be released in December and it isn't coming out under the Legends banner. The new books and Marvel comics are also canon.

I honestly think the way it's all jittering and pulsing is simply meant to look like an intentional updating of the sabers from ANH, which were just scratched/drawn onto the screen and didn't look all "perfect baton" like the Prequel sabers.
.

That's actually what I thought. It looked like what I imagined them to actually be like, looking past the original visual effects. The popping and hissing sound effects always evoked this sort of thing. Like, if they had better technology in 1977 this might be what they would have made them look like.

Robert Kirkman of all people pointed out something interesting that I totally didn't notice

@RobertKirkman

My favorite thing about the #sw7 trailer aside from everything is that no shots actually took place in space. Neat choice.

seriously.

i don't think there's any character in movie history that's more clearly deceased than Anakin skywalker.

He's been "almost killed" in Episode 3, his head's been fried by the Emperor's force lightning, he took his last breath when Luke carried him into the Imperial shuttle and his body was BURNT ON A BONFIRE.

also, his spirit is standing right next to Obiwan and Yoda.
You don't come back from being a freaking ghost :p

Loved the introduction to the characters. So much teaser with that opening. The guy really sold the fear of the unknown and immanent danger. I'm in.

Yessir.

I feel like JJ understood what people who love Star Wars loved about the original films. The daunting, cold, overwhelming odds against the good guys. The looming threat. Things that make you smile (like Droid banter) without being a full-frontal effort to be unnecessarily humorous. Full scale models to use as little CG as possible.

This shit tapped into my feels. Now, we've all seen trailers that look amazing while the final films are shit...and this could be one of them...but it seems objectively impossible for this film to be worse than 1-3 so we're already winning. Plus X-Wings and the Millennium Falcon, which are like...my favorite scifi space craft of all time.

Was that jump scare really necessary... lol.

I think it was. People's expectations on what a Star Wars is needs a shake up. This isn't the static drab George Lucas Camera A Camera B Star Wars, this is something different and exciting.
