Thanks!!
I was thinking that 13.5 sounded a bit high to be sold through at that point in time.
Still, those are some really impressive numbers!

I don't think it will beat the Wii's end of year record, but it sure will come close!

XBone at best had like the system and 3 games for $360.

PS4 had? system plus 3 games for $450.

Yea not surprised XBone sold more.

Didn't most of us expect Xbox one to win this holiday with halo and those disgusting price drops?

Yeah. Really, the only people who don't expect the Xbone to win NPD this month are those "men who just want to watch the world burn" that Alfred cautioned us about in the Dark Knight.

Didn't most of us expect Xbox one to win this holiday with halo and those disgusting price drops? It'd be sad if they didn't win TBH.

I really can't fathom how badly the wiiU is selling based on the anecdotal evidence. Smash and Bayo2, two of the highest reviewed games this year as exclusives...man my game tastes are so far and away from the norm.
Your game tastes and the quality of the games have almost nothing to do with the Wii U's issues. The primary issue at hand is mindshare. You can have all the best games in the world, but if no one is paying attention, then it doesn't matter. Perception is reality.

And if I wait until next Black Friday?

Man...Just think, 250-290ish+3 games+1 controller.
The price drop has been so drastic and fast that I couldn't recommend anyone to buy it during my poker night yesterday.
Everyone was joking about winning big to buy a console for BF or recouping their money from the other stuff.
But I didn't joke around, I told all of them all the consoles suck and they should invest in a Vita.
I got my chips taken away, and was told to go talk to the girls instead.
So I did and found out that one of the girl had an affair on one of the guys because she hooked up with someone on Tinder.
I asked her why would she need an app for that while she can call me instead.
The poker game went late, so I told him that I can take her home.
Afterward, I managed to get some good coffee last night and this morning before heading home.
Now guys, should I wait until next Black Friday to break the news that his girl was cheating on him because of the Tinder app?
The worse part is that Christmas is next month, and I don't want to create a hostile environment between the two.

The 3 TB hard drive I have connected to it is behind my TV stand.

Overall, while I don't think the Xbox One is a very nice looking console I don't think it's hideous either. Pretty much looks like a typical, no-frills "connect to TV" box. Doesn't compare in size to my A/V receiver.

Yeah, it's not as big as my receiver, but it's still pretty huge, and of course there's that external power supply. I had a laugh when plugged it in and realized that the power supply had a fan ... and a light?

The Xbox One really doesn't need anything else external attached to it. Just sayin'.

The age of Sony is finished etc.

For one month of a lead in one country (if true, which is just a bs site on a small 180k sample size, and they were blatantly wrong last year)..

I do hope you are being sarcastic.

Meanwhile PS4 has dominated every month in 2014..... one month is not going to close that gap, especially since the PS4 is selling strong too and in all countries..not just one (or the USA's little brother UK.)

They weren't blatantly wrong, actually they were probably very close to correct. Considering the Xbone launched after the PS4 so it had less time to get to 900+k and the PS4 was supply constrained on Black Friday.

Microsoft November NPD press release will be glorious

"return to form"

"xbox all in one entertainment system is the best place to game this fall according to consumers"

*list a bunch of statistics here to make it look better than it is*

*dont mention anything about profitability*

*mention the 360 and the "continued support" for the console*

"We would like to thank our fans for their continued support to the xbox platform..."

End.

Infoscout last Black Friday:

Methodology last Black Friday:

"Of over 102k shopping receipts tracked by InfoScout on Black Friday, slightly over 1,500 included purchases of a gaming console or console game. The data includes purchases at all major retailers carrying electronics including Walmart, Target, Best Buy, GameStop, RadioShack, and others. For more information related to our data and panel representation, visit our data page."

Do we have real numbers to compare this too?

With many thanks to Auqa^^

NPD November 2013::

PS4 - 1138K
XB1 - 909K
360 - 647K
PS3 - 425K
WIU - 223K
WII - 83K

And done.

That being said, I can't imagine X1 losing November with the ridiculous deals they had going

I'm very interested to see the actual difference more than anything this month and what December brings. Seems like a very good response for MS's promotion though.

It does when 500 GB isn't enough. :)

But yeah, I would probably get a remodel if I could get a decent amount of money for the one I have.

(If they win:) "The Xbox One was the top selling console in North America for the biggest console selling month of the year thus far!"

MS really priced that thing to move some big numbers this holiday season. Wouldn't be surprised if it took Nov-Dec. Price is just such a huge factor in these sales. It's the major reason why PS4 got such a big head start out of the gate. Now the question is whether or not MS can overcome that PS4 momentum and catch up in sales eventually through aggressive pricing and marketing (at least in NA, WW is a lost cause).

It's really exciting to have these companies in such fierce competition. Lots of interesting tactics and moves to see. I hope they stay close for the duration of the generation.

well one thing is for sure, MS certainly won the "losing the most money" competition this BF.

Don't worry about making money for the games division, let me worry about blank.

Or

Blank? Blank?! You're not seeing the big picture.

Anyway, Microsoft is doing anything they can conceivably do to catch up. While I don't see how they can go back to $400 with no bundled games after the holidays after having two months of fire sales, they will get a bunch of new users through the holidays. There is a separate thread on quotes from Andrew House re: Sony and the games division and where the revenue is and its more so in the ancillary stuff, for instance XBL for Microsoft. The more people paying for XBL the better and I assume that is the onus for the games division right now and selling the console for dirt cheap helps meet that goal.

"To get this data, InfoScout uses two smartphone apps that reward consumers for uploading their purchases by taking pictures of their receipts. The intelligence firm tracks over 200,000 shoppers, and it gets more than 125,000 receipts on an average day. On Black Friday, consumers uploaded more than 182,000 receipts, which helped InfoScout declare Xbox One the Black Friday winner."

I can't work out which is worse. The skewed statistics or the incredibly creepy nature of this app.

I agree. I would listen to someone like Aquamarine rather than something from a phone app.

Amazing how most consumers don't care about gaming consoles having the best games (Wii U). Xbox One is OK but offers very little outside of ports and multiplats you can get anywhere.

statistically , it is a very large polling number
What does a large polling number do for us? I'm pretty sure they teach you in statistics 1000 that a larger sample size doesn't necessitate accurate information.

Opinions and mindshare. How does it work.

"Ports and multiplats" are the best games to many people.

Ports and multiplats are games just like any other, and people choose a platform on which to play them. Some of those ports and multiplats are the best games of the respective year to many people. When you combine first party efforts with ports and multiplatforms, you get a hugely future proofed console which has a far greater variety than what Nintendo will ever be able to match. Specifically because third parties have abandoned Wii U and Nintendo simply doesn't touch certain themes/game types. So nobody else will fill in the voids missing.

I love my Wii U and would recommend it currently as-is to anyone on the market over PS4 and XBO, but with a qualifier. Because if someone says they can only own one console this gen, I'd probably tell them PS4. Because Wii U is not a system made to last in this market with the sales it's doing and the support it is getting from third parties and so PS4 and XBO will have much more healthy lifespans with a far greater variety and depth to their game library overall by the end of the gen.

And our opinion of Wii U is also just that. It doesn't factually have the best library, it subjectively does to me. And no matter how much I dance for people and tell them to go get a Wii U, it just ain't the way the market is built with how Nintendo's system is crashing in flames. Many people have to consider where these platforms are going too, because it's expected after this long on market Wii U should have better games. If it didn't, it'd be an even bigger catastrophe than it already is sales-wise.

Because dropping the price that low and giving away free games leads to stacks of money?

Only one competitor actually intended to make it in the black during Black Friday.

We really don't know if they actually sold at a loss, we can only assume.

Additionally this is about getting those consoles in home and hooking people into Xbox Live, EA Access, and other services. Console is just a delivery vessel for were the real money comes.

Prior to this generation most consoles would sell at a loss for a while. Microsoft still has that luxury while Sony does not.

People really need to get the fuck out with this nonsense. Not only are indies not games, apparently nothing published by companies other than Nintendo counts either.
