The Order 1886 at PSX - Impressions, Gameplay, etc.

I legitimately am, pretty pompous post, because I share your thoughts on this game for the most part, and often get chased out of order threads as a "concern troll", but legitimately I want to know what your favorite TPS are. Regen health shooters is not a good way of condensing it considering that's the majority of them.

Resident Evil 4 and Dead Space 2, Evil Within as well although the technical issues hold it back. I liked some things about TLoU but I felt a lot of little things held it back, but I much prefer how the handled things like the health system in that game compared to Uncharted or Gears.

Either way it's really aggravating how people are talking as if I'm going off some expectation of what TPS should be. I'm judging it for what it is, and what it is looks bad to me, and really this thread reinforces my opinion how there's been so little done in the genre that people have just come to accept it rather than ask for more.

Basically some people were never going to be satisfied with anything they shown.

I dont think they cant win at all here.

They've been promising varied gameplay time after time but we keep getting shown the same type of boring sequences. And what is up with all these super-short gameplay videos?

Its a 3rd person shooter what else is it suppose to be?

EatChildren can you combine both topics?

There can be a lot more variety than hide behind behind cover and shoot dumb AI. Everything they've shown is bland.

it is really interesting that most people are completely ignoring positive impressions from PSX, from people that are playing the game now.... instead they are concerned about something they saw in trailers.

30 minute demo is pretty damn long, and impressions are good so kudos to RAD.

Played the demo (~25 minutes) and I have to say, I was very pleased with how the gunplay feels...the gunplay is solid, the enemy AI is surprisingly good (lots of flanking, blind firing, etc), and of course, it looks gorgeous. I didn't get a chance to play MK X, so this feels like Game of the Show for me.

just wish there weren't jarring "cinematic angles" for melee moves. should keep the behind the character or just pan it over a bit, you shouldn't actually have cuts.

Thanks for the impressions!

How did movement and the cover system feel? What are your thoughts on melee and stealth?

I absolutely love what they're doing with the weapons in this game. They jump around from recoil, bullets with pathetic impact sound puny, that shotgun that's grossly powerful sounds menacing, and the muzzle flash is stupid gorgeous. This game is firing on all cylinders regarding weapons so far. And these aren't even the crazy ones!

They believe what they want to believe.

here we go again.

did tlou have any minigames? this is a simple minigame. takes away from pacing, my ass. it takes 2 seconds, you can fail, and it's better than triangle.

no. the kitchen was designed to have an intense firefight within a small area with limited room to move. it is a quick firefight that tests your reflexes and your ability to decide where to go given a small amount of space. it lasted two minutes. two.

the best parts of tlou were those within a tight area as well. not everything has to be "multiple paths and open" bullshit. it is not like you can only position yourself in a single area within the kitchen as well.
TLOU didn't need mini-games.

The kitchen fight felt like you are basically parked behind a pillar where you have a bunch of dudes shooting at you from both sides, the ability to improvise is limited. That's not saying that TLOU didn't have enclosed space, there were nooks and crannies to kind of sneak away to avoid getting pinned down and allow you to flank and try to outsmart the AI even though enemies are closing in trying to outflank you, it's a high stake game of hide and seek where the levels are set up to break the lines of sight between the player and the enemies.

This feels like they are only showing fights in the order where you get pinned down alot and you're basically limited to peeking behind cover, and sometimes that's not the best way to show off combat. It gives the wrong impression that this is all there is when the actual game might be different.

Finally, an informed opinion. Are the cover mechanics as smooth as the video suggested? Is there any info on melee? The video I saw was edited really weird. PEACE.

Edit: I see you ron_bato. LOL.

The Order 1886 looking like one of those you have low expectations for the first and high expectations for the next.

Nice. It's a shooter and this is what I want to hear.

All it took was the first comment for this thread to derail, RAD just can't win, this game is sadly gonna be crucified on release.
This demo already has changed the minds of the IGN guys that were down on it. I think RaD/Sony has just plain botched the marketing of this game. It took until now, two months before release, to actually get a good look at a basic combat scenario.

lol, yeah, you and I were both thinking the same thing ha.

The actual demonstration on the PSX keynote made movement look clunky and the cover system cumbersome. But seeing the more refined gameplay demo, movement and the cover system looked great and much more fluid.

Really love how impactful and weighty the guns feel based on the video. Recoil on the assault rifle looked good, and the alt fire gave me dead space force gun vibes. If the shooting is as tight as the videos suggest, then I'll be happy. I'm genuinely curious about the melee system though, because it looks like it takes a while to initialize and your left too out in the open as a result.

This game looks like a gen apart to most of the stuff released to this point, dare to say, everything released so far.

They've been very critical of the game before on Podcast Beyond, so yeah it bodes well that they like it now.

I'm really starting to feel that the game just doesn't trailer well but it just fits when you're playing. It doesn't do anything outstanding but it must just feel right. Wish I could get to play with it before launch.

I was super hyped at the initial reveal and graphics wise it looks amazing but gameplay still not sure. I really dislike all the "enemy down" stuff. Makes me think just another shooter game. Not sure here gaf.

Is there a pretty good mix of cutscene and gameplay or did you feel the cutscenes were too much?

Lol peoples' reactions to this game amaze me. Generic, boring, uninspired, etc., we've seen hardly any of the game. Im sure you could find segments of shooting in any TPS that you could label all of those things. It's just dumb, it seems like people are hating just for the sake of hating.

Are you expecting people to comment on what they see or what the developer tells them? We've hardly seen any of the game because, for whatever reason, Sony refuses to put out anything beyond minute-long videos and what they do put out looks like the same stuff we played over and over again on the ps3 and 360.

Like others said, looks great visually. Boring gameplay though, maybe the other parts of the game are more fun.

Why they make TPS game a TPS game ?

This is unbearable. I have to shit on this.

I wish people would stop this line of bullshit. Look at the excitement/interest at the OTHER cinematic third person shooter gameplay Sony showed off today and look at this game. The "looks boring" comments aren't because of the damn genre.
