"Street Fighter V is a PS4 console exclusive" (PlayStation Blog)

Not clarified.

Is Super Street Fighter V or Street Fighter V Turbo also exclusive?

Why would he clarify things that don't exist yet?

Also, given the way Ono worded it, it sounds like cross play is a direct result of their partnership with Sony. So unless they plan on ditching it in future iterations, they will probably be exclusive too. Either that, or Microsoft begins to allow cross play as well, which would be great.

We know Street Fighter V is console exclusive to PS4. It's the inevitable future iterations of SFV like Super or Ultra SFV that we need clarification on.

Well, every version of Street Fighter IV post Super were just updates to Super, rather than separate games. I don't think they'll attempt to release a standalone "SSFV" nowadays.

I would like to believe they won't iterate in terms of retail releases. Certainly there will be no SF4 to SSF4 style break in upgrade-ability this time, that would be absurd.

Everyone is joking about super and what not but I'm interested to see how they go with it this time around. I'm sure they are aware of what people who, lets be real here, don't play fighting games much less Street Fighter, say about it. I wonder if they will try to do an all... online updates model while not changing the name unless it goes through a significant revamp, or go with their frankly old mind set of multiple releases for the updates.

if theres no iteration retail wise would that mean Xbox if it did get a super etc would be download only?

The only thing that annoys me is the term "console exclusive".

I mean, I understand it and all. But I've got another term for things that come out on multiple platforms, "not exclusive". It's just marketing and it is silly.

That aside, I generally like what is going on here and am really looking forward to cross play from my PC.

Its a console exclusive.

I don't think XBO is going to get any iteration at all. I was just saying I'd like to think there is no retail iterating, I think there absolutely will be.

Right, but they will, and Sony/Capcom will already know if they're going to be exclusive or not.

There is no practical difference between a one year exclusivity window on a game and an eternal exclusivity on a game that will be replaced in one year.

That assumes much. How do you know it's not open ended? That when it comes to making those games, Cacpom won't then approach Sony or MS again to see what would be offered to keep it exclusive or multi? Do you expect them to come out now and tell us all that the future of update games platforms depends on how much money a console maker may want to spend in two years time?

That seems unreasonable. Neither Sony or Capcom may have any idea about future updates, because much is going to depend on the reception of this one.

I don't expect them to clarify, hence why I disagree with the OP that this is clarification.

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
why it isnt wrong to expect them based on well previous games, I swear I saw a gaffer saying, someone said that SF5 would be the only release and it would get updates (I'm assuming dlc updates, instead of disc re release like super they will be dl only). Whether the person they were quoting or even the gaffer themselves was telling the truth only time will tell.
I've heard this too.

Sounds like FFXIV to me. MS never seems to want crossplatform thus the game doesn't end up there.

Super will be exclusive then, also taking into consideration you can probably upgrade digitally like before (don't see why not). The base game is SFV.

But really, vanilla SFV is still a long way off.. lets enjoy that first.

I'm happy it has been announced too, but what makes you want to celebrate the exclusivity?

I feel like we're going to be getting the best possible SFV because of the fact that it's PS4 exclusive.

As an exclusive, the developers can concentrate on taking advantage of the hardware without worry, and fortunately PS4 is already the easiest to develop for, and also the most powerful to develop for.

As PS4 owners, we don't have to worry about forced parity with the lowest common denominator that is XO, when a game is exclusive to PS4.

PS4 should be, quite simply, the home of all exclusives, where the full potential of games can be realized.

Fair enough, but you do suggest they already know, and that may likely not be the case at all.
I totally disagree with that.

I think the chance whatever contract they have doesn't specify iterations, in the series most famous for iterations, is zero.

Sony would be braindead to not have iterations covered.

No way! SF5 is exclusive to PS4 on consoles? No one knew! <heavy sarcasm>

Haven't we had enough Street Fighter threads already?

Do you not think that future iterations depends greatly on the reception of the first title?

Because you must realise that has a huge bearing, especially if Capcom needed funding from another party, as many have suggested.

I don't think there was much confusion as much as there was unwillingness to accept tbh.

Some upset is definitely understandable though, considering. No one likes to miss out.
I think they might be even more upset when they realize this extends to any Super/Ultra/Champion editions too, if Sony's funded and helped out the way they are w/ Bloodborn or MS did w/ DR3.

This is what I've been thinking of late too. There is the off-chance MS could get another SF series like Alpha/Zero or a different Capcom fighter like Cyberbots (hey, I just want another Cyberbots sequel) or Darkstalkers and have the KI team help out on it, but this SFV deal pretty much locks vanilla and other versions to PS4+PC.

The main reason I'm thinking this now is b/c if Sony approached Ono on the collab, Sony must be fronting the tech side of things and a lot of the costs. I don't think Capcom themselves have a lot of hands-on w/ this one; they've just at least given permission for use of the SF license.

I think whatever the situation, it's expressly covered in the contract.

It could be anything from 'All SF5 assets are owned by Sony and can't be used without express permission.' to 'The initial iteration of SFV will only appear on the PS4, aside from PC platforms, future iterations will be negotiated as and when with asset royalties received in perpetuity'.

It really could be anything, and yes, the existence, and exclusivity of future iterations might be open to various elements of the contract, sales performance, metacritic score, XBO market share, etc. We'll never know those details.

But in any of those possible situations, they'd be covered in the contract, so the possibility will have already been accounted for, so it would be possible to be transparent about those things. I don't expect them to, I never did, of course, but I think the exclusivity is far from 'clarified'.

If the series wasn't so infamous for these iterations, it wouldn't be so cloudy. TitanFall for example, someone says TitanFall will never come to PS4, I would be very confident a TitanFall GotY Edition wouldn't come to PS4.

Sony are publishing SF5?

Any word of a release date?

The game is clearly in early development, it'll probably be a while until we get a release date.

I'd expect late 2015 or 2016, personally.

Yeah... This is where I back down.

If you are going to think like that, get a high end PC and suddenly you'll think that all consoles are holding things back. I have nothing against consoles, but don't start this full potential of games nonsense.

Somebody should ask them when they do an interview if this means no game with any variation of the title SFV will release on Xbox One.

The worst business practice going on right now other than day 1 dlc. Anyone suggesting this game wouldnt have been made without the help of Sony might need to check themselves into a psych ward. This is Capcoms biggest franchise (atleast in America), this game was always going to be made.

I reallllly hope this doesnt get out of hand. Otherwise, were going to see alot of our beloved franchises being segregated by console exclusivity.

Ill have a ps4 by the time this game comes out, but jesus, this sucks for everyone honestly.

If Capcom really couldn't afford to make the game, it doesn't suck for anyone. PS4 owners get the game, PC owners get the game, XBO owners get the game to exist, and the potential to buy a platform with it on.

Everybody wins.

Plinko

Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage
I will buy this day one but will also be open about the fact that I don't see a huge difference in visuals between SFIV and this one.

People with shit PC trying to run it with ULTRA GFX@15FPS will ruin PS4 users experience, can't wait for all the crossplay rage.

Hah hah.... people who don't know a damn thing about the PC version talking. The game forces you to run a benchmark before playing online EVERY TIME you change a graphical setting to make sure that your system is running at 60fps. If not, you get a grade less than A on your profile which people can see.

as much as exclusives annoy me, if it means a game that wouldn't otherwise exist happens so be it. Ala Bayonetta 2, Street Fighter 5, Titanfall, Dead Rising 3 etc.
