"Street Fighter V is a PS4 console exclusive" (PlayStation Blog)

Sorry, but I'm still a little confused and don't know if the issue has been cleared up.

I understand that SF5 is only for PS4 and PC. Now does that extend to any title? Is it still exclusive if there is a Super or Ultra version?

No Street Fighter player in their right mind would wait 1 year for the Super version. Give the competitors 1 year headstart to train? That's suicide, just get a PS4 for this, guys.

Whoa? 500,000 copies for Ultra? That's better than I expected. How much was the budget for the game, like $10,000?

Well considering that an another update for SFxT would cost in the ballpark of US$3 million.
Not that cheap. They still had to port Rolento, Hugo, Elena, Poison, create the "new" character Decapre, Red Focus, W Ultra, Edition Select, rebalancing AND they are still not finished. It's still missing updated Trials, Online Edition Select and Omega mode. Wouldn't surprise me if it's in the same ballpark as that SFxT estimate.

Also it's another good time to repost this thread("How the hell does *that* cost $X to make???" (Giant Bomb and Skullgirls)) again.

Amazing box cover

Beautiful.

Square Enix did it with FFXIV so maybe?

Lol, no. FFXIV is an MMO, and xbone not being cross compatible mean building an entire new set of servers just for a single platform.

If Capcom really couldn't afford to make the game, it doesn't suck for anyone. PS4 owners get the game, PC owners get the game, XBO owners get the game to exist, and the potential to buy a platform with it on.

Everybody wins.

I know that's the song they are singing, but I have a very hard time believing Capcom is out of money to develop a new entry for one of their biggest franchises and one that is guarantee to sell. Specially when it looks like that it doesn't cost that much more than SF4 to make.

dayummmmm that's a badass cover
i'm surprised they already decided on a cover though, isn't it still very far away?

I'm curiois about this too. Have they even set a date? I'll see how it looks next week at CPT.

So hype! And I hope they listen to SkullGirls to make PS3 sticks compatible... I got 4 lying around.

I know I'm in the minority affected here, but this game maintaining console exclusivity for its entire run is kind of nice for me. I don't care about console wars crap, I own both consoles.

My concern is that something similar to what happened with SF4 happening where some tournaments ran on PS3 and some on 360 (like EVO being PS3 for most of the life of the game, while other majors used 360). This affects me as a tournament player because I don't want to have to need two sticks. If I can be certain that the game will exist and function only on PS4 and PC, that's not another 200 dollar investment I'd need to put in just to be certain that I can play at any tournament I go to.

If the game had been xbone exclusive and not PS4, I'd be fine with that too. I just don't want to buy two sticks haha.

What is Sony doing beyond giving them money, if anything? Do we know?
Unless I missed something, we don't know that Sony have given them any money at all. We know Sony are "assisting with development" and they're allowing Ono to have cross-platform play. We also know Ono had been saying Capcom wouldn't give him enough money to make a SF5.

So they are giving him money... LOL.

They are either taking up the additional costs themselves or funding it. Either way, they are paying for the development of the title.

I'm not saying that hasn't happened. I'm saying we haven't had any confirmation of it. Kitty asked what we knew. :p

However, rather than paying Capcom, Sony could be loaning them money. Maybe Sony send money and/or staff Capcom's way now, and when the game releases, Capcom pay Sony double platform fees for the first X copies or whatever. That's kind of how their Pub Fund deals are set up, from what I understand. It's more of an advance on expected earnings rather than an outright payment, though both result in cash in Capcom's pocket today, I suppose.

Or, maybe Sony aren't involved financially at all, and Ono just really wanted cross-platform play. That seems to be the bit he's most excited about, at least.

There is no way this would be console exlucisve without money involved.

I say this primarily because of how much Capcom needs money right now. They can't afford to cut off such a HUGE part of their users base on the Xbox side unless they are being subsidized. It is just common sense.

Make ya' a bet it will come out late 2015 or early/mid 2016.

Also, cool thing about Cross-platform Play is that PC players won't have to wait 6 months to a year for the PC release.

So Sony did actually provide funding/support for development of SFV? It's not just a moneyhat?
Ono said he approached Sony, and he seems quite happy able to implement cross-platform play since now he's avoiding forced parity. Boyes said Sony are assisting in the development of the game.

Most assume money also changed hands, but that's never been stated. Nor has anyone said Sony are bankrolling the project, or anything like that. As far as we know, it's just a Capcom game that's exclusive to PS4 and PC.

Interesting situation. Capcom must feel there's enough PS4+PC market to justify missing Xbox One, at least for the first version of the game.

SFV is a platform that needs to last for a long time. If it flops or under performs, it could kill Capcom.

They're hedging their bets.

For a casual fighting game fan without plans to play competitively, what was the latest retail version of SFIV, and what platform is recommended?

Ultra Street Fighter IV is the latest version, both the PS3 and 360 versions should be fine. It's also on PC.

A port has been announced for PS4 as well.

I had been wondering what they were up to, maybe this is Capcom tactic for staying in the black or getting out of red. I wouldn't be surprised if more exclusives are announced, for PS4/Xbox 1, and WiiU.

Tomb Raider vs Street fighter. Lol in the generation in which porting really probably is as easy as flipping a switch. Glad I'm always on PC now.

Really it's that far out? Eeesh. I was expecting like end of 2015 or whatever.

I was listening to the new rant from Angry Joe. Good lord, dude sounds like a fanboy even thought he seems to be pissed at fanboy? Really, really cringeworthy to hear. Oh yea if Capcom is so well off, why arent they funding this game 100% again? Oh its just a money hat like Tomb Raider? Gotcha!

Yeeeeeeeeeeaaaah. No. PS4 is still going to get Tomb Raider. Xbox will not get SFV. Period.

What I meant was Angry Joe sounds like a stupid fanboy himself while bashing fanboys? and I didnt see it because I wanted to. My brother likes Angry Joe so i was laying on the bed hearing his rant near by. Jesus he even doesnt know about how MS likes to cut off any PC cross platform stuff when given the chance and he is like "well if MS does that, they are stupid." Guess what Joe, they and and so its your dumb rant. Get more informed next time instead of sounding so dumb! (Wish he would come in here as he has an account but Im sure he doesnt want to get schooled)

Still gives money to Capcom.

It's their gamble to take. Will the co-production cost savings make up for the Millions of lost sales on other platforms? Capcom will find out. Best case scenario: It doesn't hurt the Franchise too bad; Worst case: The franchise goes into a fiery tailspin like the SoulCalibur franchise did with SoulCalibur 3.

The risk to the franchise is way more extreme than whatever costs they may save from a coproduction.

Personally, I wouldn't deprive myself of a favorite game because the company that develops it is trying to reduce some costs, but I'm not going to contribute to the company that's financing it from not appearing on other platforms. PC sounds like a great Compromise here.

How on earth has capcom not got enough money to fund a sequel to ome of their best selling franchises? Makes no sense

Easy, they follow the money and to them the only guaranteed money is mobile, monster hunter or resident evil.

Capcom doesn't care about Street Fighter, fighting games or arcades for that matter.

They sold the SF IP to their US subsidiary (which doesn't really make sense and they still end up owning it since they own their US subsidiary), botched SF4 arcade effectively killing that scene in Japan (it only lives through console and top Japanese players who travel overseas), and allowed Bamco to pillage and dismember their remaining arcade staff (Gundam Vs staff).

Capcom doesn't care about SF the way people think they do.

What Ono said was not all drama, it's the sad truth.

I think alot of people are being misinformed by youtube personalities. Just hearing Angry Joe is so maddening. Im sure there are others who are ignorant of the subject, believe Capcom makes a killing of SF and Sony basically paid off Capcom to not release SF5 on Xbone.

Sorry for bringing AJ into this. Like he is neutral. He was a 360 owner last gen and this one he bought a PS4. But seems like some of his bias or maybe the Tomb Raider Fiasco left a bad taste on his mouth and believes that Sony really just money hatted the game. I kept reading the reveal thread and people have posted links to their yearly income things and its apparent what you are saying is true.

Ono said himself that they had no resources to port USF4 for next gen and it took Sony's 3rd party relations team to port it over thus being only on PS4 but its nothing about money hatting shit. I wish like alot of gamers who are dismayed that both titles would be out on both platforms but seems Capcom just arent willing to put that investment in the franchise right now.

Have a PS4...going PC because fuck the cockblocking of this game.
  • Having MS out of the picture allows for cross-platorm play and a unified fan base.
  • Having Sony in the picture may have allowed the game to have been made at all.
  • Being made for fewer platforms means the game can better leverage the platforms in question, likely comes out sooner and with fewer bugs, and costs less to produce, increasing the chance of future support.

They're blocking your cock with their mouths, dude.

Because the intersection between people that want to buy/play Street Fighter V and people who own a PS4 or gaming PC is not 100%, this decision formally excludes Xbox One, Wii U, 3DS, and Vita? owners who may have purchased the title if it had been available to them.

I don't have a good breakdown for PC/PS3/360 sales of Street Fighter 4 and revisions, but I can point to 1.1 Million 3DS or n3DS sales that will not be happening this time around.

That somehow nullifies them assisting with development? What we do know is that had Sony not came into the picture there wouldn't be an sfv this soon.
