Forgot to say, thanks to those of you who passed on info to me. Really helped us find out the cause of the VIP pricing issue.

I just upgraded to VIP and grabbed the add-on for $10. I hope there are plans to release more DLC content similar to what we're getting here.

Game update downloaded and installed super fast, but the game is taking ages to sync my data. Like 5 minutes and it's only 26%

They probably knocked up in a week. They saw DC and realised their game would be made irrelevant so rushed this through development.

You'll notice that a lot of the assets are recycled from the main game to hurry development along.

DC's weather wouldn't make Forza Horizon irrelevant when it's driving engine failed to do so previously. Just saying.

can we stop with the driveclub comparisons? one is open world and the other is closed circuit...theres a huge difference

why not wait until forza 6 with weather comes out before we make comparisons

Uploading some Cockpit cam footage (only 720p) from my first few races to YouTube. I can't make gifs or anything but it looks pretty good (YouTube compression really doesn't do it justice though)

And here it is! (It's a replay because the game dvr failed the first time through)
Forza Horizon 2 Storm Island Race 1: http://youtu.be/d_vzwAKd2jE

And Race 2 (not so stormy island, hood cam)

Wow VIP seems kind of bogus. Makes me leary of spending money on any of their dlc for some reason.

Just so I understand, why are people assuming VIP was similar to a Season-Pass style buy in?

I mean, I didn't buy it, but what it offered was clear enough that it would have nothing to do with a purchase like this. Even the Car Pass didn't sound like it should overlap with this.

I think the problem is that there's a car pass at £20 (the usual price of a season pass) and then there's a glorified coin doubler for a further £16. People that own both probably feel like they have enough skin in the game as it is.

I love the Forza games, but man they're aggresively monetised. If this was an Ubisoft game people would be flipping virtual tables.

First impressions: It feels like a bigger, better version of the FH1 Rally Expansion. Instead of updating existing roads like they did in Horizon 1, they gave us a whole new island to explore. While it isn't as big as i'd like it to be, it certainly has some great off-road trails and areas that the original map was missing, and I can see how some of these routes will be very fun to replay many times and play in online multiplayer.

Theres also a tonne of replay value in this expansion, with the new championships and 90 new events (20 new courses) which are all really fun and give a new challenge that wasn't in the game at launch. It really is a new experience racing with extremely low visibility, in a torrential downpour, with new more slippery surface types and of course more jumps! The new cars are awesome to say the least, but I think the most underrated thing with this expansion has to be the rally upgrades. Being able to now lift and rally converted existing cars is fantastic and something that really was missing from the first Horizon. Now have the ability to rally convert a TVR and boost it around the golf course or wherever is fantastic and really unique.

TL;DR: The expansion is well worth it. Get it. Like FH1 Rally but way better.

I fucking great, but it does help the off road races were my favourite part in the main game too.
Well be spending a lot of time tomorrow fitting out a few cars with rally parts.

I love jumps.

But the landings keep cracking my '05 WRX STI's windshield.

I wish I could somehow make my windshield invulnerable, or else just have my driver kick the busted windshield away so it wouldn't mess with my visibility.

I think I did the same too. How many events do you have to do to be able to unlock it?

I've done two so far, but have been enjoying free roaming (except for my broken windshield action).

Two championships, I think. It's a special barn find in a way because there's no search radius and Ben mentions that nobody has a clue where it is.

Finish the first two championships then it should unlock.
Yep, that did it. Won the second championship and then headed back and voila! Very special

So far am loving this, though the Horizon 1 rally DLC will always hold a special place in my heart because I had to be really disciplined to win those events. The last race I did for the second championship on Storm Island was a classic Horizon 2 checkpoint race where the AI in front of me *kept* skipping entire checkpoints and I'm not sure if there's anything more annoying than that in a single player event. I've only seen that happen in that one event (out of four) so far, but man I was hoping Playground would have fixed that.

This DLC also holds a special place in my heart if only because it has some wonderful free roaming off-roading, and that was my number one ask from the series :)

The H1 Rally DLC and this DLC are a deviation of the normal gameplay, which is always great. I hate DLC which adds more of the same stuff.

Part of me considers Forza Horizon 2 a tech-demo on what features Forza 6 should have, especially the weather, day/night cycle, better lighting and road types.

If Forza 6 does not have weather, I will be so disappointed.

This DLC is awesome. Been playing it all evening. Having a blast with it and they included lots of content. This is the proper way to do DLC

15 seconds off the boat at Storm Island this happened...

Love it! :D

I had almost the same exact jump, but I didn't make it as far and landed a bit to the side. But seriously, I just finished up two Online Road Trips on Storm Island. What a great expansion. You guys made the races more fun, and tougher. Those trees will eat you up if you just drive out of control.

I do have an unrelated question if you can help.

A month ago, or so, XBL was down and acing flaky. During this time I was taking cars out in the riverbed near Cistern and racking up skill points in order yo unlock the achievement. I finally picked up my 65th skill point, but the game wouldn't unlock the achievement. Actually, it showed as achieved, but was stuck in perpetual "Unlocking" mode for days (weeks?). So as I was checking last night, I saw that it now has locked, and that I'm 64% of the way done. The problem is, when looking at the progress, in the menus, I still have all 65 skill points. Did the glitch just cost me an achievements, or is there a way to trigger it?

It's a big deal, as I'm not really that much of an achievement whore. But this game has made knocking them out pretty fun. I finally got the roads finished the other night.

Any suggestions?

If Forza 6 does not have weather, I will be so disappointed.

To be honest, I think weather is kind of overrated and not really appropriate for Forza proper. It's not like racing in the rain is common or considered acceptable, as far as I know. It feels right in an arcade racer like Horizon, but why arcade up Forza?

One of my favorite racing titles from years ago was EA's NFS: High Stakes, which had great damage that affected your driving, and races in both the rain and snow, as well as night. My progression in the game came to a screeching halt when I had to finish 3rd in a 5 lap night race in the rain. The issue was, it was near impossible to get more than three laps without losing both my headlights. I would either hit someone, or a car would hit me. If you hit a sign, the light was gone.

I loved that game, but the rain and night racing ruined it for me.

I think rain and snow can be a fun addition, and Storm Island is crazy fun. I just don't know why someone would want it in a proper sim.

It always surprises and amazes me what people consider to be arcade appropriate. Isn't rain an important aspect of motorsport?

Same thing with open worlds. For some reason you're not allowed to have sim physics in open worlds - you always have to arcade it up. Guess there isn't enough of a market there, but I think I'd love it.

On the topic of weather and rain, I love what they've done here. It isn't going for strict realism, or trying to terrify you or completely screw your visibility - it just makes the driving trickier and the environment on the whole a lot more dramatic - especially on Storm island with the trees swaying and the gusting winds. At least in terms of the approaches taken to weather by racers so far this year, I can appreciate both for different reasons. And maybe what Horizon doing is lightweight enough for Forza Motorsport to use sometime down the line while still keeping that locked 60fps.
