Minecraft Creator Snatches Beverly Hills Megamansion From Beyoncé and Jay-Z For $70MM

I would personally buy a cheaper house. I'd think even $10 million would get you an overwhelmingly nice house.

But as dumb and careless as it seems for him to spend $70 million on a house, we don't know what he is doing/will do with the rest of his money. He has plenty left to help out millions of people in the world, if he wants. Sometimes people donate privately or anonymously because they don't want the spotlight. We don't know if Notch has done this. So it would be best if people didn't judge him so...unknowingly.

Money doesn't make you happy. But would rather be miserable and rich than miserable and poor. :)
What a house, hope he has enough cash left for a CLEANING LADY.

It's easy to to judge people like this, but wouldn't buying yourself a nice 10M home and doing something good with the other 50-60M make you feel so much better when your sitting around your house?

With that said, I've always felt people can do what they want with their money, and like mentioned it's not like he profited off of other peoples suffering.

He still has about 1.7 billion to do something good with if he wants to

Bootstraps will solve everything wrong with the world, clearly.

Whatever you're proposing certainly won't. He doesn't owe anyone anything. He took care of his employees and I'm sure he took care of his family. Anything else is gravy.

People envy him and it's why so many people are acting salty in this thread.

God forbid a dude who 5-6 years ago had nothing and now can buy a 70 milliion dollar house like it's nothing. How dare this greedy son of a bitch enjoy life with the money he earned and how dare he not give away his entire fortune to the less fortunate?! And to the people who stand on their soap boxes how many times have you volunteered around your city? Donated money? Is this just stuff you would do IF you were rich? It's easier to say then do.

And when did it suddenly fall on people who have money to solve people without moneys problem? Why it is that if someone comes into a fortune they are expected to just give their money away? Why does someone who came from nothing suddenly have to give people money because he made something of his life? If i suddenly won 500 million from the lottery i am not going to go give half of it to charity, i am going to buy a nice big house, invest and make sure that 20-30 years from now my nieces kids kid has money.

I agree, there are many hypocrites that don't donate or contribute yet expect the wealthy to do so. I believe that people should fight to better themselves not get jealous or rely on handouts.

It's not careless to spend a lot on land and houses. Spending $1000 on cars or Steam games is throwing money in the garbage; spending $1000 on owned real estate means you can, at worst, come out with 75% return. Usually you make money. The fact that this house was bid up so high and by major players means that it is a desirable piece of property and can be resold.

Did it come with the two ladies?

You're saying people shouldn't judge him...but you are judging him! Lol!

I don't understand how buying that house can be considered a dumb move. It's already been said that in 1 or 2 years he probably could sell it for a hefty profit. Hell he could probably sell it next week for a couple million more than he paid, it seems there were a lot of people interested in the house (as absurd as it is since it cost 70MM).

And how is it careless? Dude spend 5% or 4% of his net worth on a house. He won't be missing the money.

It's easy to hold the guy or anyone else to some imaginary standard that you will never have to follow because you will never be in the same position as he is.

After reading some posts in this thread I think I now understand why Notch wanted to sell Mojang. Can't say I blame him.

Yeah, that's true. I guess I wasn't saying it was a careless investment, just a slightly weird use of that much money. Especially for someone who is not a U.S. citizen.

I did say, as "dumb and careless as it seems..."

I was also saying I wouldn't spend as much, personally. Don't see how I was judging him by expressing an opinion. Guy can and should do whatever he wants with that money. I have absolutely no problem with it.

Must be weird to be Jay-Z and be outbid by some video game guy in a fedora.

Curious to see what Notch does with the house.

No idea why you'd buy a house in Beverly Hills if you didn't have to work in LA but good for him, I guess. I remember only a few years ago Minecraft won Seumas McNally at IGF and everyone was like, "Why does he need that award? He's made, like, a million dollars off of Minecraft."

If I had that money, I'd build my own mansion.

It'd be a maze mansion. Filled with secret passageways and labyrinthine hallways and rooms that go nowhere and do nothing only to have special secret hatchways that slide down into a pool room or a dusty moldy library filled with occult tomes.

Then when I die, I'll leave it to the county to turn into a tourist attraction, especially for Halloween

So...the Winchester Mystery House?

Been done, dude.

Pointless purchase... But then he can do whatever he wants with his money. Good to see that you can get that wealthy creating video games.

What a waste of all those fortunes

Cant blame him for wanting to live as luxuriously as possible while he is still relatively young

Stuff of dreams man

I would rather blow that money on something fleeting though. Give myself some awesome experiences

I mean unless he plans on hosting guests and parties all the time it seems very impractical.

What makes this house so expensive? The location I assume? I mean it is amazing but not really 70M amazing. I saw some 5M spanish style mansion that has more character and space than this. The house feels very cold.

The design is quite boring! All that beige.

Bentley pillows. Ugh.

I like the bathroom and outdoor areas but honestly I was expecting something a bit more... Dramatic? It's obviosuly lavishly appointed but visually I find it quite dull. Ugly, even, in sections.

He really should renovate. Something... Cubist.

The money he invested in the house isn't gone. It's just been converted to a house. So technically his net worth is still pretty much the same as before the purchase depending on how you value the property.

the fuck is it with that tacky pillow
You think those pillows are tacky? You haven't seen anything yet:

God lots of people on this forum hate successful rich people. The guy has done well and now he is celebrating. I'm sure he is going to have a sick car as well. Let him enjoy himself.

Yeah, I wish I could have just a taste of what he spent. You only live once, might as well enjoy it to the fullest if you have the means.

It is.. quite something. However, if I had that kind of money I'd probably want something just a bit more toned down and more homey. This looks like a super expensive porn set.

Might be, but think of the cost it takes to sustain such a house. You can't do the householding and all the repairs over the years yourself and really, most of it is completely unnecessary. Who needs so many bedrooms and bathrooms for instance? As someone who owns north of a billion dollar, it might seem not too expensive, but I think the costs that follow the initial investment are probably enormous and personally, I don't see how it is really useful. Huge waste of money.

He he. I think it's really cute that you think someone who buys a property like this is concerned about having to do housekeeping and repairs on their property.

LOL, it kinda does. But it's his money and he wanted it, so good for him.

The property tax alone makes hiring full time maintenance and cleaning people seem like pocket change in comparison.

I get everyone saying it looks like a porn house, but if I owned that place I would totally let porno productions shoot there.

Sitting there eating your dinner and suddenly realising that Abella Anderson got buttfucked over the table you're using would be pretty cool.

Or maybe that's just me.

EDIT: Assuming said table had been thoroughly cleaned, but that's a personal preference.
