Kingdom Come: Deliverance playable tech Alpha is OUT NOW (PC/PS4/Xbone Cryengine RPG)

Looks good. Can you still back the game to get alpha access?

Yeah right here:
http://kingdomcomerpg.com/pledges/#tier
Need at least baron to get alpha+beta access.

Read those, and that's the conclusion I took away as to why no traditional publisher could pick up the game. A lot of them were enthusiastic about the game, and Warhorse has data suggesting there's enough of an audience that would be receptive to their idea. It just isn't an easy idea to distill into something simple enough to broadly market. Even Skyrim's marketing had to heavily simplify things from what the Elder Scrolls world is really about down to "viking-looking guys and dragons." I'll even admit I wasn't interested in an Elder Scrolls game until Skyrim because that game looked like it has an easily recognizable visual identity to me.

Anyway, what's interesting to me about Kingdom Come is that it might actually be the first fully next-gen immersive sim in the style of Elder Scrolls or Deus Ex or whatever. Though I guess that depends on when it comes out in relation to Witcher 3 and how much like an immersive sim Witcher 3 becomes.

Oh yeah Bethesda drilled that "dragons are back!" thing really hard. It is true that there is no simple "gimmick" KCD could focus on like that. But then it does not need Skyrim numbers. Skyrim sold around 25-30 million copies by now, KCD will be a huge success if they sell a million, since it is selfpublished and they do not have to split profits with any publisher.
Comparison to Witcher 3 is interesting...Witcher 3 is my most anticipated game, but I would not categorize it as immersive sim at all...more like cinematic narratively driven open world RPG *gasp*. KCD should be closer to immersive sims though. There are no set classes, you can do whatever you want and get better at it by doing it, NPCs have their own lives, etc.

It'll still be unclear until Witcher 3 comes out, but when you look at the gameplay, especially the 35-minute video, they make it seem like the game will have immersive sim qualities in terms of how its world works. People who saw demos behind closed doors said similar things, mainly in terms of how NPCs behave and react to things in the world. More than likely it's going to be an expansion of how Witcher 1's towns and NPCs worked but on an open world scale. I just see it as the next-gen game most similar to Kingdom Come for some reason.

When is chapter 1 supposed to come out again? They made it seem like the first half of 2015 or something like that?

Damn this thread went to shit fast.

On-topic, I backed this game yesterday and I've put 2 hours into it only having one quest. I can't imagine the amount of time I'll spend with the full version, it's just so damn immersive.

Edit: And while we're at it, seriously, Durante, I expect better of you. Referring to this whole thing as "melodrama" is beyond insulting
I referred to the whole thing as a "clusterfuck", which I see as perfectly appropriate. I referred to your word choice regarding Vavra as "melodrama", which I also stand by completely. He's not an "existential threat" to anyone. Don't put words in my mouth, and don't mix up criticism of your style of argument with criticism of its actual message. If you feel insulted that's fine, but don't tell me I insulted anyone who is not even remotely part of what I criticized.

I wouldn't have commented on this again, but I can't let this degree of misrepresentation go unchallenged.

This forum is far too much into politics. Threads gets littered with irrelevant crap. It's like a cancer eating away through a thread, hampering gaming discussion and eventually killing the thread.

Such a shame...

This is so fucking true. There are a bunch of people right now absolutely ruining NeoGAF at the moment and it gets worse everyday. I always thought derailing threads was against the rules but apparently not.

It is killing this forum. I am now embarrassed that I recommended GAF to so many friends.

EVERYONE involved should be ashamed of themselves because you are doing the impossible, you are making our gaming hobby not fun.

Good job people.

True, to much politics on the forums these days.

Seriously though, if you denied yourself everything in life that has ties to something you find as socially reprehensible you would end up naked, hungry and homeless (myself included). But I guess people have to find things to pick and choose to battle for or they end up like hence.

Anyway the game is looking great so far, I only pledged the base amount to get the game so I'll be patiently waiting.

Anytime somebody complains about anything ever is 'not fun'. So by your standards we just can't ever say anything except happy thoughts. If you just want hand holding and high fives, you are in the wrong place.

Why can't the mods just enforce GG discussion to be restricted only to GG threads? That way those of us who want to read about or participate in that discussion can do so in one place and those who just want to talk about the games elsewhere can do so?

There's probably a thread for that sort of non-game stuff.

Judging by the tiers, guessing Act I is going to be mostly a full game? Game seems like it would be unreal with the Rift too.

That's the million dollar question, isn't it?

Dude wore this T-shirt in a recent dev video about the game. He brought his politics into the discussion, it's now a part of the discussion. If you don't like it, tell him.

No. It is a discussion point about the issue. Not about the game at hand. Which is the subject of this thread. Please take it to the GG forum so we can talk about the game here.

He used a dev video about his game to push his politics, now his politics are linked to the game because he chose to make it so. Again, if that upsets you then send him a stern email.

We have a thread for #GG, I'd prefer it if we didn't have it leaking out elsewhere. We've discussed it plenty already ITT. If you want to arrange a boycott or something I guess you could make a new thread.

The development of Mafia II were such a mess and with their deadline, Rockstar had to give them a helping hand.

It wasn't fun working on Mafia II, so I understand the people who left the company.

Mafia 2 was also not fun to actually play. :p
But seriously, that would explain why the story takes a nosedive about half way through.

With the recent popularity of Paradox's grand strategy game, especially CKII and EUIV, I guess the audience is quite plentiful. I know, very different game and genre, but I guess there is some audience overlap.

I hope there is an audience for this and the game sells well. My favourite type of games are the ones that are realistic and let you fully immerse yourself in the world. Skyrim made great strides but I prefer less magic and stuff.

I'm not really into that realistic stuff, and besides Skyrim is far from realistic. The premise of the quests and the scope however, seems convincing and interesting to me since Skyrim really disappoint me in that regard. I hope the quest and the NPC is as detailed as they claimed to be.

I am going to pass on the crowdfunding, but will check it out when (if) it gets a release.

It looks pretty, but too much is unknown about the actual gameplay, the mechanics.

I can wait.

This really. Contain GG shit to that discussion thread, I don't give two fucks about it and I don't care for either side spilling over to videogames. I just want to play videogames.

You take that back!
But seriously, I finished Mafia 2 twice, and eventhough it was completely butchered and half the intended content was cut, I still love its atmosphere, shooting/driving and most of the storyline.

If you are interested in knowing in more detail about the design, there was a very interesting talk at Game Developer Session last year. One fan on KCD forums made english subtitles for it:
http://www.amara.org/en/videos/DLCqIZCbBSG7/info/gds-2013-dan-vavra-gamedesign-v-praxi-ii/

Less about game design, but still an interesting interview with Martin Klima, lead producer at Warhorse:

From what I understand Act 1 is a full game and Act 2 is going to add a new area + some other stuff and also new quests in the old area, same thing for Act 3. I see it like old fashioned add-ons, Act 1 is Kingdome Come: Deliverance and Act 2 is Kingdome Come: Electric Boogaloo and so on.

I'm not sure I want that
I would play it

As jim-jam said, I think the creative director pretty successfully conflated the politics with his game. I don't feel like it's particularly derailing to discuss how it's going to impact my support and I don't feel like it's our (i.e GAF's) responsibility to disentangle the two. Especially since we're not going into detail on the politics side.

On topic, this game is looking amazing, and it would be a beautiful addition to my PS4 library. Does anyone know anything about pricing?

You can pledge for the game now for 25 dollars.
When it is fully released it will be more expensive, I expect 39.99, but that is just my guess.

Man, when my partner opened up this game, the graphics just floored me. The density of foliage and grass and such just makes the game beautiful. Maybe it's because I've never really been a PC gamer (aside from a few MMO's), but man, if that's the quality of PC gaming I've been missing out. :(

PC gaming has never been better, you should really consider it. So many incredible PC games and all the best versions of multiplats..

Accurate benchmark, my 280X gets the same framerates that they measured.
I really hope I will be able to hit 60 in final game after it goes through optimization.

Not on Very High. Very High settings requirement will go up for a retail version, that is certain.

Well it will depend on what will be included in the preset...it is not very informative at the moment. I will use custom and tweak the stuff to me preference for sure.
I will be fine with simple SMAA at 1080p...I do not need SSAA or anything like that. The alpha already looks how I want it to look for the most part, graphically the main thing that should improve is the LoD, especially on grass.

They will probably get some new tech from Star Citizen.
They will improve grass LoD which will decrease performance.
They will introduce tessellation to some geometry, because its lacking.
And the most important one, the game will have much more characters on screen. Dont forget that they will include battles with hundreds of troops and sieges.

Ouch. All you wrote is true and yeah you possibly kinda dashed my hopes for better than alpha framerate. Oh well, upgrade is always possible, hopefully AMD will have some nice R300 cards next year.

This is probably the most impressive alpha gallery so far:

Its just not funny, though.

Wish he'd just quit with that shit and keep his agenda pushing out of discussions about the game.
Why not?? agenda/politics?? That GG thing or what it is is still going on???
From what i understood (http://techraptor.net/content/interview-daniel-vavra) he is just making fun of all this mostly american craziness, which just derails the discussion from the real problem to online nonsence flamewars.

Problem with KCD vs GG is that its set in realistic middle ages and surprise surprise women were discriminated hard at that time! (not the "discimination we have now"). From historical medieval point of view, and I strongly emphasize this is not my point of view, woman was the devil's tool and she should not be trusted with important work. Thus the lack of female blacksmiths, shoemakers, fishers and other... She shpuld belong to the cooking, sewing, child care, "light" manual work (like chopping wood, ie.), and she should not be trusted with weapon.
- so they are mysogynyst for staying truthful to history???

Is it politically incorrect to say that I laughed during the intro and outro ?
i am not sure anymore, i dont even know whatever "political correctness" means now - and honestly dont care. We used to laugh at extremists now they seems to be the ones who decides whats good and whats bad.

sorry for OT: i just hate whe this thing appears in the games thread
Cant wait to try alchemy - it looks pretty cool unlike other games

He is a very active participant in the whole Gamergate thing. He is definitely not just 'making fun'. And yes, it does derail the discussion, doesn't it? Which is why he should just cut it out and focus on talking about the game in these videos. Even on NeoGAF, his agenda pushing becomes impossible to ignore when he does this.

And this whole thing has *nothing* to do with the game. His attitude and views are completely separate from Kingdom Come and its themes. You clearly haven't been paying attention.

Anyways, the alchemy stuff does look cool. I like that its all being animated to actually look like you're doing this stuff and not just some generic thing like in most games.

Yeah, dat cognitive dissonance, eh?

And like Seanspeed said, his agenda has nothing to do with the contents of his game whatsoever. To say that prudislav is uninformed and barking at the wrong tree is putting it mildly.
