Most Downgraded game

I don't think anything beats Sonic Boom.

Was likely originally in development for PS4/Xbox One considering how much worse the final game looks from this footage from 2013. I don't think the Wii U could pull of what they were originally going for. Early screenshots already showed a downgrade, but even then it didn't look nearly as bad as what the final game looks like.

Man if they want to bring back goodwill - they should just do like a director's cut edition of Halo 2 or something - I would assume they still have the original plans lying around somewhere...
In that video where Bungie is going through all old Halo videos they admit all of the H2 E³ 2004 demo was fake. Everything you see is just a straighforward script.
So to rebuild the E³ demo somebody would have to build that level as a playable level for the first time

I consider a downgrade to be anything that is running on a devkit at the time and is subsequently downgraded on that same hardware.

Killzone 2 was not downgraded because it never ran on an actual PS3 devkit. No way in hell was the preview footage that was shown running on console. Regardless, KZ 2 is still an amazing looking game.

My vote goes to WD, Halo 2 (for reasons, though), and Dark Souls 2.

Can we mention Haze or was that also pre-rendered BS?

Honestly it's clear as day. It's as big a downgrade as anything out there.

40 flippin MB worth of gifs!!!

The shadow, the lighting, even the animation is less detailed

Honestly, which one is the downgrade? They both have legs up on each other in different areas and the lighting just seems to be during different times of day.

I remember reading a preview for Halo 2 saying there would be destructible environments. :(

Dark Souls 2 is my answer but it looks like it "might" be fixed later. (via PS4/XB1 - maybe)

The beta version of waterworks had some of that left over. You could destroy some pieces of the cave and have them fall.

The one with Snake looking dead inside and his mouth moving as if it as a puppet from Sesame Street is totally not the downgrade.

I keep watching it and I keep failing to see it. Both snakes look completely alive despite one having a cigarette and an eye patch.

stop posting pre rendered cutscenes must be hard for ps3 play a video. do u have gameplay to prove your point? like that bioshock gameplay or watch dogs or halo2

By that token:

same can be said for Dark Souls 2-

That version of Dark Souls 2 did exist though. People actually played it and uploaded their captures to talk over them. So either they were all in on it and uploading fake gameplay footage, or... they really did scrap that version of the game.

And I still think it's the largest visual downgrade I've seen.

Well, it's MGS4, makes sense to compare what you see on screen most of the time instead of gameplay.

From is in big customer backlash trouble anyway, but if the new version of DS2 doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the initial demos people played... oy vey.someone's getting fired.

I doubt it. I don't think any sensible person is actually expecting the new Dark Souls 2 to look like the initial demos.

And if it does, charging PC players for the graphics improvements is such a joke.

Is that really necessary? While the Uncharted 4 trailer at the end of the year looked nice, in comparison the E3 one screams bullshot.

yeah, receipts please.

I want to see if this downgrade, which is apparently so profound it qualifies as one of the most downgraded games ever made despite having only seen two separate sections of footage from a game that's not out yet, can be explained as being such a profound downgrade using technical terms. Bolded is just... legit pure crazysauce in and of itself and it makes me feel like anyone posting that shit up in here is just baiting because there's no way they're serious without the memory and analytical skills of a goldfish. I mean, I was there for the UC4 dg thread. It was a ridiculous thread and I'm still not buying that there's even a downgrade or at least not a profound one that some people seem to think they see.

The original Mass Effect. I don't think many people remember the initial reveal of that game with its destructible environments.

Plus, I agree with those who say Project Ego/Fable was the most overpromised game I ever remembered. I was extremely disappointed by it.

Coming in to this topic late, but the final Killzone 2 looked way better in real time than that initial CG demo looked. I wouldn't call it a downgrade at all.

Killzone 2.

Easy.

Bomba first post of the year lol.

On topic, Watch Dogs downgrade was horrific. Showcasing the game on monster PC rigs with custom Tradeshow graphic settings was awful.

At least gameplay stayed intact but the final version of the game left a semi bitter taste in my mouth. I fear for the Division next..

I really don't understand how people could have thought that the trailer was not CG...

Oh definitely this one too. The initial few videos showing off ME set expectations so high. What followed was a massive letdown. Not as much as what Project Ego -> Fable did, but it was still a big blow.

You obviously weren't on GAF at the time. Realtime claims stuck around for months at least.

On topic, Watch Dogs downgrade was horrific. Showcasing the game on monster PC rigs with custom Tradeshow graphic settings was awful.

And then not even bothering to support those settings in the PC version of the final game.

Doesn't matter how many times I see people say this, it will always be wrong.

Killzone 2 really isn't a good choice for the thread though, since it never really looked like that in 2005 anyways.

Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Storm 2 to Revolution; in terms of gameplay, they kept removing key elements in the combat system since the first one and all the others.

The Killzone footage obviously looks more obvious to us now in 2014 than it did to an optimistic fan base in 2005, excited about a new generation of graphics and video games.

But like I said, the final game as it ran in real time in 2009 looked so much fucking better than that CG demo.

I've not heard this before, is there anymore information at all? Google didn't help!

It's a little known fact, it will be difficult to find on the internet. The way I remember was Nintendo used to have interactive demo kiosks at Toys R Us, where you press buttons to learn more about a game. One of those games was Killer Instinct. I remember looking at was clearly the SNES game (not the arcade one) and the one hing that stuck out was out great the animations were. I really wish someone could dig that video up. I'll see if I can find it myself.

Has to be Watch Dogs especially with all the shit Ubisoft was spewing about it being THE next gen game and their shit talking of GTA. The GTA V port looks better than Watch Dogs.

If we're talking downgrades in the gameplay department, then Destiny. What a fucking mess.

Here ya go buddy: http://youtu.be/nI15BGscFac?t=3m46s

Keighley: "There was Killzone... a lot of people were excited about that. People were wondering though, y'know, was some of this stuff real, was it CGI, it looked so good. I mean, what was the sense from you? Is there some stuff in there that's just, y'know, computer smoke and mirrors?"

Tretton: "It's definitely real. I guess we're pretty good at keeping secrets because the dev kits were out there. The dev kits are very intuitive, so people did some incredible things. And that's one thing Ted wanted to make sure everybody understood, that is real gameplay everybody is seeing out there. And I think --"

Keighley: "So it is gameplay, all that stuff is all gameplay?"

Tretton: "It is gameplay."

Wasn't Tretton talking about Resistance? Though I wouldn't be surprised if he was playing dumb about Killzone, and purposely mistook Keighley for talking about Resistance. Which does bring up another downgrade in my mind, anyone remember Resistance from that e3 when it was codenamed I8?

The amount of npc's and shit happening on screen is impressive even today. Much more impressive than what Fall of Man eventually turned into.

Watch dogs and Unity.
Congrats Ubisoft.
Assassin's Creed Unity was not downgraded. Players have taken screenshots that look better than the screenshots that Ubi used for advertising.

AC games have never been downgraded, for better or worse.

Wait, wasn't there some big drama a few months back because they supposedly downgraded the PS4 version to avoid discussions? Or did that turn out to be bogus?

No that is still a legitimate downgrade. There were reports of the PS4 version hitting 1080p from Ubisoft PR and that they were targeting 60fps.

Edit:
On a PC with dual 980s and a i7 4770K looks stunning.

There was big drama because of an interview the day the final resolution/framerate targets were revealed.

There were never reports that the ps4 version was hitting 1080p. I'd like to see a link on that. They showed console footage for the first time only a month before release, and of the xb1 version. The pc version looks exactly like the gamescom demo while the console version runs the game at ultra settings and 900p.
