New The Witcher 3 Gameplay

Tried to make some kind of comparison thing so it's easier to see the diff...
The most radical difference is the equipment/cloth/armor quality really. Witcher 2 was already outstanding in that regard, and Witcher 3 improved on it further.

Makes clothing and armor in every other RPG I've ever seen look crudely painted on.

Haven't read the thread so apologies if this is being repeated but, some parts look stunning, some look... well not awful but pretty bad.

The architectural assets in particular aren't exactly pretty. Really simply geometry, flat crappy textures and obvious UV seams. Eugh.
Forest areas on the other hand, they're very impressive.

Hey guys totally of topic but I M buying a 4k TV soon and even though no games will be running at that resolution, will I see any improvements on the picture displayed on the TV?

Yeah, a lot of stuff seems a bit hastily thrown together. Which I guess isn't really all that surprising given a team this small (comparatively) trying to make a game this expansive. The best-looking stuff here might look better than DA:I, but the latter seems to have a more even level of visual quality and polish (from what I've played of it so far at least).

Watched the whole video. Game looks amazing. Maybe not absolute best graphics ever, but still amazing. The characters up close during dialogue look really good, especially considering their animation is automatic and not mocapped or hand-animated. It's a clear step-up from Witcher 2 or Mass Effect dialogue animation. When it comes out Witcher 3 will probably be the best-looking RPG.

Yeah the effects don't seem as lavish as say, the VGX 2013 trailer. Everything does look flatter and definitely not as sharp. Unity on ultra will probably come out on top as far as open-world graphics go. Personally I'm still impressed by how this game looks. As I said in another thread though, I feel like part of the reason people have these expectations is because of how far ahead of the pack Witcher 2 was, but people forget that in 2011 it was one of like two games that targeted 2011 PC tech while everything else was targeting consoles. It was a unique situation. CDPR's competition has caught up since then. Art direction is still amazing too. I just hope my 760 2GB can salvage something out of this at 1080p and the lowest AA setting.

I guess I'll get the PS4 version, I need another skyrim-like experience for current gen, and this seems the closest i'll get so far.

"Our approach has totally changed from The Witcher 1 and The Witcher 2," Iwiński tells me. He says that with the earlier games, CD Projekt Red was targeting the super-hardcore, PC-only audience that exists in the studio's home country of Poland. Now, as the series and company has grown, it wants the audience to expand as well.

"With every single game, we're adding a lot more polish and making it a lot more welcoming to the general gamer," he says. "I think this is just the way games should be done. I really admire, for example, BioWare or Bethesda for introducing its games to gamers."
why? why must you do this? staph.

I do wonder why they apparently capped the PC version at "high" at the event.

(Could of course simply be that everything above it is not yet done/stable/ready to show off)
Same reason they weren't allowing preview attendees in the major cities: "It's not optimized yet."

...but the gamepad controls in TW2 on PC were pretty bad. Which is perhaps not what you're talking about. But still.
Both control methods were bad for different reasons. I'm finding that I occasionally have to switch between them depending on the task. Namely gamepad for difficult combat and kb/M for everything else.

Looks like it has been downgraded to make the the disparity between PC and consoles not so noticeable. I find the "ultra settings aren't ready yet" explanation rather dubious in that regard. I hate to use the "P" word, but the devs have said themselves they're going for a game with wide appeal. On the plus side the system requirements for console-quality graphics will be quite forgiving.

And if that is the final running animation I will be disappointed. I don't mind a few bad combat animations, but a player is going to be looking at Geralt running 80% of the time, so it had better be a top priority to make it look good.

I will still play the game. But this thread has tempered a lot of expectations. People are realising that this isn't going to be some kind of sacred event. It's just a video game.

The game looks great on PC - the ceiling. Not sure what rig it's running on but on PS4 it will not be quite the same. Much less on the Xbox One.

Xbox One footage should set the floor for the graphics.

Has anywhere commented on the controller layout?

I'm imagining its similar to Witcher 2's control scheme.
Similar but a few tweaks in locations. The PS4 layout from another thread:

Left Stick - Movement, Steer Horse, Steer Boat, [Press] Call Horse
R2 - Cast Sign
R1 - Quick Access item
L2 - Witcher Senses, Parry/Riposte
Triangle - Strong Attack
Right Stick - Camera Movement, [Press] Change Quest Objective, [Press] Lock On Target
D-Pad - [Up] Potion 1, [Down] Potion 2,
Draw/Sheathe Steel Sword ,
Draw/Sheathe Silver Sword
Circle - Surface / Climb / Dodge / Jump, [Hold] Roll / Dismount
Square - Fast Attack, Dive, Stop/Reverse Boat
L1 - Quick Access Menu
Touchpad - Game Menu
Options - Pause Menu
X - Interact, Swim Fast, Run/Sprint, Canter/Gallop, Accelerate Boat

What did they say there that was negative? what i got from that was "we're trying to make a great game that is accessible"

accessible ≠ shallow or simple.

played through W2 this year with a 360 controller and it felt fine outside of a weird bug where the camera would swing when i would exit a building. dunno if it was the same at launch but i had 0 qualms with using a controller.

Game looks amazing, the jogging and running animations are a bit stiff, but not terrible. Pop-in is a bit distracting, but no where near as bad as say MGSV. It boggles my mind that nobody has come up with a great LOD solution yet, it's either pop-in or obvious fade-in.

i know, but when devs say that things like, most of the times its simple/shallow .

Do you all expect a 970 can run this at Ultra settings?

They already said that the same system they were running would be able to run ultra, even though it was only playing at high during the event, and that used a 980. That said, that isn't a bearing on what else could be capable of doing it. Specs are yet to come

It didn't annoy that, for example, the game has a radial menu for selecting signs and stuff, but you can't actually use it as a proper radial menu? Meaning, you can't just point the analog stick to the thing you want like one would imagine to be the whole point of such a menu system, but instead have to move the selection step by step to get there. Utterly idiotic. I ended up just using the D-pad for that, was faster.

And Geralt's movement feels very digital even though you're using an analog stick to control him, like your inputs are just translated to WASD input. Not very nice.

So no, I did not think that game had particularly good controller support. I learned to live with it, and I enjoyed the game, but yeah.

i've seen what bad and nonexistant controller support on the PC looks and feels like. The witcher 2 struck me at its worst as serviceable and completely functional compared to the other nightmares i've encountered over the years.

feeling triggered tbh. also djenge frett top bounty hunter, lel.

looked pretty good, very excited for it. this is the kind of game I love, an open world RPG. I love the atmosphere and the style. what about the story though? I haven't finished Witcher 2 yet, should I finish it?

also, do we know how big the world is? compared to skyrim for example? oh yeah the mountain bit reminded me of Skyrim, which is no bad thing.

Oh damn, really? You're sure about this?

Hmmm....

Am I correct to say that SLI 980GTX will not run this game on 60fps Ultra settings?

3DJuegos said:

So it ran at a solid 60 fps. (high settings)
