Regarding how much the X1 sales struggle outside of the US and UK market, I think the PS4 will easily take a 2:1 worldwide lead over the X1 in the coming months and will only expand on that lead.

Remember that Sony, in contrast to MS, still has the price-cut card up their sleeve.

Saleswise this generation really could be a retake of the 5th gen when all will be said and done.

Just swap the Saturn with WiiU and the N64 with X1

People dumped on them for continuing to try with the Surface, but it must have gone to a billion dollar product faster than any other new product line in recent MS history.

That's because product is great.

Of course Microsoft wouldn't be Microsoft if they didn't fuck up something so it's still officially distributed in something like 30 countries and I can't buy one locally in Poland :(

Happy to see the Surface doing well, very fond of mine. I got it through work but still, really nice piece of hardware and I`d give MS a chance for my next tablet type device.

I'm so tempted to grab one for school. Guessing you have the 3?

If anyone has the 2, how is it? If you upgraded to the SP3, how does 2 compare to it?

Yeah, I think this current gen will be split like the 5th gen.

Could see the Xbox One making up the same percentage of overall current gen consoles sold as the Xbox 360 during its gen (around 30% if I remember correctly). Sony is going to get a great boost in comparison to last gen, and Nintendo a really large drop.

No way will it reach PS2 LTD. PS2 is a legendary console and an aberration. We will likely never see a repeat of the PS2 era.. This is a very likely scenario for this gen like some one else has already said though I am sure X1 will finish higher than N64 and may infact hit closer to the 45 - 50 milion mark

Do 1 in 5 Americans really use Bing? I don't understand.

Yes because it's forked into multiple services as the search provider. For example, Yahoo search is powered by Bing.

Great numbers on the Surface Pro 3. That device is fantastic.

Solid numbers for Xbox despite taking a loss YoY to get those numbers.

"We'll offset our losses from the coming revenue those consoles will bring in. We hope."

Probably sums up their XBO strategy right there.

Sorry for the late reply but I'm actually dealing with shit at work. Fucking idiots high up on the ladder decided we needed to upgrade just as half the IT department quit. So talking with a Finish guy who is terrible at speaking English. "sorry, can you repeat that".

Anyway yes. MS can afford that. It's risky to do so in this day and age but as long as the dividends keep on coming and the stock remains strong the share holders shouldn't complain to much.

Is it an aberration because of how extraordinarily well it performed?

That and the unique set of circumstances surrounding the release of PS2. For example Japan made up a lot of that PS2 sales number, this is something that is not going to be happening in the year of 2015.

I'l be surprised if it hits 100.

If this generation is longer than 5 years it will be a huge contraction if PS4 does not reach that simply because Wii U and X1 numbers won't be anywhere near where the 2nd and 3rd place consoles were last gen sales wise.

I can see it going either way

I think this gen will be longer than 5 years. Maybe 6 or 7.

In the figures, $703 million drop in revenue.

Revenue is not the same as profit or loss. The Gross Margin actually increased for the quarter.

The Revenue was $3.9 Billion for the division. Also, the drop in revenue was $473 Million not $703. Gross Margin is $460 Million.

XB1 = 15.1m - (360 shipments Apr-Dec 2014)

360 shipments Apr-Dec 2013 = 5.7m
(0%. drop off = 5.70) XB1 = 9.4m
(10% drop off = 5.13) XB1 = 10m
(20% drop off = 4.56) XB1 = 10.5m
(30% drop off = 3.99) XB1 = 11.1m
(40% drop off = 3.42) XB1 = 11.7m
(50% drop off = 2.85) XB1 = 12.3m

How much do we believe the shipments for 360 could drop by?

40%. We already saw the 360 drop 40% in Q4 CY 2013 compared to 2012 thanks to the aunch of the Xbox One, so a consistant 40% drop seems fair.

11.7m actually looks like a very good number.

Because units aren't separated that to me is a big indication that the numbers are bad for Microsoft.

Maybe next fiscal year we will start to get separate numbers again. I hate that Sony and Microsoft does this.

IMO I would say X360 dropped a similar amount this holiday to what it did the year before (5.9m to 3.5m)

I don't think it's that easy so I doubt the validity of your assumption. This year, during the holiday, 360 had massive price reductions.

http://uk.camelcamelcamel.com/Xbox-360-500GB-Console-FIFA/product/B00KJFDIMS

in fact, the price fell low enough to boost sales during November that it was creeping up on PS4 and outsold the XB1 on the amazon bestsellers list.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/bestsellers/2014-11/videogames/ref=zg_bs_tab_t_bsar#4

This Holiday MS did to the 360 what they did to the XB1 too. Low prices to boost sales.

10.5 million Lumia devices sold in a quarter is a pretty good number. Especially considering everyone goes crazy for Apple and Samsung devices during the holiday quarter.

Very impressive. Congrats to MS.

I think Wii U & Xbox One numbers will be higher and PS4 lower. Not by much though.

I think the PS4 has a good chance of hitting PS2 numbers.

Think about it, it should have growth over the PS3 in NA now that it's not getting crushed, and it should grow in in Europe. Then, there's also growth in the rest of the world, and I think once Japanese games start hitting it should start picking up some steam there (albeit not as well as the PS3).

As for the X1, 40-45 million lifetime seems alright, 25-30 in NA, the rest everywhere else. There's really nothinf MS can do about the WW market, not this gen and not next (unless Sony screws up worse than the PS3).

That console was called the Wii, and it attracted people you would never see playing a PS360 or PSOne.

The PS4 will almost certainly have a longer life than the Wii, which Nintendo dropped like a rock after only a few years. It also had very strong competitors in the HD twins that delivered a level of "hardcore appeal" the Wii could never match. The Wii market basically moved on to mobile gaming, but a portion of the new customers Nintendo introduced to gaming will no doubt remain interested in home consoles (albeit a pretty small portion most likely)

With one horse already out of the race, I could see Sony reaching 100 million PS4's when all is said and done.
