The animation in Resident Evil 6 is nuts

Fuck the haters, I love this game. The level of mechanics in this game was crazy for a third person shooter. I'd say its up there with Vanquish as one of the more mechnically deep shooters.

I don't understand why Capcom doesn't just drop the RE name and make a straight up third person action game with these moves. All this cool shit you can do seems wasted on zombie enemies anyway. Just make a new IP maybe set it in the RE universe and have Lion and Co fighting super powered mercs or some shit.

Because Resident Evil 5 is their best selling game of all time and Resident Evil 6 is closing in on the second spot.

RE is their best selling IP.

hm yes i wonder

That was after the popular movies and some of the largest third party marketing outside of Activision at the time (and even to this day). They also changed the formula in 6 from 5 (5 was a co-op RE4 tail-chaser), so not sure if the gameplay reasoning holds up. Correlation, not causation when it comes to gameplay.

Edit: Let alone comparing a one-off on a single struggling platform to multiplatform releases. As I said before, a lot of nonsense from each 'side'. Speaking of which, anyone have a link to a Bolin gif about not taking sides and standing in a circle? Korra gifs are all focused on shipping to have any luck with specific scenes.

It's so dope. The gameplay for this game is phenomenal and I wish it was an overall better game. I wish it had been better supported with more stages and characters or just anything, the lack of DLC was disappointing... specially for a Capcom game. Too bad the negativity of this game will probably make them change alot and I fear RE7 wont be as fun to play. Even tho Revelations 2 is like RE6 Lite it doesnt have the main aspects of what made RE6 so fun to play. And with each RE game the melee is getting removed more limited. RE5 had more melee moves than RE6.

Couldn't find a better gif than this:

Queen. Whenever Jill returns in an RE game. She better still have this and the neckbreaker move. Hoping she's in Revelations 2 Raid Mode.

Is this the best melee move in RE? Yes it is.

This game looks pretty good. Why do people hate it again?

I get that it may be an out of place entry as an RE title, but is it a legitimately bad game? I hate Capcom with all my heart, but everything posted in this thread looks really fun to play.

install reshade and then copy this over
probably need to play with settings some more to get it to look right and stuff

Dunno I guess it just bugged me how far back the arms went and then jutted forward, especially with a one-handed weapon. Haven't played it in a long time but I remember it bothering me greatly.
Best example I could scrounge up. Just...not big on it :[
haha oh man yeah, i totally forgot that jake's hand-to-hand idles just generally look jank as fuck and definitely highlight the huge arm swings that the characters do when holding grenades, knives and other stuff like that.

why are you trying to justify this to me as if i run capcom
i'm just saying strictly from a sales perspective it's pretty obvious why they went from survival horror to third person action.
edit:although i swear i remember reading somewhere on here that a big reason why that shift happened is because RE:0 flopped and RE4 kept on exploding though rather than REmake being any kind of a sales failure so hmm

most of the game is bad given that most of the insanely massive campaign is genuinely astonishingly terrible or marred by extreme lows in general
the core gameplay system is good but the only modes you can really go nuts with it are mercenaries and onslaught

A resident evil thread filled with positivity? Thanks gaf.

This, IMO RE5 is much, much more impressive animation wise; the animations are much tighter.

Look at this awesomeness:

I love how he closes his fist slowly, but then the intensity just ramps up, making chris fly into a fucking rage punch.

RE6's animations might be better technically, but I feel RE5 trumps it on presentation.

People looking for an oldschool RE game will be dissapointed, The pacing of the single player and it's campaign is atrocious and filled with stupid sections that shouldnt have been included (im looking at you Roomba room). The Bosses are all gimmicks and leave alot to be desired especially in terms of presentation and design.

That said, everything else is sublime, the enemy design is something unique in this game, nearly every enemy you kill can spawn as a different form when doing enough damage, and each has their own unique attacks and weaknesses. Combat can be approached a variety of ways once you understand the controls. This game was made for Co-op in mind and is ten times more satisfying playing with a partner than it is solo so it's good to remember that as well.

Well the thread is focusing on the combat which is by far the best aspect. Unfortunately the level design is lacking and it has the worst QTEs ever. This is separate from the old-school RE fans hating what RE became.

Some levels are really fun, like when you need to evade a Nemesis-like creature as Jake & Sherry. Some are crap, like a motorcycle on-rails sequence where you shoot enemies around you. Basically they introduce too many sequences that either don't let you mess around with the core combat or are otherwise over-the-top. This is why you hear some say Mercenaries is way better than the Campaign.

I actually really dislike what they did with some of the animations in RE6. Everyone sprinting looks like a runningback, and the elaborate melee and grapple moves are ridiculous and remove any sense of swift power from the attacks (and become tiresome after using them over and over). All the dumb spinning/flipover DDTs and hurricanranas with no impact don't stack up to RE4/RE5's simple, more hard hitting moves. It's like fighting zombies/infected enemies with the people who do Yukes mocap for the WWE games.

I like the ideas in the combat system, and especially the dive/crawl mechanic and quick time counters, but the execution for almost everything in the game leaves a lot to be desired. I wish they would just tighten it all up and use the combat system for a straight up mega action shooter.

RE6 is such a fun game to play. It sort of slacks on some other levels such as pacing, but the game is simply awesome to play. I put over a hundred hours into mercenaries when it came out, and got more than a couple top 5 leaderboard spots. The game just allowed for a really high skill ceiling.

Damn now I wanna play it. Don't really wanna break out the ole 360 though.

I've always wanted to try out resident evil 6 because people on GAF said it's actually fun. I know the majority hated it. But there seems to be a niche group of people that say it's fun as its own thing. So I'm kind of curious to check it out at some point.

The campaigns are pretty uneven, and it doesn't explain it's gameplay mechanics very well. This leads to people playing it like a standard cover shooter, and thinking it's not a very good one.

I love the game now, but I really hated it to begin with. It makes a bad first impression.

are we posting re5 gifs now
i only have one but it's a good one i think

i think that most of the re5 melee attacks look better but have the massive advantage of being in a significantly more limited mechanics environment (though i can't say why that would affect it that much) that allows their camera and attack animation uh, 'pacing'? to be wildly different

Better than Resi 4, and I fart on anyone who disagrees.

It's like a humungous action film with an infinite budget, multiple main characters and countless insane set pieces. The hate it gets baffles me.

All these gifs make me want current gen HD remasters of RE5 and 6 (I played on 360).

Just get the PC versions for cheap. RE5 works well even on old hardware, and I'm sure RE6 does too.

Resident Evil 5 on PC looks fantastic and is a really well-done port, AND it's removing GFWL from it later this year. If when it removes GFWL it also adds the Gold Edition DLC, then it will truly be the best version of RE5 hands-down.

I've played 1-5 but I never gave 6 a shot.
You definitely should give it a go. Especially since it's so cheap now. Easy pick up in the 10-20 dollar range. Since you'll still end up having mercs mode. PC recommended if you can get it.

We had a intersting analysis in the Capcom 5 thread a few weeks ago. RE was really on the decline sales wise on both PS2 and GC until the movies and RE4 pushed the action change.

What I disliked most about RE6 was the way that enemies reacted when shot. That was something they nailed in 4 and 5 but lost in 6. It often made the enemies feel more like simple bullet sponges.

The shooting in this game was a step down from RE4 and 5. Felt like crap.

Meleeing enemies and Mercs were fun but that's about the extent of that.

Now I want to play Resident Evil 6 again. I have absolutely loved the direction they have been going with this franchise, I hope they keep the crazy gameplay going.

Love RE6 combat system, campaign story, not so much. BUT, i do love playing as Jake thanks to his hand to hand combat. Beating a shit load of zombies using him is very fun.
