Bloodborne gameplay : The first 18 minutes

I think the problem we are seeing now stems from the fact that the Souls series gained too much popularity and is now something that all the posers and crybabies that comprise the casual gaming crowd have set their sights on.

All of From's games thus far have not been technical marvels by any stretch, and Bloodborne might not be any different. The game looks amazing in much the same way Demon's Souls and Dark Souls looked amazing. Now we have a bunch of people looking for benchmark nonsense.

I remember before Demon's Souls became a thing, we had threads with many excited fans who couldn't wait to play the game because the world and gameplay looked superb and fresh. Now the same threads are littered with people who are focusing on graphical fidelity above all else. We have a bunch of people coming in here to say they are not interested in the game, but the game looks bad and boring. I wonder how many of the naysayers are paid astroturfers.

Wow, was that bad.

Extremely repetitive enemy design, canned sound effects, NPCs that still have no animations, a bland looking protagonist that still gets stuck behind corners - all wrapped up in a colourless landscape.

I know it's Dark Souls, but that was a pretty horrid first impression, imo.

Truly looked like a shallow revision of an aging concept.

Also, part of what was really jarring to me was the beginning when the character is payable just after the animation of him getting off the table.

It looked too robotic at times - like the natural fluid movements were cut by sudden changes in direction.

It's not a problem if you want more of the same, but I think I can drop off the ds train if there isn't much of an evolution in the formula.

Well color me surprised. You voicing negative sentiment about a PS4 game?!?! Perish the thought!

On the Uncharted Series

Looking back, I have to say that Uncharted was marketed very well, but ultimately the entire series is a bit bland and generic. I think that is partly due to the genre of these games though.

On Uncharted 4

He's got a really ugly nose.

This reminds me a lot of the fakery that was done with another first party effort - Killzone 2. So I'm not surprised that they would try this.

So they weren't competely honest about the visual fidelity and now the frame rate?

This will leave a bitter taste in the mouths of some people who have been following this game from the beginning.

Well I am not sure if that's true because there appears to be a significant difference in detail - both with Drake's model and the environment.

If we are going with geometry (as far as I could understand such a concept), his face appears to have a much higher quality in the E3 reveal, whereas the impression I got from the PSX demo was that it looks on par with other games from this generation.

I am sure I cannot be the only one who has this impression, which really is the focal point.

I mean, we can talk about technical jargon until we are blue in the face, but what is important is the general impression someone has when presented with both videos.

Maybe there is some visual trickery, like time of day, but I cannot imagine it would equate to such a difference in appearance.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree then because it was so jarring a difference to me that I do not believe it was a change in lighting or the other reasons you've given.

Also, this is the second time I have been unfairly accused of trolling
when I am simply pointing out the graphical difference I've noticed from the two videos.

I just looked at both vids again.

Yea, his face is nowhere near as detailed as it is in the E3 vid. It's blatantly obvious to most people and you do not need to be aware of graphical terminology to see the difference.

There are some youtube videos about this and if you want to discuss the actual details, you can address those or ask someone who is more educated than I am as I'm just going by what I see.

On SFV

I think SF is falling into a niche crowd on PS platforms so it kinda makes sense.

On RE: Remaster

Gamecube one looks better to me.

So much concern must be truly exhausting. You might want to cut back before you give yourself an ulcer.

I've spent some more time with the new video for Bloodborne, and I've reached some more conclusions

First, this has been said before, but "Blood Echoes" are not Soul Memory. The naming convention is strange, but you spend blood echoes to buy things in the Hunter's Dream. I was wrong about this, until I dug deeper into the screens. It is not absolutely clear, but it seems that blood echoes are the equivalent of "blood" they could still technically be separate, but I doubt it.

So called "trick weapons" don't have stat scaling. So far. Perhaps this is the tradeoff you make for their versatility?

The Sun is out. It's not just that Yarnham is depicted at dusk here. You can see the sun is relatively high in the sky.

Consumable Items are more important than ever before. As you can see here, Firebombs (and even pebbles for that matter) have damage that scales with stats. Firebombs scale with strength and scale at an "A" with the arcane stat. This to me indicates that magic isn't happening, because it looks your arcane stat is going to drive the effectiveness of items and specialized technological weapons. Since you can by firebombs from the start, I expect to use them more, for a longer portion of the game than before.

There is one conspicuous slot that forces me to not fully rule magic out. That box in the top right sure looks mysterious, maybe even magical?

Game design seems really strong. The game is packed with environmental cues. Here, a dog is growling at an otherwise invisible NPC. Little hints like this are the hallmark of the good design that FROM is known for.

Look at that carpet texture. No big deal here. I just think is it looks great in the video.

Insight Stat: Due to its placement on the character sheet, I expect insight to have some relationship to PvP. Insight may indicate your ability to perceive other players as human rather than beasts and therefor interact with them. This is all conjecture, but I think "Bold Hunter's Marks" provide you with the humanity-like stat to open the door to PvP. Why else would a fellow hunter hand them to you?

About time someone called him out lol. Those posts are only the tip of the iceberg, dig through his post history and you'll see that shit never ends.

Don't worry about it man, it's clear the area design is more Dark than Demon's (large areas, links between areas, shortcuts). I kind of wish they aped the Dark system wholesale with upgrading at lanterns/bonfires, estus flasks, no hub but I'm willing to give the a chance to convince me otherwise.

I haven't read the thread, but this conversation does pop up in basically every thread hyping a new Souls game. Their one glaring minus has always been very modest technical graphics. The Souls games have always looked good primarily due to art direction. And thus far, no Souls game on a console has been able to maintain a steady 30fps.

I think Bloodborne looks incredible, aliasing and framerate aside.

(First of all I'm obviously buying the game, and I've spent well over 100 hours each with Demon's, Dark Souls, and Dark Souls 2.)

But I have to say, I'm somewhat disappointed by what I just watched. The game still has the Souls game clunkiness, the visual design varies between "ok" and bad (opinion), and goddamn it I like shields.

Wow, was that bad.

Extremely repetitive enemy design,
It's the first fucking 18 minutes and we already saw diseased villagers, werewolves, dogs, giant flightless crows, ogres, and a giant constantly screaming monster with 80s hair.

How on Earth is that repetitive?

EDIT: Oh wow you care way too much about console wars.

Is it just me, or does nothing cast shadows? Like neither the player nor enemies. Only reason I ask this is because I noticed it in the Chalice Dungeons video from a few days ago.

That's some interesting stud\ff you noticed! Especially that insight stat. I have no idea what it could be.

It's just a temporary hub anyways.

I'm finally doing the same. Makes life so much more pleasant.

All this talk about Nexus 2.0 is really turning me off. I don't want another stage selection screen =/

Dream Refuge does seem to be separate from Yharnam, with "arch stone"-esque contraptions (in the form of tombstones), but we don't know yet how disjointed it is.

The overworld could be completely connected up, and the "Nexus" itself could be a lot more than just a hub. We simply don't know at this point.

It's just a temporary hub anyways.

Other than the shimmering, looks great. I can't wait to get this. I never played a Souls game before. This should be awesome. PEACE.

Woah Woah Woah!

Holy crap.

This is beyond creepy, that I've been labeled this through a cut and paste of past posts.

Like I said, anyone who wants to play this game is more than welcome to. Hell, I competely forgot this was a PS4 exclusive, my opinion would have been the same even if it wasn't.

And I have made it clear that this is entirely my opinion and yes, that means it can be wrong.

Wow.

I just.

dragonfart post if ur ok

Edit: late

Yea.

I think my problem is that I'm just not impressed by incremental change so really this thing is a bit 'meh' for me.

On the flipside, that roguelike dungeon randomizer idea is pretty awesome guys.

I am sure this will definitely be a fun game.

Enjoy it.

I get what you're saying, I too was expecting a little more given the jump in hardware and development time, but I also think the game looks great as it is and as I said in another post, the art and atmosphere is enough for me to look over any technical shortcomings.

As for the gameplay, goes without saying it's going to be as engaging and entertaining as the previous Souls games.
