As beautiful as the game looks graphic wise what is the deal with the black bars? That is a reason for me to pass, will there be an option to play without bars?

It could get annoying if there are many of those, tbh.

From watching the 1hr vid, the game is filled with many forced walking sequences when you can listen to people talking and whatnot but none of the NPCs react to you and there isn't anything for you to do but trigger the next cutscene. Granted, it is the first chapter so there's bound to be an emphasis on exposition and tutorials, but still annoying nonetheless if the game keeps it up.

Its like they tried to put as many post-processing effects into this as possible.

I hope they didn't forget lens-flares.

Only if you zoom in with your TV or play on a projector and increase the image til the bars go off the screen.

I thought I read in one of these threads that the game lets you skip (run) during forced walk segments

Please. Ryse on Xbox One deserves to be a mark for comparison. People can bring up things like 900p all they want (hello, 1920x800). The character models and lighting in Ryse is great. Some of the best faces and hair I've seen, easily beating Infamous. I believe that's where the big comparison is coming from: the character models.

Character Models maybe, but heck Infamous was 1080p, 30FPS+, and open world, so yea. Ryse on the X1 looked great for a launch title (though it was still linear, 900p, and didn't even have a consistant frame rate) but it's not comparable to the Order, not even close (outside of maybe the faces, maybe). If it's Ryse on a beefy PC vs the Order then maybe it's comparable but at that point it's just stupid to compare. Of course a $800+ PC will put out better visuals than a $399 year old machine.

The Order is that res because of artistic choice too, and it shows.

RaD wanted to make it look more cinematic and went with a different Aspect Ratio. The results speak for themselves, imo. I love it's look.

God forbid this game from being anywhere near as terrible as Ryse, I couldn't stand that game. I honestly can't understand how anyone can like that(I played on PC and couldn't give a shit to its graphics). That game is a stinker.

A thread of screenshots of a game, and you people lose your minds that people say what they think of the screenshots shown, and then somehow accuse all the on topic posts of being 'shitposting' or 'concern trolling' .
Stating you think something looks stupid or bad or overused is not concern trolling btw, if you're going to use the term to try to shut down discussion (because that's what you're trying to achieve) at least use it right.

I would agree with this statement at first glance but when you dig deeper and look at some of these "critical" comments based on post history (including yourself)it's clear that some people are simply looking for any possible way to look down on a game that we all know you and everyone else has no desire to play to begin with. The desperation to fault this game at any chance some people(*cough* PC gaf *cough*) exhibit is becoming rather pathetic.

Artistic choice I guess but will honestly annoy the heck out of me.

Infamous looks great but I was more impressed with the graphics in Ryse.

Wouldn't that cut some lateral image space too?

Yes. There was some guy in another thread talking about putting his PS4 on 480p and then zooming and cropping or some crazy nonsense. lol

I don't mind forced walking segments at all, in fact, I like them. What the person I replied to said was that there was a small, non-controllable cut-scene just to show Galahad cross the street, which I don't mind if they are on the few side. If there's many of those throughout the game though, it can get somewhat annoying.

Crazy how good this game looks. I just hope the frame rate is stable enough throughout.

I was super impressed by InFamous last year, but this is already way ahead of that.

Yeah this will probably be a complaint. I had to reevaluate my expectations based on the leaked gameplay from last night. I was expecting something like TLOU where's you're walking and talking but there's multiple points where its a cutscene for mundane things. Specifically there's a cutscene in that 1-hour gameplay video at the 40:20 mark where Galahad is just walking across the street and its a cutscene. When I saw it I was like but why?

There's nothing happening beyond the walking? Because if so, then that cutscene is beyond stupid.

Another gaffer found a solution to the black bar problem, here you go:

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=151109006&postcount=1284

lower the PS4 resolution to 480p

After KZ2 with its amazing art, motion blur, filters, postprocessing, and CG-ish look, I think this is the next game that feels that way and beyond. Game looks great in motion just like the KZ2. Remember those amazing KZ2 gifs, I think we will need a gifs thread for this game too :)

Looks like those screenshots people take of games with injected film grain, depth of field and blur. Lots and lots of it too.

What's at least equally pathetic is you popping up in every Order thread and apparently checking everyone's post history as soon as something not 100% positive gets posted. Also bringing up PC GAF day in, day out trying to construct some kind of conspiracy.

Same. Ryse looks nice but plays horribly. Ditto for inFamous SS and Killzone. If The Order can deliver graphics and gameplay, I'll be incredibly happy. They still haven't shown me enough gameplay to interest me enough to pre-order though. Reviews and gamer impressions will factor a lot in my decision to buy or wait.

Yeah there are several points, but especially that one where the camera cuts away and the character just walks or moves or climbs but for a very short while and I don't know how this is gonna work in the overall game. It might get frustrating

Why am I not suprised you (based on your post history) would blame all criticism of the game on PC gaf...

I'd be in the dick
Haha I've seen you say this in just about every The Order: 1886 thread, there should be an auto response from now on when someone says that. Oh and I completely agree with you.

I get why people think it would work but I just want them to understand why it's a bad idea.

Second Son "plays horribly"? I disagree with that statement, the game was quite good, and gameplay was incredibly smooth.

What's pathetic are attempts like yours to squelch all conversation that isn't 100 percent positive. It's a discussion forum. If you can't handle that, leave.

Yes, I think the gameplay is horrible. And I loved the first two games. SS is a string of 5 quests repeated over and over and over with a smattering of uninteresting story missions strewn about.

In the cut scenes and extreme close ups, I agree, but in regular gameplay I'm not so sure. Ryse and InFamous seem very comparable to me, despite one being open world, having a better AA solution, better frame rate, and a higher resolution. Personally I feel like The Order easily supersedes both.

Damn. I platinumed Infamous and still forget how good it looks

I thought the black bars in Dragon's Dogma would bother me, but after a few minutes you stop even noticing. Not a big deal, imo.

Screenshots don't do this game justice because of the motion blur.

Try pause during an action scene of a film an it comes out just as blurry. That's what RAD is going for - emulating a camera and all its properties, including shutter speed.
