Guessing Poison is going to turn out pretty good at this rate.

lol, japan.

It's just better to play Akuma in an Evil Ryu-ish mindset now, the reward for combos is guaranteed, but DWU royally screwed up the more rewarding forms of setplay.

So true, the changes to him since USF4 came out basically turned him into Evil Ryu lite in terms of him being another hit confirm into big damage with 2 bars. He doesn't deal quite as much damage, but it's still very good. He still retains some his good/annoying stuff like the walk speed, an actual good teleport, air fireballs, and so on. After all is said and done, still top tier lol.

Going through the XRD Tutorial.. really reminding me of Blazblue which I quit within the same day (shoutouts to blockbuster)

Hopefully I stick with this longer than KOF

Daigo was playing Akuma in that way too when he was trying out the character if I remember right.

Killer Instinct should have been in Iron Galaxy's hands from the beginning, they are making me want to buy the game with Riptor and Aganos.

People forgetting Skullgirls got an exhibiton on Evo's main stage, if this new Dissidia doesn't hit consoles it won't even get that. :lol

(it should, though)

Doesn't she wear a sports bra? Why the fuck can we see her nipple poking through her shirt? Not to mention the part where the bra starts looks really bad on the far side. Big ass gap of nothingness.

Also thinking about it the only SF female characters I actually like are Chun-Li and Ibuki. Everyone else is pretty meh or bad designs

Daigo was playing Akuma in that way too when he was trying out the character if I remember right.

He played a more footsie/defensive oriented Akuma, But that was before all the nice Akuma buffs like the far fierce, cl. MK, and fireball which all make a huge difference now. I always assumed he switched back to Ryu because he wasn't as successful or didn't enjoy playing him since he didn't have all the benefits from playing that style that he does now.

Yeah, the tutorial is just a gauntlet of shit. I don't think for a second that it's newbie friendly even if the information is all there.

breh I'm still going through the tutorial

this shit is disheartening right off the bat. theres like 8 different ways to block and shit

There is 2 and just defend.

How the hell do you guys play fighting games.

There is normal blocking, Just defend which is just tapping back to block to recover faster from block stun, and fauntless defense which is basically push blocking.

Then Alpha counters.

Then RC's to cancel whatever.

Then burst.

The end.

do what i do and dont even bother thinking about applying them all the time, just when it's 100% vital (FD in air kinda shit)

just go for the basics and learn your dumb oki thing and play it out from there imo

Yup, this is the way to learn the game. You don't need to know ALL the mechanics right away. GG has always been easy to pick up and learn and have fun with it.
Unlike BlazBlue where you pretty much need to know just about everything about a character and the system mechanics to have fun

Different ways to guard in GG was easy to learn for me because of Melee. It's almost the same thing. It's just now you can switch between during blockstun.

Plus learning how to use the different types of blocks isn't that crucial compared to BB (which the majority of players I come across still don't know how to use it properly).

You can't even fucking win some match ups in BB unless you know that stuff LOL

Seyavesh's got the right idea, though it is still daunting even after two months to juggling the options available when you're more comfortable. The worst feels come from moments where you go "should I do this for that or that for this" and get bopped in the though process. :lol

I come from Street Fighter my nigga

we hold back to block. thats it, nothing else

this shit got

fauntless defence
roman cancels
regular defence
Instant blocking
Psych Bursts
air blocking
blitz shield

like nigga.. I'm just trynna hold back why I gotta do all this extra shit, lemme chill yo

Not really sure if the former exists, would need some other shots of the figure. The source art for the figure didn't have that, so it's not too likely that it's anything outside of maybe the lighting making it look that way.

The latter is a flaw, but all things considered the end product doesn't look like anything besides really good. Whoever sculpted this one did a great job.

I'm still teaching Steve H gg mechanics, and he ain't bad.

You don't need to know or understand the entire system to play. The gist of all the system mechanics is the same as any decent fighting game: be active, touch 'em, and don't get touched.

If you wanna know why that one time you got hit hurt way more than the other times you got hit, then you can delve deeper, but it's not like knowing that is going to change how you play.

this shit is like the calculus of fighting games while street fighter is basic addition

Well I wont argue that, to use that example don't try to skip to the end of calculus class and be stuck confused at wtf the fuck everything means. Take the time to focus on the basics before getting to the advanced stuff.

play games without totally understanding how it works brehs

Psh back in the day my friends and I got hype over Sol badguy trip into super. You don't need to know every little thing about the game upfront.

Edit: A majority of it will just come into understanding from playing and seeing other people apply things as well.

Stuff like this reminds me again that Vampire Savior in this day and age would never fly.

Not that there's even going to be one.

I'm trying to remember specifics about Vsav that wouldn't fly besides the "everyone was Akuma" style super inputs and some renda stuff.

Edit: Re: Xrd, one thing I need to get better about is people pressing Blitz in response to my own successful Blitz. It hurts so much when you work hard for that read and get hit with it yourself because why not? :lol

Pushblocks involved multiple button presses, and you had a higher success rate after each button press. Whatever button ends up activating the pushblock ends up being the distance. Renda was like getting additional frame advantage off of linking light attacks. Also the only supers you could cancel into were the raging demon inputs iirc. Lots of crazy fun stuff.

bbcp is a lot more fun for me than xrd, but that's mostly because the character gameplay designs in blazblue are like an order of magnitude more unique and compelling imo

Oh I literally just remembered pushblock as I looked at my post and refreshed the page. :lol

Yeah, I don't see Vsav/the Darkstalkers series retaining stuff like that as it existed. It'd probably all get simplified to Marvel style pushblock inputs and SFIV ultra inputs/Marvel super inputs.

While anime fighters have always been complex by comparison to SF, starting off by attempting to grok every single mechanic would be disheartening for any fighting game. Just play, pick Leo, and worry about the complexities later.

How playable is Xrd on a pad?

I've been playing with a pad and with my character it hasn't been so bad, although I'm apparently not using real air dashes (instant air dashes) as per critique I've received playing the game.

I don't even know how that works on the pad if at all.

Anime games just can't win. I've run into the same complaints with my friends learning GG lately. I feel like if SF4 had a comprehensive tutorial that went deeply into stuff like crouch techs and kara canceling and option selects and armor canceling and proximity blocking and everything right out the gate, everyone would call it hard too.

Instead it doesn't even explain links properly or, hell, tell you which moves have startup invincibility and so it's 'easy to learn'. Never mind that everyone's had 6 years to learn stuff by now or something.

Yes i'm bitter my friends never even bothered to give GG, BB or Persona a fair shot. Or -anything- outside of SF4 and SFxT and Injustice.

You're on the ball. It's all perception. Every fighting game is too easy and too difficult in the same breath.
