Yes.

I have not, but based on a lot of readings about this matter, since I do enjoy some replay value in SP focused games, it seems it is non-existent.

Of course, like some people say, you can go back to it if you like and replay as much as you want to experience this again. But elements that raises a game replay value there's pratically none:
-The collectables, if I'm not mistaken, are not trackable, so you don't know wich chapter to go back to collect them.
-There's no unlockable content such as skins, weapons and stuff.
-Weapons has no upgrades during the campaing, so you won't experience them differently in your next playthrough.
-There's no unlockable difficulties.
-There's no trophies based on the difficulty level either.
-Cut-scenes are not skippable.
-No NG+ either.

I can not justify paying $60 for this. I just can't....

Add in the "short" campaign, and man, this is like a bargain bin pickup.

I am so fucking pissed at RAD. This was supposed to be the next big IP for PS4. Now its a 65 metacritic bomb.

I want to support them, but my God. Its worse for me since in Canada, games are $70.

Man fuck this. Sorry RAD, I can't do it. Shit.

it's only console warz ammo bro, it's not that serious
Besides, how do you know you won't like it? Did you play it?
I bet when I play this tomorrow I'll rate it higher than Killzone 2 and Dragon Age, because those games bored the hell out of me (see how opinions works...I thought the TLOU sucked too...because I thought it would be uncharted with guns...shit wasn't my cup of tea at all...)

Opions are opinions...nothing more

Haha what happened?

I asked the guy "Hey do you have any copies of The Order 1886?" "Hmmm, let me check." He goes for the computer. Never a good sign, because they always see the release date. So I went to say "The site says you guys have it in stock", because that's worked for me before. They usually just go "Oh, I'll go check out back then" and end up selling me one. But what I actually said was "W-w-well your site has the green check. L-l-like it says there's stock. I think." He finished typing and just looked at me and said "yeah come back and pick one up tomorrow."

Critical reviews are one thing, that tweet convo & the IGN post...I don't know any other industry where the supporting media behave like that publicly. Music critics especially slag off bends even when they give them good reviews but it's always on private channels.

Pretty shoddy.

Come on man. Actors, directors and musicians get ripped on on national television. Let alone their work. Conan? Fallon? Letterman? Leno?

Despite that, no one has attacked RaD personally. Just the game.

$70 is a lot for me man. Trust me, I'm a Playstation fan through and through. I try and support all the first party devs as much as I can, so I'll pick up even a decent game from them.

Add to the fact that I love RAD. Their games was the biggest reason i even bought a PSP. They were looking at maybe becoming the next Naughty Dog. The setting was interesting, and the graphics looked gorgeous. They just had to nail the gameplay which to me seemed like a no-brainer.

But man, 65 on metacritic. And plus all those bullet points I quoted. It just pisses me off because they MUST have known what they were doing. That this shit wouldn't fly.

I can't justify paying $70 for this. I just can't. I would hate myself for it.

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.

It'll be ok...just look forward to another game, there are plenty out there.

You don't have to skip the game. The price will only go lower. Wait out a bit until some cheap used copies appear or when the game reaches a price point you can justify.

I think a short single player only game like this will drop in price pretty quickly.

I feel sorry for RAD but they had to know some of this was coming .
For eg a TPS with no NG+ or unlockables in this day and age is crazy.

I honestly don't understand this way of thinking. Why are you playing in the first place? Is it just to unlock stuff and play it again harder? These things should be minor footnotes to the overall experience and yet they're now seemingly mandatory.

Contra 3 is a short game with no unlockables which happens to be one of my favorites of all time. The variety was in the game proper. That was 23 years ago though.

Game got delivered a day early by post so I've had around 3 hours with the game to give you my first impressions

Tech points first.

I have to admit at first the cinematic black bars seemed weird to me but I grew into it as I played more. The graphics are stunning from the environment to the object physics to the character detail. You can really see the effort they put into the art direction. Just from remembering when I first watched the gameplay and cutscene trailers, I could see that there was absolutely no downgrade in graphics. Different costumes and image filters yes, but no graphical downgrade.

From a tech and graphical standpoint, I'd say the only gripe I have is the motion blur when you move the camera around. Unless you pan the camera around at a pretty slow rate, the textures lose their sharpness which is a bit of a niggle for me when I'm trying to take in the environment by walking slowly and panning the camera around like they do in the trailers.

And on to more game/story related impressions. No spoilers mentioned so don't worry.

When playing this game I make a conscious effort to take my time with the game, which is mostly done by not running to the next objective unless there really isn't much to see or do. Personally I don't mind this as I pre-ordered The Order knowing well that it's a very linear story driven shooter. I agree with other people that it's almost like an interactive movie but with solid shooter components and fun and creative gadgets and weaponry.

I think two of the biggest things that will catch people off when playing the game is the slower-than-usual-pacing and linearity. My advice is don't delve into the game expecting to be blown away by the story despite the amazing setting (because the graphics will at least!). Understand that the devs had the aim of telling a story through a cinematic video-game experience and if you're up for that, then give the game a go.

I can't say much for total playtime since I'm about 3 hours in but I am still entertained by the story and the setting. The same can be said for the 3rd person shooter mechanics (do yourself a favour and turn on hard mode and even aim assist).

Most importantly - I'm enjoying what I've seen and played so far.

edit: I really have to state that I've not seen a game as good looking as this either on my PS4 or PC. I have genuinely nothing to critique about the graphical quality and polish of the game and I still feel like that's an understatement. At the moment I'd say it's incomparable with anything on the market but I don't mind someone proving me wrong. I mean technically RAD have an unfair advantage with the cinematic aspect ratio heh

It's just different strokes for different folks. I've never been interested in playing through Uncharted more than once, or the collectibles in it, or the multiplayer.

But I'm not saying they're a bad thing to have. It is what it is.

im really curious for the salesfigures. i have a hunch that it will sell rather good despite poor reviews. i mean it has good marketing and all the buzz give it a huge exposure. i also did not red a lot of "PREORDER CANCELED!". in fact most peeps say that they are dissapointed by the reviews but will see for themselfes when their copy arrives. :D

ps: thx for the gif. the muzzleflash from the shotgun is just brilliant oO

Dude, it's ok. It's also understandable.

Get another game you think is worth your time and money, and if you're still interested in The Order, get it along the line at a price you think is affordable.

Your money, you gotta spend it how you see fit.

However Metacritic is horrible way to judge if a game is worth buying, look no further than Halo MCC and its 85 in rating.

How's the gore in the game? What I've seen it looks pretty cool with actual bullet wounds and damage decals. Will some of the larger weapons make significantly more damage gore-wise?

Yeah, I know that might sound like I'm mentally disturbed but it's such a immersion-breaking experience when you play a shooter and there isn't any visual damage on the npc's. I hate it.

There's a lot of mutilation and the occasional body part on the ground from the commotions that you tend to run into during the story. However whenever you do see gore or mutilations or blood, it is all very appropriate to the situation you would be in and I have not once felt or thought that they gone overboard with the gore and stuff.

Another reason for the 18 rating is probably due to some nudity in parts of the game. But again, all appropriate used within the context of the story and the current situation

As someone more of a critic towards the order (have been for months) i'm still itching to pick it up. I think i'll assurely pick it up maybe once it's lowering in prices. New console games in switzerland are absurdely expensive (80 to 90 francs, which is about the same in USD) and Toukiden Kiwami, Sickdark Souls and Final Fantasy Type-0 comes out soon so...i'll have to wait ;_;

Despite the numerous criticism I and others have against the game, I think it still looks pretty fascinating, if not only for the technical marvel

I hope this ends up a plus game so more people can play it and make up their minds for themselves. Like I said they didn't quite hit out the park with this one but they definitely can with another try.

Bailed out of the review thread. Not posting in here again until I have the game in my hands.

Those of you who got it early - hope you enjoy it! I'll be sharing impressions on the weekend.

Finally finished it, just moments ago.

- Game time : 6 hrs 38 mins

- Sound design really stood out for me. I jumped on this right after finishing Dying Light and those guns sounded like pea shooters. The gunfire sounds are so satisfying in this game.

- Gorgeous game, an absolute beauty to behold.

- Loved the campaign, story and the characters. Galahad was a fun protagonist to cheer for.

- Only gripe I could think of was the stealth sections...but that's my staple for any forced stealth section in a non-stealth game.

That's it, really. I'm going to need to decompress before I get my thoughts together. I'm sold, I want to see a sequel.

Also, what's happening in the review thread? I keep hearing...things but I'm too afraid to check it out.

Nice job with the OT, Skux! I'm excited for tomorrow, even with the mediocre reviews. I'm a big fan of cinematic experiences, so this looks right up my alley :)

Eeeh, unlikely :< but i'll try to get it in good conditions.
Might be cruel to say but it might show up in the resell bin pretty early. But hey, all the better for me and the ones more hesitant to pick it up. If they see it at a lower price at least

Evidently you shouldn't have enjoyed it, you did something wrong.

Well, I've got my copy. It's just installing now while I get a bite to eat and then I've got a couple of hours to play before I need to call it a night. Pretty excited; gonna turn out the lights and turn up the volume with my headphones on!

I am in the same boat as you man...I still buy games but the last 3 games I bought and played are over 100 hours game,Far Cry 4,Dragonn Age and Assassin's Creed Unity...and theres even multiplayer in those games that I barely touched...why is this 10 hour game, with absolutly no incentive to replay the same fucking price...I will rent it tomorrow.

The more people that come in here and share impressions the more that I see a disconnect between the players experience and the reviews. Pretty weird actually.

Appreciate it. Will probably have to get this down the line when my backlog empties out.
