I really like the gunplay in this. First impressions are positive.

Fantastic visuals, excellent atmosphere, good combat and interesting characters.

Oh hey! I like that too, but I call it "Spectacular Failure". They reached for the stars and failed in the most spectacular Challenger-esque way, but I appreciate the attempt.

Heh. Spectacular Failure is a novel way to put it. But I don't think these things are bad necessarily, some of them can be quite worth the purchase. Usually, they have a good merit about them, and of course in the Challenger explosion there was not much merit in it... one had to look at what the intention of the mission was to take away any positive from that tragic event :9

For me a "Beautifully Ugly" product has to have some element that is clearly good to it - visuals, story, etc - to be worth calling a beautifully ugly for how poorly it handled its other elements.

Hey I liked Cloud Atlas :) But no "Beautifully Ugly" will always be a missed opportunity and a disappointment for me.

Haha, I can't say I liked Cloud Atlas, but I was impressed by it if it made sense. I watched it like six times so far, obsessed with analyzing it and discussing it with friends. So in some ways I got more value out of this movie than some of my favorites, like Christiane F.

EDIT: I don't understand how you can repeat something you didn't like, Ami. Enlighten me please! Specially since I really liked that movie.

People who have played it can call it what they want. You haven't played it, they have. Huge difference.

He's not entirely wrong though.

Just arrived from JB HiFi, my sackbody is ready.

With Uncharted 4, Zelda, Xenoblade, The Witcher 3, Bloodborne and MGSV? Impossible.

Yeah, I'd say that The Order is not going to be one of the best games of the year because of the amount of other very anticipated games that are coming out this year, and not because it sucks.

Also, thanks for your impressions DevilFox, it lines up pretty well with what I thought of the game and the reviews of it. Shame. Here's hoping that RAD is able to make another one.

So much hate. I'll form my own opinions tomorrow when I pick it up. Beautiful games need to be played. Still hyped.

Don't pass gaas, it is your Destiny!
Just finished far cry 4 so I'm ready for this. As long as it's as good as Ryse I'll be happy

I have not played it yet myself, but based on the reviews and your statement that I bolded is what is causing the reviews to be so low. There seems to be (again based on reviews) very little of it to be played where a good portion of the time is beautiful graphics without gameplay. While I agree, beautiful games need to be played, based on reviews there is not a lot to be played with this game and the hand-holding (again based on reviews) it seems like there is not a ton of game to be played.

I will form my own opinion when I pick up my copy. But with every review pointing to the same consistent issues it sucks that something that looks so damn good is held back by a lot of issues, which oddly is still not keeping me from buying and playing the game!! :)

Is Rapier gonna get banned after every game he likes doesn't review well? :/
Maybe he will rise victorious. Didn't he max hype Driveclub, then get his wings clipped, only to be redeemed a little down the road once the network issues were ironed out and the game started firing on all cylinders.

Perhaps The Order can turn things around. Regardless: tomorrow night it's go time for me.

thinking something is beautifully ugly is not the same as not liking it. I think Cloud Atlas is a fascinating movie to watch because analysis of it is is really amazingly fun. There's so many individual elements that are good. Like, some of the stories are better than others; some actors more competent and believable than others. I love the absurdist Timothy Cavendish plotline, but others thought that was the weakest. I love how you can watch the film thirty times and still find more nuanced ways they tried to subtly weave each of the plots together, to create this wickedly cool tapestry that rippled throughout time.

But it's just a sloppy slop mess that never quite comes together; some things come across really poorly on screen (like Tom Hanks demon conscience) and others are just offensive/bad/ugly/confusing (the asian makeup for non-asian actors). And yet still other elements are just wonderfully inspiring, thought provoking and incredibly pulled together this scene and especially this scene (heavy spoilers, and NSFW nudity from movie in second link). I mean it's difficult to imagine just how complicated it is to tie all these time periods together in a way that thematically synchronizes together at just the right moment, but these directors knew how to edit these scenes together in just the most wonderfully effective fashion. And I love how the movies gorgeous understated main theme (Cloud Atlas sextet) is everywhere, down to the tiniest band playing in the street to the hymns people sing.

It's beautifully ugly, you see. A wonderful attempt at a barely missed achievement.

That's twice now I've waited for a cutscene to end when it already has. These visuals are unreal, the indoors especially are beautiful.

The issues in the game are not things like Driveclub had which was a technical issue. The issues that the Order has (based on reviews) are not things that can be fixed. For sequel yes, 100% agree. There is nothing for them to fix it is what it is. I wont be able to play copy until after 6pm tomorrow, but still looking forward to it, regardless of the reviews.

That's 4 free spots in your top 10! :)

Persona 5, FFXV, Yakuza 5,
The Last Guardian :D
Even with a score of 95 TO would have no chance against these beasts and as Juan29.zapata said, not because the game is bad. it just released in what appears to be the best year ever.
Right now, the only thing I can wish for RaD is to sell a lot. Not only because I want the press to feel totally useless and more people to try it but also because we all need a sequel.

DC's has an excellent season pass... Shame the Order does not have additional content on the way. A lot of the reviews indicate that just when you think the story is about to get going, that section deflates. Would be nice if they could fill in the gaps with an expansion pack, but it seems that is not in the cards.

The issues with Driveclub (based on reviews) were not technical either. The only way the Order will make any "comeback" is if a majority of its mainstream target audience enjoys it. I don't think Driveclub has gotten there yet. Not sure it ever will. It has PS+ version as its final shot at salvation. Not sure about the Order. If it fails tomorrow, it is pretty much over.

Early impressions from the first chapter:

I LOVED IT! Seriously, anyone on the fence and likes cinematic games, doesn't mind cutscenes and loves to really capture the atmosphere, then go for it. Of course, this is only the first chapter but i'm so pumped. Will continue tomorrow.

P.s. Viveks i'm still waiting on your impressions ;)

This IP is going to live or die based on day 1 sales. Sony gave it a big marketing push, we'll just see how it goes from here.

I find it really odd that The Order is... essentially a technical marvel. Even if it drops the ball on everything else, scores in the range of 20% are just really, really odd.

I won't get to play it for another 6.5 hours! :D

Looks like at least 2 people are looking forward to it. No pressure, Vivek. Stay cool. You can do this.

If it's not fun... It's not fun.

I dunno. I'll find out when I play it, but that's not what I fundamentally want from reviews.

I really feel people saw/see this game as the unholy union of a David Cage game with GoW or Uncharted. Instead of being what many wanted it to be, it was focused on something that not everyone would appreciate. Still could be a terrible experience in of itself, but I guess most of us will find out tomorrow.

To me it's like they created a foundation they had for the game (material-based destruction in a hectic third person cinematic action game that could rival their mentors at Naughty Dog) and as development went along and got closer and closer to a realistic release date, they had to keep ticking off gameplay features as they continued to polish off their astonishing visual engine. They were like engine perfectionists. They really had something to prove, and that was that they sure as hell could compete with the best of Naughty Dog at making gorgeous console games. :p

Then the release date loomed and they were like 'oops so I guess the actual gameplay is basically like The Psi-Ops of the PS4'

Thanks for the post. I understand your point. Want to see the movie again now.

I'm so sad reading this. I can't say I disagree. Hoping for the best, because the game's situation is unfair.

I am a big fan of movie criticism, so maybe in order to be a fan of such beautifully ugly products you have to enjoy analyzing products at a really deep level. It's fun to really peer under the hood and try to understand what directors were going for.

I couldn't get into Speed Racer as acid-trip bloated as that film was, so Cloud Atlas made up for the lack of Wachowski Siblings in my life. ;P Of course they had other directors helping too, so this film was just like an assault of differing styles and approaches.

I'm really enjoying this game. Only just stopped a big playing stint an hour or so ago. The creepy Hospital level they showed off in earlier clips, is really atmospheric and quite scary when played out in full. I also quite enjoyed the Lycan fight, which again they glimpsed in earlier trailers. It is QTE based which some may dislike, but I think it does a good job of adding some contextual bad assery to the fight, and gives you a cool move set outside of the norm.

Oh and Agamemnon air ship level is great fun in the flesh too. The sound score over it all kinds of hype, and it offers pretty decent pacing and a mix up of gameplay. Also like the fact that you move through the ship in a believable manner, from the outer decks to the inner decks (which give you a glimpse of its massive scale) to the engine rooms, quarters, cockpit, ballroom, kitchen etc. Flows nicely. Though I'm not sure I like the insta fail stealth segments.

Overall though, very enjoyable and highly polished so far, though still linear and quite simplistic in nature, which is not necessarily a bad thing.
