Bloodborne: Impressions After 40 Hours (EDGE)

I have a bunch of concerns about this game and this isnt helping.

A lack of weapons and loot in general... I dont want another half assed next gen game that feels stripped down compared to a old gen game.

And I wasnt feeling the available weapons in the alpha so knowing thats mostly all the game has to offer is a real bummer.

At least that, dark souls II remaster is out after. I can finally try that of ot turns out Bloodborne is a dud.

Condensing down the number of weapons, but giving them a bigger moveset seems great to me, as someone who pretty much stuck to one weapon in demons souls.

Why are people still comparing Bloodbornes weapons to soul games in here? They're clearly extremely different in functionality.

I mean think about this shit: in Bloodborne you have a single weapon that functions as both an ax AND a halberd. In Demon/dark this would be two different weapon slots, and you would have to go to your item menu to equip each one, not switch on the fly (mid combo).

You simply can't compare this shit one to one. A single kirk hammer has way more functionality than a single bastard sword and a club. Period.

Also, do people not read? I have seen way too many posts in here talking about the game being beat in 40 hours.... it literally says they didn't beat the game in the same sentence that mentions the 40 hours. For fucks sakes.

Also, we know for a FACT there are more than 6 weapons in the game (Kirk Hammer, Cane, gunblade, Scythe, Saw, dagger, Ax). Edge only mentions the ones they FOUND (in a game they have not beaten and have not explored Chalice Dungeon/NG+), not that are available.

This fucking thread man, I swear... the amount of ignorance, lack of reading comprehension, and concern trolling is ridiculous.

You also thought bloodborne was a 6 hour game.

Bloodborne isnt dark souls
Bloodborne isnt demons souls

Bloodborne is Bloodborne.

Its a brand new IP following a different road than that of the souls sereis plz stop with the concern trolling. You're going to have a much better time treating bloodborne like it is. A new IP.

Sigh

If you thought FromSoftware was going soft, Hidetaka Miyazaki is about to put you brutally back in your place. And if you've been watching this generation from the sidelines, unmoved by the remaster and the rush jobs while you wait for the first true essential to arrive, now's the time. As if there was ever any doubt, Miyazaki and his team have done it all over again.

Not only greater variety in play style, but you can still tweak the properties of the weapon to your liking through the upgrade system.

I wouldn't be surprised if along with the standard infusions we get "Increased Swing Speed" or "X% More Damage to Beasts".

Ha it is annoying.

Suddenly we've gone from 6 weapons and 6 pistols found in 40 hours. To 'only six weapons found in 40 hours', ignoring the pistols. And then now some people: only 6 weapons in the total game.

He's probably mistaking Bloodborne with The Order. lel

Hey that's taking making a mistake to a whole new level. Wait until asscreed victory comes out to mistake the Victorian age inspired settings. Besides the game is turning out to be lengthy and ds2 remaster edition still looks terrible compared to the most recent footage of BB. If funkystudent is gonna argue that BB looks worse than ds2 i don't care.

The article was really positive. How did it turn this thread into a concern trolling shitfest?

Talk about selective reading...

To each his opinion I guess, to me, The Nexus gave the world a consistent safe place, that consistent safe place allowed for many many plot points that couldn't be done otherwise, like:

1) Your relationship with the NPCs, I got attached to the NPCs in Demon's more because I simply saw them more.
2) Yurt/Mephistopheles quest was probably the best "side quest" in the series.
3) Talking to the NPCs after defeating every boss gave you new dialog, which resulted in character development, which Dark Souls completely lacked.
4) Saving people & populating the Nexus gave you the "ensemble cast" feel, kinda like every character is important.
5) Maiden in Black > Your favorite character.

Exceeeeeept that Dark Souls had most of that in the Firelink Shrine. The characters all got different dialogue as more stuff happened. Some appeared, some disappeared. Some went insane. You've kind of put Demon's Souls on a pedestal here.

I legit think Destiny has ruined hype for me.

Ever since then I am super sceptical about every game and will always expect the worst.

Getting hyped for the wrong games. It was clear that Destiny was not going to live up to promises even before release. If you get hyped up for shit like that or Evolve or No Man's Sky, yeah, you're gonna be disappointed.

So far there is absolutely no indication that Bloodborne will disappoint.

I personally don't care if the game has less weapons than the Souls games.

Let me master a few customizable weapons and I'll be fine.

6 Weapons makes no sense. We've seen more than that from previews

Double Blades
Hammer/sword
Saw
Staff/whip
Axe/longaxe
Gun/rapier
Scythe/sword

That's 7 we know of. Unless that's EVERYTHING.

Exactly, we don't know the context of what they mean. Perhaps its 6 new weapons on top of what they already knew. And each weapon transforms making like a couple dozen different possibilities.

Also, moonlight greatsword

I wonder how the lore will be told if there are less weapons/equipment than in other souls games, that's my only concern, i'm okay with the rest.

Miyazaki had nothing to do with Destiny though!

As a still avid Destiny player and unabashed Miyazaki fanboy, I feel safe in assuming Bloodborne will not let me down.

Oh no, there's not 45 weapons that are useless that nobody uses.

Agreed. DS games had too many weapons that felt no different than the other. I hope with fewer weapons they actually are different from each other by a broad margin and no two weapons feel or play the same.

Saying that, 6 is kind of low number. I would like if there are 10-15 unique weapons.

Wow so you actively switched between halbard, sword, medium size sword, big ass sword, hammers, whips, daggers, maces and spears during a single playthrough. Thats pretty amazing, 10 different weapons aswell as alternate versions readily swapping in the midst of battle.

unless you mean you used one for a bit then swapped for something else.

Used them all either with different characters and builds or yeah, I did switched them up during my playthroughs. I'd use the bastard sword while having a spear on me at all times with one of my characters for exemple.

Not reading at all is more like it. Also if we consider all the footage that is public, i can count 8 regular transforming weapons not counting the guns.Edge hasn't even approached the endgame yet so it made sense for them to get a preview out which tells us they are convinced of the quality of the game to not miss out on coverage in the release month.

This this this.

I never really got into Demons Souls, loved Dark Souls but wished it was much more responsive, and am literally gagging for bloodborne.

This is still the greatest gif I've ever seen of a game. Every time I see it I get hyped. The animation, the lighting, the atmosphere. It's just perfect.

The way the weapon transformation occurs is so fucking slick.

One of the things I'm looking forward to the most is the final area. DeS and DS1 both had really cool final levels, something that was definitely missing in DS2. I want shit to get weird!

its like the game where you say something to one person in a line, that person repeats it to the next, on and on to the end. By the time you reach the end, a complex statement will sound completely different.

Some people are just creating their own narrative, obviously. This is the next big exclusive on the PS4. They have to hold onto that " no games " narrative as long as possible, so trying to make it seem like Bloodborne will be a disappointment. It's quite sad to watch, hilarious, but also sad.

So, is this the moment where Miyazaki officially jumps the shark? This seems like a really quick cash-in by From.

lol, ripped right out of Dragon's Dogma

Guess the puny PS4 hardware couldn't handle a lightning system capable of showing different times of day.

Some good trolling, thought it was serious for a sec though, this game!!!!!!

Im guessing theres a chance more of the lore will be told through NPCs. In IGNs 18min vid the player came across 3 NPCs within close proximity of each other. A total of 4 in the beginning area if you count
Gascoigne
thats alot of NPCs for the opening area. Just a guess tho

Yeah and it's like people suddenly forget the fact of how hard it can be to find certain items in souls games, doubt Bloodborne is going to be any different.
