Kojima will no longer be a Konami executive from April 1st + KojiPro is no more?

Konami just shot themselves in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about Japanese culture (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in America where you can become successful by being an asshole. If you screw someone over in Japan, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the japanese public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase MGS V for either system, nor will they purchase any of Konami's games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Konami has alienated an entire market with this move.

Konami, publicly apologize and put back 'A Hideo Kojima Game' for PS4/XB1 or you can kiss your business goodbye.
Thank you. Was waiting for this.

I am buying this game regardless, I have waited too long.

I Love Kojima but rest assured he got a substantial payout for this.

Plus a free Kojima is a better Kojima IMO.

It'll definitely be interesting to see who would pick him up, my money would be on Platinum, it's clear there is a lot of shared respect between them, but they might not be able to afford him.

I would be ok if v is his last metal gear, and he goes on to do something else with an indie studio, he's an extremely talented guy and I'd like to see what modern Kojima can do outside of metal gear now. I hope he still works on silent hills in some capacity though.

I knew this was going ot happen someday. Konami is scared that Kojima has become more powerful than them. By that, I mean that his name as a "brand", if you will, is stronger and catches people's attention more than "Konami". Konami probably thinks that if they let things be and Kojima ever decides to jump ship and make his own company, their shares would plumet. And they probably would.

That is precisely why they are changing things: to reverse this scenario.
Probably the lamest way to do it, not that they seem to have much of a choice if that's what they want given their output as of late. The Konami of the 90s and even early 2000s had for me plenty of stuff that made them a strong name with Kojima as just part of it, but they've seemingly driven out most of that staff or relegated the to either mobile, executive, or whatever positions. So, yeah, it's basically Kojima, ProEvo, and, uhh, Yu-Gi-Oh now. Even just going to their site's kind of disheartening in that it doesn't go much further than that in their games section, Lords of Shadow 2, a few re-releases, and some other stuff.

Hmm if Kojima is leaving and not gonna be involved in Metal Gear 6 therefore they don't want the costumer to know/ make it less obvious that Kojima was not involved in making ( long time fans will.know.obviously)it therefore not harming their bottom line.

I think people are overreacting as we don't know the full details of what is happening.

Kojima may not be an executive anymore but is he still the director of the studio formerly known as KojiPro? We still don't know if he has left Konami all together.

Why is everyone thinking that Silent Hills will be in trouble for?

Cause he was working on it jointly with Del Toro? Del Toro doesn't have Kojima's experience with making games. He just doesn't. P.T. had a REALLY strong direction. If Kojima's gone, Silent Hill as a franchise may be back to where it was all along.

Confused as fuck.

Holy shit, I always wondered what would happen to the KojiPro brand if Kojima decided to leave or step down from his executive position. Guess this is it.

MGSV should still be on track, but I just hope this ordeal doesn't effect their plans for Silent Hills... Or more importantly RISING 2! Now that would be devastating.

I'm sure MGS5 will be excellent... and I simply don't see myself caring all that much about non-Kojima sequels... but dammit, the world needs a new, fully developed Rising 2. That not happening would be a travesty.

I don't see proof that he's leaving; I just see clear evidence of a reorganization.

Even if he were to leave, Konami would be fine. I know most people in here only pay attention to Konami's games (and even then, mostly just their console games), but Konami has diversified very successfully. Yes, Metal Gear is now a huge portion of Konami's console gaming business, but the console gaming business is only a fraction of their overall business at this point.

Serious question: What else does Konami have a stake in other than video games?

I'm going to laugh when this all just turns out to be a name change

This is honestly the worst news I've heard in gaming all year.

If this means no more Silent Hills and Zone of the Enders and Metal Gear by Kojima, I may cry.

This is all kojimas incredible rela life arg promo campaign for mgs5. I know it.

Konami removing his name and trying to erase him is akin to what the patriots are doing to big boss in mgs5 by brainwashing frank Jaeger into being their perfect big boss.

I love mgs crackpot theories.

I bet pythonselkan is losing it right now!

I'm certainly not worried about Konami as a business - they've been quite successful with their diversification as you say - but I continue to lament the change in direction.

Looking back at Konami's history it's fair to say that they've produced multiple generations worth of classic games. Few retro games command prices like Konami's classics these days - people love these games and remember them fondly. They were one of the most influential and high quality development houses in gaming for decades.

They've basically abandoned those fans and changed course - they are a different kind of business and, as such, no longer interesting to fans of video games.

So, yeah, most of us DO only pay attention to their video games as that is the only reason we have any interest in their company. If they cease producing content such as this (they basically already have) then they're really irrelevant to video games players. They've just moved on to a different type of business, which is great for their investors and employees, but sad for those of us that used to love their output. Kojima leaving would basically remove the only interesting thing they had left for us.
