Konami seeking new main staff members for development of new Metal Gear series

This is a nightmare Wtf is going on? I have no faith in the future of mgs with Konami in full control

Just made me think, what about TPP post release? Does this mean there won't be patches for potential bugs/online exploits by KojiPro?

These last few days have been crazy

With the impending departure of Hideo Kojima and other senior KojiPro employees, Konami have obviously done a business needs analysis and determined that they have a chronic shortage of staff with the crucial Know What The Fuck They're Doing skill.

I would say we should boycott TPP, but lets be real, no one is going to, myself included.

Fuck this whole situation. ohnSad

I have a question.
Everybody talks about silent Hills, but Konami uses the Fox engine for pes since pes 2014.
What will happen after the departure of Kojima production?
Can Konami still uses this engine?

The Fox Engine is Konami's property so they can do whatever they choose with it.

I'd still buy new Metal Gear games if they look good. I just hope they don't ever go completely serious and lose that quirky nature running through them all. Please don't go all Splinter Cell on me Konami.

It most assuredly won't be the same.

However...what if...what if it's better?

what if it were more astonishingly awesome than a kojima metal gear? then i'd say the new developers were wasting their incredible talent working within the framework of someone else's creation...

unfortunately, since i won't be playing it, i'll never know :) ...

I guess you are trying to prove a point, but this reads extremely closed minded to me.

I'm a bit confused by all of this stuff, but are Konami going to reboot the series or something? Surely they wouldn't bastardise Kojima's work further?

Konami Latinamerica tweet.

"Some see a crisis, others see/find an oportunity. We know which one is Big Boss."

Are we absolutely sure this isn't trolling by Kojima and Konami? This seems disrespectful a bit, but maybe I'm just taking it the wrong way. Makes me feel like they are trolling for exposure.

This is like a "boy who cried wolf" situation, with someone saying to you that you and your entire family are going to die in 2 seconds - and then you don't. Nothing happens.

Would you think that was funny? Would you want to hear that again? Would you say to yourself "Oh, I'm just being trolled"? Would you trust anything they said after that or even think to forgive then for saying it in the first place? Most importantly - would you buy anything from them?

No, this is not a joke or a troll. Something sinister is afoot.

You remember when Ubisoft pulled their games from Steam and everyone thought they were going Origin route? And you know what hapepend next.

What if the story is crap, but the stealth gameplay is great? I do realise that Kojima is a craftsman of the level design as well, but it's not like that isn't studyable.

Konami own everything. If Kojima leaves, he takes with him nothing. And if he wanted to use any of his old franchises or the FOX Engine, he'd need to license them from Konami.

Jeez. Konami really think to survive easily to the Kojima departure. I don't know what to say but in a bunch of years will seem them in the same conditions of capcom today, to be really optimistic.

The melodrama is real in this thread.
"How can we tell Mr. Kojoma san we think he speshul?"
Holy shit guys. Just wait and see what happens.

Are we certain that Kojima did not want to leave Konami?? I've seen rumours reported by people claiming there's distrust between Kojima Productions and Konami as a whole but, Kojima has wanted to stop making MGS games for like a decade now and maybe this was his decision. Maybe not, I have not kept up to date on every bit of news but maybe this is down to Kojima and not Konami.

Hard to imagine Metal Gear without Kojima.
Then again he has said he wants to stop making MGS for years already, but that didn't go too well with Rising either. So now this.
The recent Mega64 with Sakaguchi hacking at his keyboard comes to mind. :p

Still kinda want the WW2 game with The Boss however..

Do we 100% know Kojima is leaving, KONAMI said he'll help with future releases
Perhaps this will force his hand, Kojima said he'll not make another but he might intervene if it's out of his hands and that's probably why Konami has took charge knowing Kojima wouldn't resist stepping in and another MGS wouldn't be made if Kojima had control?
Who knows.

Lol.

Two years from now, Kojima pays a visit to Konami to see how MGS6 is going.

Rising was in a whole different genre gameplay-wise so they can't be compared in that way, but did you really think the story and art were that bad? I realize the politics and morality of it are a little more exoteric and black-and-white, but there's a strong argument to be made that the characterization at play is more developed than MGS4 and Peace Walker's were.

If Rising 2 expands the stealth systems and makes ghost runs and pacifist runs (excluding bosses) fully possible, I feel it really could be the heir to the MGS legacy. Finding a writer that has a global (rather than america-centric, heavily news-influenced) understanding of war and politics would help a lot, too.

Karma's a bitch, huh ?

You dump Hayter and later on Konami dump you lol.

Actually, this could cast new light on Hayter's departure. The first signs of Hayter not returning to his role were when we never got the Snake Voice Sword dlc in Rising IIRC, and the whole thing felt unnatural. What if it wasn't actually Kojima's choice to hire David after all? What if his hands were tied because of corporate shenanigans? Considering that we now know Konami is the kind of company to force their whole staff into silence like they are now, or to gut their staff before MGSV is even out the door, it almost seems like there's nothing they wouldn't do.

Not even close to being comparable. Its ridiculous that people keep bringing this up.
It is, but the karma if Konami brings Hayter back.... Damn.
I still can't imagine a MG without Kojima though.

It would be comparable if:

-Kojima "fired" Hayter while he was still working on Peace Walker, but still kept him on until he was finished voicing.

-Put restrictions on Hayter to keep him from talking to the press or posting on twitter/social media.

-Actively removed Hayter's name from promotional material of current and past work.

On the other hand, if Konami wasn't doing any of these things to Kojima and simply was arranging to lay him and some other employees off at the end of development, I think most of us would actually be happy that Kojima would finally have a chance to work on something besides Metal Gear. Hell, Hayter is on more of a role creatively now than he's been in awhile, and that's hopefully how things will be for Kojima in a year or two.
