GTA V PC Performance Thread

it's running beautifully at 1080p and a locked 60 with everything on high except shadows on normal. no msaa.

Feels very optimized. Running it at 1440p, Everything High and with FXAA.

60 fps with zero drops. Will probably bump a couple of things up until I see some fps drops.

this is strange, as my 980 is definitely having some issues at the same settings as you... :/

[rig otherwise the same as yours]

I am so new to this... how do I pull up the FPS to check it while the game is playing?

It seems sooooooo much smoother than the PS4 version. Aiming with the controller feels like a true FPS now, with zero input lag. I am in love. Curious to see if I am staying at 60fps even though it feels like I am.

EVGA Prevision X16 was giving me 130 FPS during the opening scene. Switched to FRAPS and suddenly it says 60 FPS.

So I guess I can't really trust Precision in this game....

As an update to my previous post, I was getting dips into the low 40's in the countryside with every in-game option max'd except MSAA. I turned "Grass" to "Very High" instead of ultra and now I get a solid 60fps out in the countryside as well. Just thought I'd pass this along.

Kept immediately crashing. I only had 40 gigs in my folder despite the launcher saying I had 60 gigs + patches. Deleting everything, and restarting. Bummed, always hang out with my friends and play Wii U on Mondays, and I've spend the last three hours growling at bars. Really hoping that it works tomorrow. Big thumbs down on my first experience with Rockstar Social Club.

With every setting (aside from the experimental sliders) set as high as I can, I'm getting an almost perfect 30fps in the benchmark. This is completely stock so I'm going to see how much overclocking both the CPU and GPU improves things.

Edit: Just occurred to me that I never posted my resolution, egad! 1440p.

Is anyone with my rig?

Is any possibility to see the game running on solid 60fps with everything on ultra without MSAA or other pointless "resource-sucking" options?

GTA's running poorly for me, constantly going below 40 on below default settings. What settings tax the CPU a lot?

GTX 970
i5-3570k
12 gb of ram.

Very High shadows really hurt the 970 at points in the game, dipping from 60 to 45/50. Left it on High.
I can't really notice the extended shadows on my TV with very high shadows anyway.

Eh, kinda disappointed. Locked 60 is not possible on a 970 without ruining the IQ. And even maxed out @ 30 it does not look that much better than the PS4 version. Increased density is pretty cool though.

Settings on max everything

Nearly died at the first part of the benchmark, it started off looking like early GTA: San Andreas on pc (or extremely low graphic settings on GTA IV – trying to paint an accurate picture). Once it kicked in the game looked glorious (I have everything maxed out 3154mb used according to the settings screen). I'm actually going to turn off Tessalation and Ambient Occulation – I have a bad track record with them turned on in pc games (eg: Arkham Asylum and Tomb Raider) – ends up giving me motion sickness and really bloodshot eyes. I can live without the extra "sexyness" of the graphics. I'm satisfied with the extreme bump up in fps compared to the 360 version (the low fps made driving really tedious).

I'm going to have to run a frame rate limiter as well, the combination of my video card, power supply and motherboard gives out a coil whine when games have an excessively large FPS rating (thus I use RTSS to limit the FPS in most games to 50-60fps).

All was well, I think playing with the settings in the game can make it screw up in a way, I adjusted a few things and went back to the game play and it wouldn't stop stuttering :-/. I thought it was MSAA related (once I turned it off, the stutter was gone), but it came back and gradually got worse to the point where my game was moving at what felt like 1FPS.

Really annoying, wish I knew what the solution was haha.

Man, I can even run 2x MSAA on this setup without dips into the 30's

4690K
4GB 770
8GB RAM

Looks great and runs great without it, but I still want dat MSAA!

I have all settings on High, no MSAA, Sharp Shadow, and DoF off and maintain above 50fps at all times. I'm happy with the performance. I imagine I'll get a slight gain once I update my driver

Well, I managed to create a new character and skip the tutorial because it kept breaking. Though now I'm in the middle of a match, made the mistake of trying to pause in the middle of a deathmatch and I ended up being stuck in the loading screen until someone killed me. The loading times in Online seem bizarre sometimes, really.

Anyone running a 2GB 760? I'm going to upgrade to the 900 series in the upcoming months, I just want to know if it's worth it with an older card like this. i5-4670 @ 3.40 and 8 gigs of RAM at the moment, as well. If so, what kind of performance should I expect?

I have to sleep now, but will post my Titan X (single gpu, 3570k@4.6GHz, 8 gig ram, win7) settings for people without gsync who want to play with mouse+keyboard and usually hit min 60 fps while getting good graphics (benchmark is slightly lower than this at times, but gameplay is usually 60 fps locked):

DirectX 11
Fullscreen
1920x1080
119Hz (fps locked at 60fps in nvidia inspector)

FXAA off
MSAA x4 (mfaa activated in nvidia inspector)
NVIDIA TXAA off
Vsync off
Pause Game On Focus Loss On (have no idea what this does though ...)

Population Density max
Population Variety max
Distance Scaling max

Texture Quality very high
Shader Quality very high
Shadow Quality very high
Reflection Quality very high
Reflection MSAA x4
Water Quality very high
Particles Quality very high
Grass Quality very high
Soft Shadows softest

Post FX ultra
Motion Blur Strength min
In-Game Depth of Field Effects on
Anisotropic Filtering x16
Ambient Occlusion high
Tesselation very high

Long shadows on
High Resolution Shadows on
High Detail Streaming While Flying on
Extended Distance Scaling max
Extended Shadows Distance max

I disabled strobing on my 120Hz when running the game. With a 60Hz screen I would run Borderless Windowed.

Edit: vram usage is 3652 mb by the way

So are all of you sporting 60 fps just playing the intro? As soon as I get in the city my 32 gigs of ram intel 5820k 6 core with dual 290x goes from 60 to single digits...

I think minimizing the game and coming back is causing most of the stuttering I'm getting. It got pretty bad so I closed the game and reopened it and it's running smooth as hell.

I'm pretty much in the same boat here. Have a 680 2GB.

Using the optimal settings right now through Geforce Experience.

Is there a part of the map that's known to drop framerates?

Like in GTA4, there was an area like Times Square that was more demanding than most other parts of the map, and I used to use it to test graphic settings/framerates.

No bald cap? Lies!
Anyone else have ERR_FIL_PACK3 and find a way to fix that without resorting to redownlaoding the entire game?

That's probably it for me as well I'm alt-tabbing giving some impressions as I play. The stuttering I am experiencing is purely in car, once I am out of the car it's fine.

You can probably go to either the countryside with lots of vegetation/foliage, or City area where traffic are abundant.

The hills that look down at the cities, driving through the dirt roads around these hills hit the fps hard.

This game is so fucking stupid.

Finally managed to finish the first driving mission without a crash. Got to the part where you park your car in the garage. So I decided to play with a few settings, and teh game told me to restart. So I did.

Now I have to play that whole god damned mission again because the shit didn't save.
